        South Korea has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. However, summers are extremely hot and humid, which negatively affects industrial animal production. Hanwoo are native cattle that have traditionally been raised in the natural environment of Korea. The present study investigated the effects of birth and lactation season on the birth and weaning weights of Hanwoo calves. Data were collected from 100 local breeding farms between 2016 and 2021. A total of 56,970 (males, 29,530; females, 27,440) Hanwoo calves were classified according to sex or birth and weaning season (March–May, spring; June–August, summer; September– November, fall; and December–February, winter). The birth weight of Hanwoo calves differed according to the birth season. As such, birth weight of the summer-born calves was the lowest. Additionally, the 90-day weaning weight was positively correlated with birth weight. Interestingly, however, the 90-day weaning weight was not related to the birth season but was related to the 2-month seasonal effect during the lactation period. Furthermore, the 90-day weaning weight was the lowest during the summer lactation period. In the beef cattle industry, daily weight gain is an important economic characteristic related to feed efficiency and growth. Our findings will contribute the management of Hanwoo cattle and analysis of changes in economic characteristics due to high temperatures.

        Current studies have revealed the capacity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in term of immunomodulatory properties, and this distinct potential is downgraded according to the disease duration of patients-derived MSCs. In order to enhance the immunomodulatory and anti-tumorigenic properties of the rheumatoid arthritis (RA) joints-derived MSCs, we aggregate synovial fluid-derived MSCs from RA joints (RA-hMSCs) into 3D-spheroids by the use of hanging drop culture method. Cells were isolated from synovial fluids of RA joints with longstanding active status over 13 years. For aggregation of RA-hMSCs into 3D-spheroids, cells were plated in hanging drops in 30 μL of advanced DMEM (ADMEM) containing 25,000-30,000 cells/ drop and cultured for 48 h. To analyze the comparative immunomodulatory effects of 3D-spheroid and 2D monolayer cultured RA-hMSCs and then cells were cultured in ADMEM supplemented with 20% of synovial fluids of RA patients for 48 h and were evaluated by qRT-PCR for their expression of mRNA levels of inflammatory and antiinflammatory markers. Cellular aggregation of RA-hMSCs was observed and cells were aggregate into a single sphere. Following treatment of RA patient’s synovial fluids into the RA-hMSCs, spheroids formed RA-hMSCs showed significantly (p < 0.05) higher expression of TNFα stimulated gene/protein 6 (TSG-6) than the monolayer cultured RAhMSCs. Therefore, the 3D-spheroid culture methods of RA-hMSCs were more effective than 2D monolayer cultures in suppressing inflammatory response treated with 20% of RA-synovial fluids by expression of TNFα (TSG-6) according to the immune response and enhanced secretion of inflammatory factors.

        Pseudo-pheochromocytoma is defined as an adrenal tumor that has the typical characteristics of pheochromocytoma likely hypertension but is histopathologically diagnosed to other types of adrenal tumors. 11-year-old, castrated male Maltese presented for a left adrenal mass with hypertension. According to clinical signs and radiological features, a temporary diagnosis was made of pheochromocytoma. The adrenalectomy was performed and the histopathological examination of the resected adrenal gland was diagnosed as cortical adenocarcinoma. This report describes the case of pseudo-pheochromocytoma in a dog and implies the salience that even if pheochromocytoma is diagnosed based on all test results, pseudo-pheochromocytoma should not be excluded.

        This study aimed to determine if animal-assisted therapy could enhance language and social interactions in autistic children. It is a single case study of a 6.7-year-old child diagnosed with second-rate autism disorder with a program of twelve sessions in total, a session per week, and fifty minutes per session. The program was constructed to increase the frequency of using words and to improve interpersonal relationships through contact with peers or strangers. To do this, SCAR and E-CLAC scales went through a pretest and posttest and the changes in main behaviors observed during the twelves sessions were analyzed, obtaining the following results: First, the animal-assisted therapy program allowed the autistic child to use daily words about twice more frequently than usual. Second, the animal-assisted therapy program was effective in allowing the autistic child to improve social interactions with peers or strangers around the dog. Therefore, the animal-assisted therapy program was effective in helping the autistic child enhance language and social interactions.

