        This study was performed to investigate the possible uses of waste sludge for the removal of heavy metal ions. The adsorption experiments were conducted with wastes such as sewage treatment sludge, water treatment sludge and oyster shell to evaluate their sorption characteristics. Heavy metals selected were cadmium, copper and lead. In the sorption experiments on the sewage treatment sludge, water treatment sludge, oyster shell and soil, sorption occurred in the beginning and it reached equilibrium after 40 minutes on the oyster shell and 4 hour on the sewage treatment sludge and water treatment sludge. Results of Freundlich isotherms indicated that sewage treatment sludge could be properly used as an adsorbent for heavy metals and sorption strength of heavy metals was in the order of Pb > Cu > Cd. In the influence of pH on the adsorbents, sorption rate was more than 80% in pH 4 and most of heavy metals were adsorbed in pH 9. Adsorption rate of Cd decreased with decreasing pH and then adsorption rate of Cu was lower in soil.

        The properties of biosorption of dye(Rhodmine B) was investigated to figure out the effects of temperature as a function of dye concentration and sludge concentration by the Langmuir and Lagergen adsorption model. It was found that the uptake capacity of biosorption was increased at low temperature. The Langmuir adsorption model was found suitable for describing the biosorption of the dye. The experimental results indicated that the dye uptake process followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics.

        방사성폐기물의 처분연구와 관련하여 대전 유성지역 화강암내 심부시추공 시추코아의 단열 광물들에 대한 광물학적 특성을 연구하였다. 유성지역의 심부시추공들에는 다수의 단열대가 발달해 있으며 국지적인 열수변질작용이 중첩되어 있다. YS-01 시추코아에 대한 전암분석결과 -90 m∼-130 m 구간과 -230 m ∼-250 m 구간에서 급격한 SiO2 함량 감소와 Al2O3, CaO, L.O.I 값의 증가가 관찰되며 이는 단열충전광물의 생성과 관련이 있다. 이러한 단열충전광물에 대한 XRD분석결과 불석광물(로몬타이트, 휼란다이트), 방해석, 일라이트(2M1과 1Md 다형), 녹니석, 녹염석, 카올리나이트 등이 확인되었으며, 산출되는 양은 방해석 불석광물 〉 일라이트 〉 녹염석 녹니석 〉 카올리나이트의 순이다. SEM관찰 및 EPMA 분석결과, 단열충전광물들의 심도에 따른 조직 및 화학특성의 변화는 관찰되지 않는다. 연구지역은 화강암반내에 발달된 단열대가 지하수의 유동로로 작용하여 오랜 기간에 걸친 물-암석 반응이 진행되었고, 또한 저온의 열수변질작용이 중첩되었기 때문에 이들에 의한 단열충전광물의 생성기원 연구가 필요하다.

        Waste paper cup was sulfonated to be used as ion exchanger. Removal characteristic of copper and lead ion by prepared ion exchanger was investigated. The sulfonation was conformed by the high intensity band of SO3H group around 1100~1160cm-1. The synthesized ion exchanger had greater removal ability for copper and lead ion than the original waste paper cup. Ion exchange system reached the final equilibrium plateau within 30min. The maximum removal capacities (qmax) were calculated as 9.79mg/g for copper and 15.95mg/g for lead, respectively. The affinity of lead based on a weight was higher than that of copper. The ion exchange phenomena appeared to follow a typical Freundlich isotherm.

        The objectives of this study are to examine combustion characteristics of E.V.A. and rubber wastes by fixed-bed incinerator. The results are as follows. Combustion temperature with time rises rapidly, and mass of E.V.A. reduces at short time in E.V.A. combustion. In variation of air-fuel ratio (m), the ideal values of m of E.V.A. and rubber are 2.5, 1.5 respectively. Mixed-waste combustion is more economic than single E.V.A. combustion, because we can get high combustion efficiency (94.0∼99.0%) at 2.0 air-fuel ratio of mixed-waste combustion. Removal efficiencies of SO2 at cooling tower are about 20%. The combustion efficiencies of rubber are over 98.0% according to the experimental conditions.
