In this study, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the behavior of fiber reinforced concrete beam according to GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer)sheets and based on previous specimens and directly compare the fiber reinforcing effect. As a result, all specimens, regardless of the cross section shape, had an increase in torsional capacity and similar behavior compared to previous study.

The purpose of this study is to understand the structural performance of the specimens beam by changing the depth and width of the U-shaped composite beam. To this end, experimental specimens by changing depth and width as compared with a reference specimen were prepared and tested. As a result of this study, growth of the depth has great effect on the structural performance while a width increase has no significant effect on the structural performance of composite beam.

This study investigates whether the crack torsional moment equation of the concrete structure criterion can be applied even when the criterion for the minimum torsional reinforcement amount and spacing is not satisfied. As a result of the experiment, it was found that when the interval of the closed stirrup is wide, it does not satisfy the crack torsion moment induced by the thin-wall theory. However, when the strength reduction factor of 0.75 is applied, the torsional moment criterion is satisfied. Therefore, it is considered that the torsional moment can be considered even if the criterion for the minimum rebar spacing is not satisfied.

In this study, flexural test of the 2-span arch deck specimen was conducted. In load-displacement test , a load carrying capacity of the specimen was approximately 2.4 times higher than the design ultimate load. Strain of Rebars was structurally stable until the maximum load was reached. The overall results showed that the specimens had excellent structural performance due to the structural advantages of the arch shape. Overall, the precasted arch deck is expected to be useful for long span PSC girder bridges as wide span decks..

For PHC pile, mechanical connection joints can be essential to connect PHC piles over 15m in length for deep foundation. This study was examined flexural capacity of PHC pile connected with high-performance connection device. To examine flexural capacity of PHC pile, two PHC piles with 5m length were connected using ring-type connecting plate developed recently. Its connection capacity and failure mode were evaluated through four-point flexure test.

In this study, structural tests were performed for the para-aramid fiber-reinforced RC beams using Recycled Coarse Aggregates (RCA) according to the main parameters which are RCA replacement ratio (0 and 30%) and para-aramid fiber volume fraction (0, 0.75 and 1.0%). Experimental results show that by reinforcing para-aramid fibers, compared with the natural coarse aggregate, the RCA, which exhibited low structural performance, improved load carrying capacity and ductility.

In this study, it evaluate the hysteretic behavior of I type strut steel damper with newly designed locking behavior test system based on the results of previous research. The maximum deformation was reached at a horizontal load of 270 kN and a displacement of 25 mm, and the experiment was terminated. The damper installed on the left and right of the panel was also failed. In the future, a performance experiment is being conducted using the strut aspect ratio as a variable.

In this study, nonlinear time history analysis was performed using OpenSEES, a general structural analysis program, after selecting the target bridges. The degree of damage was classified by the damage status definition proposed by Alkex(2008). The seismic evaluation of the target bridges was carried out through the analysis results.

This paper intends to analyze the behavior characteristics of steel storage racks according to the constraints conditions by external loads such as seismic loads. In order to achieve these goals, the steel storage racks generally used in Korea were selected as target structures and shaking table tests were conducted. In order to confirm the behavior according to the constraints conditions, the foundation of the steel storage racks was constructed with three conditions (1 bolt, 4 bolts, fixed) and the experiment was carried out. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained through the experiment, it was confirmed that additional damper installation is needed rather than changing the condition of the bottom plate in order to secure the safety of the steel storage racks.

Deterministic seismic analysis of cabinet facility does not reflect the real behavior of the system with the uncertainties of material parameters. This paper investigates the effects of uncertain properties in the context of random field theory for the stochastic dynamic response of cabinet. The influences of different decomposition methods (i.e. Cholesky, Eigen, and modified Cholesky) with various correlation lengths of the spatial material distribution are explored. The responses are compared to the case where no variation is applied in the properties of the model.

An approach is presented for evaluating the vulnerability of electric cabinet in nuclear power plants. The method is based on the lognormal approach, including the maximum likelihood estimation and linear regression to establish the fragility curves. These procedures are applied for a cabinet considering various boundary conditions, which are expressed by restrained and anchored models at the base. The cabinet models have been built and verified by using the system identification technique. The results show that the fragility curves obtained for the anchored model are found to be closer to each other, compared to the fragility curves for the restrained model.

