This paper considers the problem of scheduling loading and unloading operations of a crane in a railway terminal motivated from rail-road container transshipment operations at Uiwang Inland Container Depot (ICD). Unlike previous studies only considering the total handling time of containers, this paper considers a bi-criteria objective of minimizing the weighted sum of the total handling time and tenant service time. The tenant service time is an important criterion in terms of terminal tenants who are private logistics companies in charge of moving containers from/to the terminal using their trucks. In the rail-road container shipment yard, the tenant service time of a tenant can be defined by a time difference between beginning and finishing loading and unloading operations of a crane. Thus, finding a set of sequences and time of the crane operations becomes a crucial decision issue in the problem. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear program which is improved by linearizing a nonlinear constraint in the model. This paper develops a genetic algorithm to solve the problem and performs a case study on the Uiwang ICD terminal. Computational experiment results show that the genetic algorithm shows better performance than commercial optimization solvers. Operational implications in terms of tenants are drawn through sensitivity analyses.

We map two molecular clouds located in the exact anticenter region emitting in the (J = 1-0) transition of 12CO and 13CO using the 3-mm SIS mixer receiver on the 14-m radio telescope at Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. The target clouds with anomalous velocities of VLSR ~ - 20 km s-1 are distinguished from other clouds in this direction. In addition, they are located in the interarm region between the Orion Arm and the Perseus Arm. Sizes of the clouds are estimated to be about 8.6 and 10.8 pc, respectively. The total mass is estimated to be about 4 x 103 M⊙ using CO luminosity of the clouds. Several cores are detected, but no sign of star formation is found according to the IRAS point sources. Their larger linewidths, anomalous velocities, and their location at the interarm region make these clouds more distinguished, though their physical properties are similar to the dark clouds in the solar neighborhood in terms of mass and size.

A velocity inhomogeneity, which is the regional preponderence of either radial or tangential orbits, is searched with the new technique proposed by Kim (1992) for Coma, Hydra I, and Abell 2256 cluster of galaxies. Conspicuous inhomogeneities are found in the Coma and A2256 which X-ray isophotes are indicative for their underlying potentials being ellipitcal in shape, Even in their central regions, zones that are dominated by radial orbits are clearly distinguishable from that of the tangential orbits, and defining the cluster 'equator' as the direction of maximum elongation of the X-ray isophotes, radial orbits dominate along this direction whereas tangential orbits dominate the 'polar' zones. Merger events that are evidenced in X-ray observations occur in the equatorial zones of Coma and A2256, suggesting preponderence of radial orbits in the zones, which is in good agreement with their velocity structures. On the other hand, the inhomogeneity in Hydra I turns out to be insignificant in the central regions and this is just what is expected from a cluster whose X-ray isophotes is nearly circular. The velocity distribution in regions further out, however, shows significant inhomogeneity and this seems to support the previous results that this cluster is likely to have substructures and velocity anisotropy.

Linear polarization has been measured for fifteen extragalactic radio sources in the field of supernova remnant S 147. These observations were made at 4885, 4835, 1665, 1515, 1465, and 1385 MHz using the Very Large Array, primarily to determine unambiguous Rotation Measures (RM) of the sources. This yields a total of 11 new RM sources. Comparisons of a sample of sources which are seen through S 147 were made with sources located farther away. The result tentatively indicates that the distribution of the rotation measure of the former population is broadened, with more than a 85% level of confidence. This constitutes evidence that there is a SNR contribution to rotation measure in sources seen through the SNR. Limits on this RM contribution are statistically at 30 < | RM | < 70 rad m -2 with a 85% statistical level of confidence. These result imply the magnetic field in the rim of S 147 has strength 10 microguass if the electron density is 1 cm -3 .

Multi-frequency polarization observations of Abell 695 are reported here. The brightest radio source 0838+325, which was previously classified as a wide angled head-tail radio source, is, in the present observations, resolved into two separable sources, a head-tail source 0838+325 AB and a diffuse one 0838+325C. The radio-tail shows high degree of linear polarization( ~ 50 -25%) along the radio-tail, suggesting that the interaction with its surrounding intracluster medium (ICM) is not highly turbulent. With the present data, thermal particle densities at the locations of these sources are estimated to be n > 10 -5 cm-3 .