        본 연구는 장미 ‘Bubble Gum’의 절화수명을 연장시키기 위하여 미산성 차아염소산수(Slightly acidic hypochlorous water, HOCl, pH 6.26)의 처리효과와 절화수명 연장제로써 의 가능성을 구명하고자 수행되었다. 침지처리는 30μL・L-1의 미산성 차아염소산수를 0분, 0.5분, 1분, 3분, 5분간 침지처 리 후 수돗물(Tap water, control)에 꽂아 두었다. 대조구의 절화수명은 8.7일인데 비해 5분 침치처리 시 10.8일로 대조 구보다 2.1일 수명을 연장시켰다. 상대생체중은 모든 처리구 에서 2일까지 증가하였고, 수분흡수율은 모든 처리구에서 6일 까지 증가하다가 감소하는 추세를 보였다. 화색 변화율인 ΔE 값은 3분(5.25), 5분(6.48), 30초(6.65), 1분(6.79) 침지처리 에서 대조구보다 낮았으며, 상대 화폭 증가율은 5분 침지 처 리구가 145%로 화폭의 증가율이 가장 컸고, 엽록소함량은 처 리 간 차이가 없었다. 결론적으로 절화장미 ‘Bubble Gum’의 절화수명은 미산성 차아염소산수의 5분 침지 처리가 효과적 으로 연장시켰다.

        Wild birds, especially aquatic birds, are the natural reservoir of avian influenza virus (AIV), and many kinds of water body can be contaminated with feces of these birds. Seasonally, AIVs can be dissolved in the environmental water from the feces of the infected birds, and this water can be a target for viral detection and identification. In this study, we employed and tested three different filters for concentrating AIV, and it was shown that high concentration factor in terms of viral density could be achieved with viral samples diluted with natural water. Wild bird fecal samples containing low pathogenicity H5 AIVs were successfully concentrated with the adsorption and elution method using mixed cellulose esters membrane; the recovery rate of virus was 35.5 % and the concentration factor was about 50 on average. For the larger volume of water sample, we proved that an inline disposable filter with high surface area, 300 cm2, has a comparable concentration factor to the adsorption and elution method and the filter could be used in the field conveniently by being plugged into peristaltic pump. These validated methods for water sampling may be used as a supplementary for virological surveillance on wild migratory birds or during the epidemiological investigation on the environment near affected premises by AIV.

        Influenza A viruses (IAVs) are members of the family Orthomyxoviridae and genus Orthomyxovirus. Avian and mammalian species are the host of IAVs, which includes humans and dogs. Canine influenza virus (CIV) is an emerging pathogen that causes severe and acute respiratory diseases in dogs. This study monitored the antigen and antibody against CIV in dogs in the Republic of Korea (ROK) from 2016 to 2021. One thousand and seventy-two nasal swabs and 1,545 blood samples were collected from animal hospitals and animal shelters. Five nasal swabs in 2017 and seven in 2018 from stray dogs were positive for CIV according to RT-PCR. The prevalence of H3N2 CIV ranged from 9.5% to 24.8%, according to the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) assay. On the other hand, none of the serum samples from 2018 to 2021 showed seropositivity against the avian H5, H7, and H9 viruses. The HI titers for H3N2 ranged from 16 to 512. The distribution of HI titer 16–32 was 57.6% in seropositive samples. The pet dogs were vaccinated against CIV, but the stray and military dogs were unvaccinated. In 2017 and 2018, the seroprevalence of CIV in stray dogs was higher than in the other years, and viral RNA was detected in nasal swabs. It may mean previous exposure of stray dogs to CIV. With the increasing number of pet dogs and the close contact between humans and dogs, canines could serve as an intermediate host for transmitting IAVs to humans. Therefore, continuous surveillance of CIV is needed for public health and the potential emergence of novel zoonotic viruses.

        This study aimed to examine the cause and consequence of emotional labor strategies based on the emotional labor framework. To investigate the boundary condition of the current research model, the study proposed that job autonomy would moderate the effects of emotional labor on employees' well-being. To achieve the purpose of the study, it was first tested whether neuroticism and extroversion of employees predicted the focal outcomes (i.e., burnout and work engagement) via distinct emotional labor strategies. Second, the moderation effects of job autonomy were tested for each emotional labor strategy in predicting the focal outcomes. Third, the conditional indirect effects of job autonomy on the mediation process were examined. The results revealed that surface acting partially mediated the relationship between neuroticism and burnout, whereas deep acting fully mediated the relationship between extraversion and work engagement. Regarding the moderating effects of job autonomy, it significantly moderated the relationship between surface acting and burnout and between deep acting and work engagement. In addition, from the moderated mediation effects, the conditional indirect effects of job autonomy were significant. Finally, theoretical and practical implications are discussed and limitations and future research directions were suggested.

