According to the results of the management evaluation of the nation’s public firms over the past seven years, the rating of the port corporation is generally insufficient. According to the results of the seven-year study 2011-2017, the average debt ratio of the port corporation was 34.5%, two to three times lower than that of the general public company, the operating profit ratio of sales was three times higher, and the value added per person was 1.6-1.9 times better. However, the aggregate score and grade were generally low, with 4.1% of the total number of employees of the general public corporation, 10% of the average total assets, and 1% of the average sales volume. The distributed analysis results and panel return analysis results show that the size significantly impacts the overall score and grade. Additionally, major business standards such as port volume, not controlled by the port corporation, appear to have a decisive influence on the low grade of the port corporation. Thus, it appears that improvement and supplementation of key business indicators of port construction are urgently needed in the management evaluation system, which can be properly controlled.
Ports play a key role in international trade, as integral hubs where passengers and cargoes are loaded, discharged, and transshipped. However, the function of ports is becoming more diversified, expanding on roles as industrial clusters, as well as logistical centers. Such roles combined, reap numerous and significant benefits, mainly with growth of jobs and wealth creation, for the local population living in the city, and beyond. Citizens’ awareness of the function and value of ports may not be positive, because of a range of negative factors such as emissions, noise, and road congestion, which can influence their perception. This study’s contribution focuses on empirically evaluating the perception of Busan citizens of the local port, by applying Q methodology. The links connecting the port-city and local population, are assessed by identifying: 1) The level of awareness of the Busan citizens of the port; 2) Factors perceived as positive as well as factors perceived as negative by Busan citizens. There are four main factors, derived from the analysis: 1) Port functional knowledge; 2) Lack of social connectedness port-city; 3) Environmentally concerned and; 4) Absent port’s ripple’s effect. Policy recommendations suggest focusing on improving citizens’ perception of the port, for each of the four main factors derived from the analysis.
Colombo noticeably became the most economical gateway to the Indian subcontinent, in terms of cost as well as time. The Colombo Port Expansion Project (CPEP) started commencement with the purpose of accommodating mega ships, under the long-term strategies of making Colombo the hub of South Asia. In this context, the purpose of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between Indian ports’ originated container traffic, and total transshipments of the port of Colombo, and also to identify the nature of the causality between the two variables, evaluating Granger causality test results. It finds unidirectional causality from total transshipments of Colombo to Indian ports’ originated transshipments in the port of Colombo. It suggested that ongoing port expansion projects, opening up for new markets and attracting new shipping lines in the port of Colombo, have generated significant impact on Indian ports’ container traffic, via the port of Colombo. Findings would be valuable for future forecasting of container traffic in Colombo port and the policy-making process in the port as well.
Since the mid 1980s, the concept of logistics has become more important to the enterprises in strategic sense because it had aggrandized itself to more comprehensive and integrative concept. Therefore study on the service organization of the logistics system for customer’s satisfaction from the management’s point has been focused as one of the major subject in order to improve the logistics quality which would ultimately increase the value of logistics service. This study has been focused on what the port logistics functions and the factors of the port logistics quality are those Korean port managers acknowledge as important factor. And examins these port logistics quality levels and the port logistics value (port productivity, service results) obtained by the results of these activities while reviewing the relation of the custom value which the port managers evaluate in order to evaluate and promote the competitiveness of the Korean port. According to the study results the port logistics function which the Pusan Container Terminal managers recognized as important were customer service management the flexibility of the port facilities and curtailment of the original operation cost of the port. It also indicated that the managers recognized the importance of the customer-oriented terminal management as it showed a close relationship with the port quality level.
