This paper is based on the presentation I made for the online conference as part of Peace Talks series in Paris, June 10, 2021 and as a follow up to the 2021 World Peace Island Forum: 6+1 Culture Forum in Jeju. A blending conference on Education, Peace, Sustainable Development and process of designation of Jeju 4.3 Victim Records as UNESCO World Program of Memory MoW. This is constructed from my perspective as Doctor in anglophone studies and gender and development studies, main IFBPW representative to UNESCO, member of the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee and the CCNGO-Education2030 coordination group, UNESCO key mechanism for reflection, dialogue and partnerships for the implementation of SDG4.

After the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Korean Peninsula got in the mood for peace, prosperity, and unification with the South-North Panmunjom Declaration and the Pyongyang Joint Declaration after a long time. The President Moon spoke in front of the people in Pyongyang for the first in history and won thunderous applause. In line with this atmosphere, South Korean educators are actively responding to it and making constant efforts for inter-Korean education exchanges, such as field trips to North Korea. In this article, I’d like to examine the unification education from the extra-curricular perspective(e.g. students' clubs and creative experience activities), not from the curricular perspective, such as ethics, and social studies.

The aim of this paper to provide grounds for Jeju 4.3 Human Rights educational activities to students. We have 2015 Revised Social Studies Curriculum Basic Direction - Goals and Contents of Korean History - Goals of Korean History (Revised July 27, 2018). It helps students to grasp the process of pre-modern Korean history, and use it as the basis for understanding self-identity and tradition comprehensively and systematically. Through the in-depth understanding of modern and contemporary history in Korea, students develop the ability to gain insight into the historical problems of modern Korean society. Through the process of exploring and interpreting various historical materials, students develop their ability to think critically with a critical mind and identify the historical roots of the problems faced by modern Korean society and their relevance to the world, and jointly seek ways to solve problems that can be realized at the learner level.

The Jeju Teachers' Association and Jeju Island Office of Education also proposes a visit to Japan to learn about their lives in connection with Korean schools in Japan. In 2020, Jeju National University and Ritsumeikan University plan to have the opportunity to jointly study and research the lives of Koreans in Japan from the standpoint of peace and human rights education. Based on the opinions of these international researchers, we should cover the human rights abuses committed under the US military administration and the responsibility for the deaths under US military influence, even after the establishment of the Korean government, and to restore the honor of 4.3 victims and survivors to prevent this from happening again. This is to protect peace and human rights in Jeju and the Korean peninsula.

We conclude if Jeju Peace Island for Koreas 2018 gets international awareness from participants in the spheres of Peace Island Education & Tourism Welfare Model at the Grass Roots Level, it will contribute to institutionalization of both peace island and welfare tourism. In addition, if Jeju government supports the financial budget for the establishment of a Jeju Peace University or a Jeju Environmental University, our efforts might include an impetus to create and operate a Jeju Peace University or a Jeju Environmental University based on collaborative Jeju Peace Studies in Korea and internationally in the nearer future. Of course, we believe that, through this kind of collaborative leadership, a vision of a Nonviolence Korea “Jeju Peace Island for two Koreas” might serve as a buffer zone potentially approved by the Six Nations in the Asia Pacific region in 2019.

More than a century before Grotius wrote his famous work on international law, his countryman Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam laid the foundations for the modern critique of war. In several writings, especially those published in the period 1515- 1517, the “prince of humanists”brilliantly and devastatingly condemned war not only on Christian but also on secular/rational grounds. His graphic depiction of the miseries of war, together with his impassionate plea for its avoidance, remains unparalleled. Erasmus argued as a moralist and educator rather than as a political theorist or statesman. If any single individual in the modern world can be credited with“ the invention of peace,”the honour belongs to Erasmus rather than Kant whose essay on perpetual peace was published nearly three centuries later.

The experience of natural dyeing is expected to be effective in promoting health through good exercise, in giving emotional stability based on the functional aromatic components of the dyeing material, and in improving self-esteem and increasing positive experiences through the behavior of creation. A natural dyeing material easily found around us, artemisia has long been used in food and Oriental medicine and was recently found to contain antioxidative, anticancer, deodorizing, antibacterial, anti-obesity, and anti-diabetes substances through chemical analysis. It has also been reported that group reminiscence therapy using the fragrance of artemisia is effective in relieving pain and depression and in promoting ego integrity in the elderly population. This study aimed to make a comparative analysis of dyeability, washing fastness, and deodorization between Artemisia princeps, Artemisia iwayomogi, and Artemisia annua, all of which are considered to be healthful and functional dyeing materials, among about thirty domestic plants in the genus of Artemisia and to provide basic data concerning natural dyeing in mind-peace education for the silver generation. The fabric dyed and post-mordanted at 80℃ for 40 minutes showed the greatest surface color variation; in this condition, artemisia princes (32.29) gave the greatest color difference, followed by artemisia iwayomogi (31.07) and artemisia annua (26.17). While all the types of artemisia were excellent in washing fastness, dry-cleaning fastness, and rubbing fastness at the fourth- or fifth-grade, light fastness was at the third grade for artemisia princes, at the second to third grade for artemisia annua, and at the second grade for artemisia iwayomogi; therefore, artemisia princes was found to give better fastness than the other two types of artemisia. In determining functionality of the fabric dyed with artemisia, deodorization test also found that the fabric dyed with artemisia princes had 20% higher deodorization.