        Organisms constituting a large proportion of marine ecosystems, ranging from bacteria to fish, exhibit fluorescence and bioluminescence. A variety of marine organisms utilize these biochemically generated light sources for feeding, reproduction, communication, and defense. Since the discovery of green fluorescent protein and the luciferin-luciferase system more than a century ago, numerous studies have been conducted to characterize their function and regulatory mechanism. The unique properties of fluorescent and bioluminescent proteins offer great potential for their use in a broad range of applications. This short review briefly describes the functions and characteristics of fluorescent and bioluminescent proteins, in addition to summarizing the recent status of their applications.

        Countries in the Chinese character cultural sphere share the Chinese Zodiac that assigns twelve animals to each year a person is born based on the order of arrival, so-called Tti. The twelve animals reflect the psychological characteristics of human life and are regarded as more special than other animals. Thus, the animals are used in idiomatic expressions as a vehicle to more properly describe human feelings and thought. This study therefore analyzed the semantic features of the twelve animals to explore the Chinese perception about the animals. The study result can be summarized as below: The representative semantic features of the twelve animals are as follows: [Villain], [Thief], [Misdeed], [Harmful], and [Heinous] for Rat; [Big] for Ox; [Villain], [Ferocious], [Cruel], [Heinous], [Foe], [Causing Fear], [Causing Risk], [Harmful], [Aggressor], and [Predator] for Tiger; [Agile] and [Quick] for Rabbit; [Emperor], [King], [High Status], [Authority], and [General] for Dragon; [Villain], [Aggressor], [Greedy], [Cunning], [Heinous], and [Vicious] for Snake; [War] and [Military] for Horse; [Weak], [Sacrifice], and [Dangerous Situation] for Sheep; [Nominal] for Monkey; [Small], [Slight], [Trifling], and [Useless] for Rooster; [Shabby], [Vulgar], [Bad], and [Foolish] for Dog; and [Shabby], [Vulgar], and [Wicked] for Pig. The negative semantic features were dominant in all animals except the dragon, which is consistent with a tendency that the animals are generally used to emphasize the negative aspects of a person. The semantic features of the animals are also presented in various domains of action, psychology, personality, morality, size, episode, speed, status, position, geographical features, attitude, shape, living, means, situation, etc.

        목적: 국민건강영양조사 제7기(2016~2018) 원시자료를 이용하여 관절성 질환이 안질환에 영향을 미칠 수 있는지 와 그 연관성 정도를 파악하고자 하였다. 방법: 국민건강영양조사 제7기(2016~2018) 자료 중 관절성 질환과 안과 질환 진단여부에 응답한 만 50세 이상 의 성인 총 3,243명을 대상으로 두 질병간의 연관성을 분석하였으며, p<0.050인 경우 유의한 것으로 판단하였다. 결과 : 백내장, 녹내장, 황반변성의 주요 3대 안과 질환은 관절염 및 골관절염과 유의한 관련성이 있었다. 모든 변수를 보정한 상태에서 관절염은 1.296배(95% CI: 1.054~1.594) 정도 백내장의 위험을 증가시키는 것으로 나 타났으며, 황반변성은 2.413배(95% CI: 1.172~4.968) 위험을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 골관절염은 2.758배(95% CI: 1.342~5.668) 황반변성의 위험을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 관절염과 골관절염은 녹내장에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 : 관절염과 골관절염은 황반변성의 위험을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났고, 관절염은 백내장에도 영향을 미 치는 것으로 나타났다.

