The main objectives of this research are to investigate characteristics of ozone solubility due to low solubility of conventional bubbles-ozone generators, evaluate the treatment characteristics of reclaiming textile wastewater for industrial water by means of micro/nano bubbles-dissolved ozone flotation(MNB-DOF) process. The textile wastewater used in this research was obtained from final effluent of the textile wastewater in B city. There is a 400L reactor which consists of a micro-nano bubble system and a ozone generator for experiments. As a result of generating micro-nano bubbles (below 0.5 ㎛) by using of MNB-DOF process, it improved ozone solubility due to higher ozone transfer rates. Consequently, the shorter ozonation time clearly indicates the lower power costs. The reported results clearly indicated that MNB-DOF process can be effectively and inexpensively. Results of the experiments through MNB-DOF process in this study satisfy all reclaiming standards as industrial water: pH 6.5~8.5, SS 10 mg/L or below, BOD_5 6 mg/L or below, turbidity 10 NTU or below, Coliforms 1,000/100 mL or below. Therefore there is a possibility of the reclaiming of the textile wastewater as industrial water.

The temporal variations of methene emission and its relation to air temperature were investigated in Upo-swamp during June 2007 through July 2008. To perform this study, the methene emission and air temperature were observed using the buoy-type chamber and automatic weather observation system(AWS), respectively. The methene emissions were much during summertime(June〜August). The maximum value(about 73.4 ㎎/㎡/hr) appeared at August. The emission diminished by degrees after August. The methene emissions were fewer from September to May of the following year. The peak value(73.4 ㎎/㎡/hr) of the methene emission is very much compared to that of rice pappy field known as about 28.7 ㎎/㎡/hr.

In this study, we investigated the effects of Upo-swamp upon local thermal environment with nighttime cooling rate. To do this, we set up the AWS(Automatic Weather observation System) over the central part of Upo-swamp on the early October 2007. We conducted the study by comparing the AWS data with another weather data observed by several meteorological observations of the Korea Meteorological Administration located at the vicinity of Upo-swamp for one year. The air temperature of Upo-swamp was higher than that of the surrounding in cold-climate season. But it was opposite in warm-climate season. We confirmed that Upo-swamp roles to mitigate the daily and annual air temperature ranges. And the daily air temperature variation of Upo-swamp lagged behind the land one. This phenomenon represent that the heat reservoir capacity of Upo-swamp is much larger than that of the ground.

Bootstrap methods is the computer-based resampling method that estimates the standard errors and confidence intervals of summary statistics using the plug-in principle for assessing the accuracy or uncertainty of statistical estimates, and the BCa method among the Bootstrap methods is known much superior to other Bootstrap methods in respect of the standards of statistical validation. Therefore this study suggests the method of the representation and treatment of uncertainty in flood risk assessment and water resources planning from the construction and application of rainfall frequency analysis model considersing the uncertainty based on the nonparametric BCa method among the Bootstrap methods for the assessement of the estimation of probability rainfall and the effect of uncertainty considering the uncertainty of the parameter estimation of probability in the rainfall frequency analysis that is the most fundamental in flood risk assessement and water resources planning.

The probability concepts mainly used for rainfall or flood frequency analysis in water resources planning are the frequentist viewpoint that defines the probability as the limit of relative frequency, and the unknown parameters in probability model are considered as fixed constant numbers. Thus the probability is objective and the parameters have fixed values so that it is very difficult to specify probabilistically the uncertianty of these parameters. This study constructs the uncertainty evaluation model using Bayesian MCMC and Metropolis -Hastings algorithm for the uncertainty quantification of parameters of probability distribution in rainfall frequency analysis, and then from the application of Bayesian MCMC and Metropolis- Hastings algorithm, the statistical properties and uncertainty intervals of parameters of probability distribution can be quantified in the estimation of probability rainfall so that the basis for the framework configuration can be provided that can specify the uncertainty and risk in flood risk assessment and decision-making process.

For the reconstruction of the past vegetational changes in Jeju Island, Korea, pollen analysis and radiocarbon dating on the sediments obtained from the Mulyeongari fen were carried out. By the results, the vegetational changes around the Mulyeongari fen from ca. 3,300 cal. yr BP to the present can be interpreted and reconstructed. The pollen record from the Mulyeongari fen was divided into two local pollen assemblage zones and three sub-pollen assemblage zones. Zone I (Quercus-Carpinus-Herbs Zone) was characterized by the predominance of Quercus(30~63%), Carpinus(9~35%) and herbs(40~424%). Zone II was characterized by three sub-pollen assemblage zones and the high occurrence ratio of the tree layer in comparison with Zone I. In Zone IIa (Quercus-Carpinus Zone), herbs(3~161%) were drastically decreased in predominance of Quercus(28~56%) and Carpinus(14~31%). In Zone IIb (Carpinus-Quercus Zone), Carpinus(36~48%) was preferentially increased but Quercus(29~39%) was slightly decreased. In Zone IIc (Quercus-Carpinus Zone), Carpinus(26~38%) was decreased inversely but Quercus(36~50%) was increased. In addition, Cyperaceae was also increased to 52%. Consequently, it is suggested that cool temperate southern/sub-montane vegetation composed of Quercus and Carpinus which was physiognomy of deciduous broad leaved forest was distributed around the Mulyeongari fen from ca. 3,300 cal. yr BP. In addition, Cyclobalanopsis(4~23%), Castanopsis(1~12%) and Myrica(under 1%) which are warm-temperate evergreen deciduous forest components were constantly appeared from this period. Accordingly, it can be inferred that the present vegetation type around the Mulyeongari fen was formed from ca. 180 cal. yr BP.

