The birth of Chinese characters is a brilliant stroke in the history of Chinese civilization. From the oracle bone inscription, bronze inscription, seal script, clerical script, square script, to simplified Chinese characters today, it is the result of the creation and implementation of countless wise men. The retrospective study of the form and meaning of Chinese characters is conducive to a thorough and comprehensive understanding of Chinese character culture. Since ancient times, the abolition of “颿” and the current simplification of “帆” are more complicated, and many books and reference books explain the relationship between them. Based on the meaning of “颿 (帆)”, this article uses the method of historical comparative research to analyze the variant glyphs related to the two characters so as to carefully sort out the evolution track of “颿” and “帆”, and points out that the pronunciation of “帆” in Mandarin shows an irregular change. By means of establishing a correlation between the two meanings, people can have a deep and comprehensive understanding of the meaning of “颿 (帆)”, which helps them not just understand and use it better but make an effort to interpret “颿 (帆)”.