        목적: 20~70대 성인을 대상으로 각막굴절력이 굴절이상과 동공크기에 미치는 영향에 대해서 확인하고자 하였다. 방법 : 안과질환과 각막굴절교정술 경험이 없는 근시안 그룹(831안, 34.55±13.17세, -2.28±1.37 D), 원시 안 그룹(369안, 47.20±12.24세, +1.22±0.72 D)이 본 연구에 참여하였으며, I-Profilerplus를 사용하여 대상안 의 각막굴절력과 동공크기 및 원점굴절도를 측정해 분석하였다. 결과 : 각막굴절력은 근시안 그룹이 원시안 그룹 보다 약 0.35 D 정도 유의하게 컸으며, 근시안과 원시안 및 전체 굴절이상 그룹에서 원점굴절도가 마이너스(-) 방향으로 높을수록 유의하게 증가하였다(p<0.050). 동공크기 는 근시안 그룹이 원시안 그룹에 비하여 약 0.40 mm 정도 유의하게 컸고 근시안과 원시안 및 전체 굴절이상 그 룹 모두에서 원점굴절도가 마이너스(-) 방향으로 높을수록 동공크기가 컸으며(p<0.050), 근시안과 원시안 그룹을 포함하는 전체 굴절이상 그룹에서 각막굴절력이 플러스(+) 방향으로 클수록 동공크기는 유의하게 증가하였다 (p<0.050). 결론 : 각막굴절력은 굴절이상과 동공크기 측정값에 영향을 주는 것을 확인하였으며, 이 연구 결과는 굴절이상 종류에 따른 동공크기 차이를 이해하는데 도움이 되는 기초자료가 될 것으로 생각한다.

        The injection molding process is a process in which thermoplastic resin is heated and made into a fluid state, injected under pressure into the cavity of a mold, and then cooled in the mold to produce a product identical to the shape of the cavity of the mold. It is a process that enables mass production and complex shapes, and various factors such as resin temperature, mold temperature, injection speed, and pressure affect product quality. In the data collected at the manufacturing site, there is a lot of data related to good products, but there is little data related to defective products, resulting in serious data imbalance. In order to efficiently solve this data imbalance, undersampling, oversampling, and composite sampling are usally applied. In this study, oversampling techniques such as random oversampling (ROS), minority class oversampling (SMOTE), ADASYN(Adaptive Synthetic Sampling), etc., which amplify data of the minority class by the majority class, and complex sampling using both undersampling and oversampling, are applied. For composite sampling, SMOTE+ENN and SMOTE+Tomek were used. Artificial neural network techniques is used to predict product quality. Especially, MLP and RNN are applied as artificial neural network techniques, and optimization of various parameters for MLP and RNN is required. In this study, we proposed an SA technique that optimizes the choice of the sampling method, the ratio of minority classes for sampling method, the batch size and the number of hidden layer units for parameters of MLP and RNN. The existing sampling methods and the proposed SA method were compared using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 Score to prove the superiority of the proposed method.

        The army is concerned about the decrease in enlistment resources due to the low birth rate and the weakening of military combat power due to the shortening of the military service period. Now, the military's quantitative growth is no longer limited and it is a time for qualitative growth. To this end, the Army has been applying the Israeli learning method Havruta to recruit training to improve the quality of training since 2019. After applying Havruta, several scholars have studied the effect of recruit training applying Havruta. As a result, it was verified that recruit training applying Havruta improves the inner motive, creativity, and military service value of trainees. This study investigated how trainees' inner motive, creativity, and military service value affect their satisfaction and achievement. In addition, it was studied whether the effect of recruit training applied with Havruta on achievement differs according to the educational background (high school graduate or higher) and military family (professional soldiers within 4th degree) of the trainees. To this end, a survey was conducted on 472 recruits, and the structural relationship between each variable and the moderating effect were analyzed using the structural equation model. As a result of the study, military service value did not affect training satisfaction. Also, there was a difference in the effect of creativity on training satisfaction according to the educational background of new recruits, and there was a difference in the effect of military service value on training satisfaction and training achievement according to military family members. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the improvement of the army's recruit training development plan and effective training system.

        The biological efficiencies of promising Pleurotus spp. were evaluated. Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus tuberregium,and Pleurotus sajor-cajuwere investigated at temperatures of 22oC, 20oC, and 18oC to determine their ability to adapt to temperatures that are likely to be found in subtropical regions. The experiment was conducted using a substrate comprising Popular sawdust 60% + cotton seed 20% + beet pulp 20% under a relative humidity of 65%. The results indicated that there were significant differences in terms of biological efficiency between the species: P. tuber regium 128.84% at 22oC, P. ostreatus 108.41% at 22oC, and P. sajor-caju is 80% at 20oC. The common temperatures at which all species showed the highest biological efficiencies were 22oC and 20oC. Therefore, the production of the evaluated species was equal to or surpassed biological efficiencies reported in tropical environments, thereby demonstrating a potential opportunity to adapt to tropical environments without compromising quality standards.