The earthquake risk prediction for dam structure has been considered as an important analysis. The dam has to interact with water in its lifetime, which maybe induces the chemo-mechanical phenomenon on the aging concrete and damage the capacity of the structure. The main aim of this research is to suggest a procedure to predict the operant condition of the dam based on Cumulative Absolute Velocity (CAV) values after some decades. CAV is a method ordinarily used in Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) fields, but in case of a concrete gravity dam, it will be the new addition along with the aging effect of concrete material.

All over the world, concrete gravity dams have to withstand lots of environmental hazards and time-varying external loading during an earthquake. Therefore, the risk assessment of this structure with time may become an important study for the dam structure, which is related to the chemo-mechanical effect on the aging concrete. The focusing point of this study is to propose an earthquake assessment procedure to determine the failure probability with time of any concrete gravity dam for the future if we consider the material deterioration. This material decay is mainly associated with the modulus of elasticity of the concrete and it is explained briefly in the manuscript.

In thermal power plant, steam is made by boiler. As it rotates turbine, electric power is generated. Thermal power plant has a high-rise structure that has a boiler and other equipment. Thermal expansion of the boiler is large because combustion temperature is high. The boiler vibrates easily because it is suspended from the top of the support structure in order not to restrict deformation by thermal expansion. Thus, the boiler structure supported by the hanger is very vulnerable to earthquakes. In this study, numerical analysis was carried out in order to investigate behavior of the boiler structure in the thermal power plant under earthquakes.

Friction dampers are categorized as displacement-dependent energy dissipation devices, because their damper force is independent from frequency and velocity. They have found large practical application in seismic retrofitting of existing structures due to their low cost and simple installation. A typical friction damper consists of series of steel plates tighten together with high durability steel bolts in order to achieve more reliable friction through the interfaces. This study developed a multi-friction damper by laminating friction materials. In order to verify the performance of the multi-friction dampers, experimental tests were performed.

Recently many investigations have been conducted to evaluate and analyze the seismic response of structures equipped different types of damper. Viscous dampers are known as effective energy dissipation devices improving structural response to earthquakes. The damping force developed by the viscous damper depends on internal structural system and the physical properties of the fluid used in the device. This study has developed a viscous damper for vibration and seismic control of structures. In order to verify the performance of a viscous damper, experimental tests were performed.

Coal-fired thermal power generation was a very important power source in Korea. Therefore improvement of seismic reliability of the coal-fired thermal power plants is required, because occurrence of very large earthquakes is expected in Korea. Boilers of coal-fired power plants are usually suspended from the upper end of support structures in order to allow thermal expansion of the boilers, so boilers easily sway during earthquakes. In order to suppress the vibration, stoppers made of steel are generally installed between boilers and their support structures. Although stoppers made of steel are effective for vibration suppression, further countermeasure for earthquakes having long duration and many after shocks is required. This study has developed a hybrid damper for vibration and seismic control of coal-fired power plant boiler. The hybrid damper consists of an oil damper and a friction damper connected in series.

Thermal power generation was a very important power source in Korea. Therefore improvement of seismic reliability of the thermal power plants is required, because occurrence of very large earthquakes is expected in Korea. Especially, after the earthquake in Gyeong-ju and Po-hang, seismic waves are recognized as a new problem in Korea. In this study, numerical analysis was carried out in order to investigate behavior of the boiler structure in the thermal power plant under earthquakes. The effect of the developed hybrid damper is analytically confirmed.

In this study the frame based-FE model of road facility-supporting structures was created and analyzed to investigate the distributions of seismic forces according to the types of the supporting structures. From the results of response spectrum analysis, the first to third natural periods of most road facility supporting structures are ranged around an effective acceleration response zone in the design response spectrum and the base shear force and base moment increase as the size of the structures increases.

In this study, for the assesment of the seismic performance of a riser pipe with groove joints, in-plane cyclic loading tests were conducted using the pipe installation method suggested by NFPA13 and the allowable side sway of KBC. In addition, elbow and tee, which are weak parts of piping system, were separated and component test was performed under the same conditions.
