A new deep red colored standard rose (Rosa hybrida Hort.) cultivar, `Best Red' was developed at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES). Seedling and line selection were conducted in 2003 and its characteristics were examined three times from 2004 to 2006. 'Best Red' which was obtained by cross between 'Vital' and 'Cardinal'. It shows a red group color (RHS No. 46C), medium fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray floret and flower center. The upper stem is moderate curved. The average yield during 2004-2006 was 111 stems/m2. Its vase life was 10 days. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It is suitable for greenhouses in all regions in Korea and will be released to farmers in 2009.

A new pale pink colored standard rose (Rosa hybrida Hort.) cultivar, 'Fine Pink' was developed at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES). Seedling and line selection were conducted in 2003 and its characteristics were examined three times from 2004 to 2006. 'Fine Pink' was obtained by crosse between 'Nobless' and 'Yvessaaintlaurent'. It shows a red group color (RHS No. 56C), very weak fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray floret and flower center. It has a characteristic of straight stem. The average yield during 2004-2006 was 113 stems/m2. It has 10 days vase life and resistance to powdery mildew. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It is suitable for greenhouse in all regions in Korea and will be released to farmers in 2009.

A new light pink colored standard rose (Rosa hybrida Hort.) cultivar, 'Top Pink' was developed by the cross between 'Nobless' and 'Belami' at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES) through seedling and line selection in 2003, and characteristic evaluation during 2004-2006. 'Top Pink' shows a Red group color (RHS No. 49A), strong fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray florlet and flower center, and straight stem. The yield was 131 stems/m2 averaged over three years (2004-2007). It showed 10 days vase life and was resistant to powdery mildew. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It can be cultured in greenhouses in Korea and will be released to farmers in 2009.

A new dark pink colored standard rose (Rosa hybrida Hort.) cultivar, 'Global Pink' was developed by the cross between 'Nobless' and `Belami' at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES) through seedling and line selection in 2003 and characteristic evaluations during 2004~2006. 'Global Pink' showed Red purple group color (RHS No. 65B), very weak fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray florlet and flower center. Its yield was 134 stems/m2 averaged over three years (2004-2007). It showed 10 days vase life and was resistant to powdery mildew. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It can be cultured in greenhouses in Korea and will be released to the farmers in 2009.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar, 'Whitney PangPang' was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), in 2006. The cross was made in 2003 between '01B1-41', a breeding line of NHRI and `01B1-273', a breeding line of NHRI. The characteristics were investigated from 2004 to 2006 for the evaluation and selection of this variety, including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of "Whitney PangPang" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has pompon type flowers with light-ivory petals and yellow green flower center. Flower neck and stem showed very strong hardness. The diameter of flower is 5.0 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11 and the days to flower under the short day treatment is about 56 in autumn season. "Whitney PangPang" has over 22 days of long vase life.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar, 'Yellow PangPang' was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), in 2005. The cross between 'Restone' and 'Focus' was made in 2001. After evaluation for the characteristics including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in spring and consecutive selection from 2002 to 2005, final selection was made. The natural flowering time of "Yellow PangPang" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has pompon type flowers with yellow petals and greenish yellow flower center. It shows very strong stem hardness, especially flower neck, and excellent flower setting. The diameter of flower is 3.9 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11.3 and the days to flower under the short day treatment is about 54 in autumn season. It has long vase life of 21 days in autumn.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar, 'Orange Memory' was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), in 2006. The cross was made in 2003 between '02B1-525', a breeding line of NHRI and '02B1-493', a breeding line of NHRI. After evaluation for the characteristics including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in spring and consecutive selection from 2002 to 2005, final selection was made. The natural flowering time of "Orange Memory" is Early November, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has semi-double type flowers with orange color and shows resistant to white rust and vigorous growth. The diameter of flower is 5.3 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 13.5 and number of petals per flower is 59.0. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 64 and its vase life is 20 days in autumn season.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar, 'Plaisir D'Amour' was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), in 2006. The cross was made in 2003 between '01B1-355', a breeding line of NHRI and `01B1-440', a breeding line of NHRI. After evaluation for the characteristics including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in spring between 2004 and 2006, final selection was made. The natural flowering time of 'Plaisir D'Amour' is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has single type flowers with mixed color by dark pink and white edged. It shows excellent flower setting and early blooming with multi-floret. The diameter of flower is 5.4 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 15.5 and number of petals per flower is 21.5. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 56 and its vase life is 21 days in autumn season.