The purpose of this study is to find out effects of environmental expression programs using environmental resources of the areas in which students live so that it verified the effects by developing environmental expression programs using local environmental resources and then teaching the programs to local students. The findings are as follows. First, environmental experience programs using local environmental resources help elementary school students Environmental Literacy. Second, the programs have a positive effect on changes in the students’ Pro-environmental Attitude

This study analyzed the characteristics of stormwater runoff by rainfall type in orchard areas for two years. Effluents were monitored to calculate the EMCs and runoff loads of each pollutant. The runoff characteristics for nonpoint sources from vineyards were also inspected based on independent variables that affect runoff such as rainfall and rainfall intensity. The average runoff loads of each pollutant from vineyard_A and vineyard_B were found as follows: BOD 39.13 ㎎/㎡, COD 112.13 ㎎/㎡, TOC 54.98 ㎎/㎡, SS 1,681.8 ㎎/㎡, TN 18.29 ㎎/㎡, and TP 4.06 ㎎/㎡, which indicates that the COD's runoff load was especially high. The average EMCs from vineyard_A and vineyard_B, which represents the quality of rainfall effluent, were also analyzed: BOD 3.5 ㎎/L, COD 11.5 ㎎/L, TOC 5.2 ㎎/L, SS 211.7 ㎎/L, TN 1.774 ㎎/L, and TP 0.324 ㎎ /L. This suggested that the COD, as an indicator of organic pollutants, is high in terms of EMCs as well. As rainfall increased, the EMCs of BOD, COD, TOC and SS kept turning upward. At a point, however, the high rainfall brought about dilution effects and began to push down the EMCs. Higher rainfall intensities led to the increase in the EMCs that displays the convergence of rainfall. Low rainfall intensities also raised pollutant concentrations, although the concentrations themselves were slightly different among pollutants.

This study aims at the examination of the relative characteristics of discharge and water quality in river basins using statistical methods. For it, water quality and discharge data was collected in observed stations of Nakdong river and carried out correlation analysis, regression analysis, factor analysis and cluster analysis. And it was investigated the applicability of water quality prediction using Nearest-neighbor method. As a result, it grasped a trenditional characteristics and mutual relations between discharge an water quality data. Therefore, this results were suggested the comprehensive data and methods for a management of water quality, effective operation and policy development in Nakdong river basin

Organotin compounds (OTs), namely butyltins compounds (BTs) and phenyltin compounds (PhTs), were measured in surface and core sediments collected in Jeju harbor. The horizontal and vertical distribution was examined and the relationship between the concentration of OTs and organic matter content and particle size distribution was also studied. BTs were detected in significant concentrations in sediments inside Jeju harbor. PhTs were detected in very low concentrations, compared to BTs. The main species in BTs and PhTs were dibutyltin (DBT) and monobutyltin (MBT), monophenyltin (MPhT), respectively. In the relationships between the concentrations of total BTs and organic carbon content, the significant correlations (r2=0.4898 in surface sediments, r2=0.53 in one core sediments) and no correlation in another core sediments obtained, which is estimated that the distribution of BTs in sediments were affected by several factors, such as their physicochemical properties including organic carbon content, and a tide, etc. In the relationships between the concentrations of total BTs and particle size (mud, sand, and gravel) in sediments, the concentrations of total BTs were higher in the sediments with higher mud content, indicating that higher BTs were distributed with increasing sediments of fine granules.

Weather forecasting is one of the key elements to improve health through the prevention and mitigation of health problems. Health forecasting is a potential resource creating enormous added value as it is effectively used for people. The purpose of this study is to estimate 'Willingness to Pay' for health forecasting. This survey was carried out to derive willingness to pay from 400 people who lived in Busan and Kyungnam Province and over 30 years of age during the period of July 1-31, 2009. The results showed that a 47.50% of people had intention to willingness to pay for health forecasting, and the pay was 7,184.21 won per year. Willing to pay goes higher depending on 'tax burden as to benefit of weather forecasting', 'importance of the weather forecasting in the aspect of health', 'satisfaction to the weather forecasting', and 'frequency of health weather index check'. This study followed the suggestion of the Korea Meteorological Administration generally and the values derived through surveys could be reliable. It can be concluded that a number of citizens who are willing to pay for health forecasting are high enough to meet the costs needed to provide health forecasting.

In order to clarify the impact of regional warming on the ozone concentration according to the differences in meteorological contribution in each city over the South-Eastern part of the Korean Peninsula, several numerical experiments were carried out. WRF - CMAQ model was used to access the ozone differences in each case, during the episode day. Meteorological contributions estimated by WRF command a reasonable feature on the dispersion of ozone concentrations in each city according to regional warming. This causes a difference in estimated ozone concentration. A higher ozone concentration difference tend to be forecasted in coastal cities than in upcountry city. Therefore, the emission reduction policy according to the regional warming should consider the characteristics of meteorological contribution of each city.

This study was conducted to investigate runoff characteristics of non-point pollutants source at the urban and rural zones in sangju area. The monitoring was conducted with seven events for ten months and Event mean Concentration(EMC) and First Flush Effect(FFE) of SS and BOD were calculated on the result of the water quality parameters. During rainfall event, the peak concentrations of SS and BOD were observed after 3∼4 hours of rainfall in rural areas. Whereas, the peak concentrations occurred within 1∼2 hours after rainfall and then the highest concentration of NPS pollutants sharply decreased, showing strong first flush effect in urban areas. The cumulative load curves for NPS pollutants showed above the 45° straight line, indicating that fist flush effect occurred in urban areas. The mean SS EMC values of rural areas ranged from 0.9∼3.3mg/L, it was higher value when compare to urban areas. While the mean BOD values of urban areas were shown the highest values.
