Voltammetry has shown promise as a method to estimate the concentrations of actinides in the molten LiCl-KCl used as an electrolyte in spent nuclear fuel electrorefiners. This salt typically contains several actinides in addition to many active metal fission products (rare earths, Group I & II metals). However, most of the voltammetry studies to date have focused on a single actinide or lanthanide in eutectic LiCl-KCl. This paper examines experimental and analytical techniques that can be used to estimate the concentration of a molten salt mixture containing both lanthanum (III)- and gadolinium(III)-chloride in eutectic LiCl-KCl. The aspects of the experimental procedures and setup that are unique to a multi-lanthanide mixture are briefly discussed. Experimental results from qualitative and quantitative analyses of cyclic voltammetry and open-circuit potentiometry are presented. Due to the close proximity of their standard potentials, extensive analytical work is required to estimate the concentrations. Two approaches are used in this work: peak separation and multivariate analysis. The merits of these two methods will be analyzed and discussed.

Polarbear is a ground-based experiment located in the Atacama desert of northern Chile. The experiment is designed to measure the Cosmic Microwave Background B-mode polarization at several arcminute resolution. The CMB B-mode polarization on degree angular scales is a unique signature of primordial gravitational waves from cosmic in ation and B-mode signal on sub-degree scales is induced by the gravitational lensing from large-scale structure. Science observations began in early 2012 with an array of 1,274 polarization sensitive antenna-couple Transition Edge Sensor (TES) bolometers at 150 GHz. We published the first CMB-only measurement of the B-mode polarization on sub-degree scales induced by gravitational lensing in December 2013 followed by the first measurement of the B-mode power spectrum on those scales in March 2014. In this proceedings, we review the physics of CMB B-modes and then describe the Polarbear experiment, observations, and recent results.

The caddisfly family Hydropsychidae, containing about 1,500 described species is the 3rd largest family in Trichoptera. They are among the important components of biomonitoring programs because of their abundance and wide range of pollution tolerance values among species. In tropical Southeast Asia, 12 genera were currently recognized belonging to three subfamilies: Diplectroninae, Macronematinae, and Hydropsychinae. Herein, updated checklist and distribution of tropical Southeast Asian Hydropsychidae species were provided based on the review of published literatures and the trichoptera world website. As a result, a total of 356 species of tropical Southeast Asian Hydropsychidae have been described wherein the four most abundant genera were Hydropsyche (116 species), Cheumatopsyche (91 species), Diplectrona (42 species), and Hydromanicus (35 species). Tropical Southeast Asian Trichoptera studies were mostly done in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and in the Philippines making some other tropical Southeast Asian countries unexplored.

Understanding how researchers are tackling globally important issues, such as climate change, is crucial to identify whether current research is comprehensive enough to make substantive predictions about general responses to climate change. We assessed the type of studies being conducted by researchers to understand the impacts of climate change on insects, published. Most published research is generated from Europe and North America and being dedicated to core data analysis, with reviews being highly produced. Temperature – only is the main climate change factor being analysed, with most researchers are assessing changes in abundance or distribution/range shifts. Of most concern is the number of studies which do not specifically identify a climate change factor (ie just arm wave), the lack of studies on Hemimetabolous insects and the need for more studies to assess specific mechanistic responses to climate change.

We present medium resolution (R = 5000 - 6000) spectra in the near-infrared band, 1.4 - 1.8 μm, for template stars in G, K, and M types observed by the echelle spectrometer, IRCS, at the SUBARU 8.2 m telescope. The identification of lines is based on the spectra of Arcturus (K2 III) in the literature. We measured the equivalent of widths and compared our results to those of Meyer et al. (1998). We conclude that our spectral resolution (R = 6000) data can investigate more accurately the properties of lines in stellar spectra. The library of the template stellar spectra in ASCII format are available for download on the World Wide Web.