The natural flowering time of "Innocence" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has round and wide petal, single type flowers with pure white petals and yellowish green flower center. The flowers are large and volumed. The plant shows vigorous growth. The diameter of flower is 7.4 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 9.3 and number of petals per flower is 27.7. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 57 and its vase life is 19 days in autumn season.

The diameter of flower is 6.6 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11.7 and number of petals per flower is 27. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 56 and its vase life is 19 days in autumn season.

A new spray chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar Peak was bred by crossing between GrandPink and Relance. Its growth and flower characteristics were investigated from 2002 to 2004 by shading culture in summer andretarding culture in spring.

본 연구는 나라꽃 무궁화의 아름다움을 나타내는 화색에 미치는 요인 중 토양산도와 무궁화의 화색특성과 생장과의 관계를 조사 연구함으로써 가장 이상적인 색깔을 갖추는 pH 범위를 파악하여 무궁화 화색육종 계획의 기초를 마련하고자 하였다. 토양산도별 생육특성을 조사하고 분석한 결과 홍화랑과 영광 품종은 pH 7에서 엽수가 183.73개와 135.87개로 가장 높게 나타났으며 pH가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 토양산도별 4품종의 화색변화를 조사하고 분석한 결과 홍화랑 품종은 pH가 높아짐에 따라 L값은 17.05~12.26로 점점 낮아졌으며 a값은 16.37~20.91로 점점 높게 나타났다.

We have studied the effects of dampening papers (Dampened paper, Newspaper, Korean paper, Flower sheet), silica gel (30g, 60g) and temperature (20℃, 25℃) on color changes of Erythronium japonicum. In the treatment of 20℃, color changes were low in treatments with silica gel rather than in a treatment of dampening papers. In particular, newspaper and Korean paper showed much less changes in colors by the combination treatments with 30g of silica gel. Likewise, in the treatment of 25℃, color changes were low in combination treatments with silica gel rather than in a alone treatment of dampening papers. For the combination treatment with 30g of silica gel, low color changes were shown in the divisions of newspaper and Korean paper, while for the combination treatment with 60g of silica gel, low color changes were shown in the those of Korean paper and dampened paper.

This study was performed to provide basic information of the development and breeding of new cultivars of Hibiscus syriacus L., which have more beautiful and diverse flowers. Morphological characteristics of the flowers and leaves, and genetic variation of the flowers color of two Jeoktanshim-line cultivars, Bulsae and Pyungsung, were crossed each other. The result of the cross between Bulsae and Pyungsung are as follows: Mean flower height and width were 5.35 cm and 7.69 cm, respectively. Mean length and width of petal were 5.43 cm and 3.80 cm respectively, and mean length and width of flower pistil were 4.67 cm and 0.44 cm, respectively. The flower color of all ten individuals was the color of the Jeoktanshim-line, and Pyungsung, and all flower type were I-c type.

This thesis had an aim to help university students act floriculture effectively, and investigated universities' preference of the flower color objectfying 149 students. The three cut flowers in our country were selected, and they are the rose, the carnation, and the chrysanthemum. This thesis inquired of thirty flower gardens about color selection through telephone, and selected the most favored colors of three cut flowers asking the customers. The colors were red, yellow, and pink. This thesis established six polling booths in the lecture room 6.3m wide and 7m long, and put the rose, the carnation, and the chrysanthemum. To investigate the preference of color based on cut flower put in the polling booth 1,2, and 3, this thesis put the common color - red, pink, and yellow to investigate the preference of cut flower based on color in the polling booth 4,5,6. Scrutinizing the flower color after experimental study based on cut flower, this thesis found out that in the case of the rose, the most objects(48 persons, p=0.064) of investigation preferred yellow. In the case of chrysanthemum, the most objects(107 persons, p=0.0000) preferred pink. The rose and the chrysanthemum were significant statistically. Scrutinizing the preference of the cut flower based on the color, in the case of red cut flower, the most objects(89 persons, p=0.0000) preferred the rose, and in the case of yellow cut flower, the most objects(52 persons, p=0.0000) preferred the rose. In the case of pink cut flower, the most objects(89 persons, p=0.003) preferred chrysanthemum. All of them were significant statistically. When scrutinizing the tendency based on sex and age, this thesis found out that in the case of flower color, the persons 19～22 years old preferred pink carnation, and the persons 23～29 years old preferred yellow carnation. All of them were significant statistically(0.007) But the tendency based on sex or age were not significant statistically.
