최근의 한자교육 연구는 수업의 효율성을 높이기 위한 다양한 교수학습 방법의 개발과 활용에 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 맥락 하에 초등학교 한자교육의 효율성을 높일 수 있는 방법으로써 매체 활용 교육에 주목하였다. 이에 현재 실시되고 초등학교 한자교육에 있어서의 매체활용 교육실태를 교육감 인정도서, 사교육 시장의 교재, 인터넷상의 교재를 중심으로 분석하여 이에 대한 성과와 문제점을 밝히고 개선방안을 제시하였다. 교육감 인정도서에 나타난 매체 활용 교육 실태를 살펴보면 사진매체, 문자매체, 놀이나 게임·조작 등의 학습활동매체, 컴퓨터 등의 전자매체가 사용되었다. 사교육시장의 한자교재는 인정도서와 비교하여 별다른 차이점은 없으나 매체 활용의 다양성면에서는 부족하고 부교재 구성에 있어서는 많은 장점을 지니고 있다. 인터넷상 한자교재의 구성은 동영상강의, 플래시 애니메이션을 활용한 자원이나 필순의 학습, 게임을 통한 한자·한자어 익히기, 단원평가 등으로 이루어져 있다. 초등학교 한자교육에서의 매체활용 성과를 살펴보면 현행 초등학교 한자교육용 인정도서들은 기존의 암기위주, 쓰기위주의 한자 학습에서 벗어나 수업의 단계에 적합한 다양한 교수매체를 활용하여 學習者의 興味를 誘發하고 自發的 參與를 擴張시킴으로써 漢字敎育의 效率化와 質的 水準 向上에 많은 기여를 하였다. 반면 여러 가지 學習狀況에 대한 洞察이 다소 缺如된 상태에서 기계적이고 반복적으로 교수매체를 적용한다거나, 매체의 성격이나 교수-학습의 필요를 충분히 考慮하여 이에 適切한 敎授媒體를 選擇하는데 不足한 면이 있다. 또한 學年別로 認知的, 情緖的 發達段階에 適合한 敎授媒體의 開發이나 교사와 학생들이 활발히 상호작용을 할 수 있는 교수매체의 활용 에 대한 노력이 더욱 필요하다고 본다. 초등학교 한자교육에서 바람직한 교수매체의 활용으로 학습효과를 높이기 위해서는 敎育課程 計劃段階에서부터 이에 대한 考慮를 필요로 하며 각 학년의 발달단계와 교수-학습 상황에 적합한 정제된 매체를 개발 보급해야 한다. 특히 시대적 흐름이나 학생들의 관심, 매체의 특성, 수업의 효율성이라는 측면에서 볼 때 컴퓨터를 활용한 보다 다양한 학습 방법의 개발이 있어야 한다. 아울러 현재 개발되어 있는 매체나 방법들을 교사 연수 등의 기회를 통하여 지속적으로 널리 보급하여 한자교육의 저변을 확대하는 일도 소홀히 할 수 없다. 한자교육의 발전과 漢字敎科書의 質的 向上은 밀접한 관련이 있다. 따라서 보다 완성도 높은 교과서를 개발하는 일에 많은 노력을 경주해야 하며 良質의 교과서들이 보다 적극적으로 널리 활용되는 풍토가 마련되어야 하겠다. 위의 모든 논의에 앞서 교사 스스로가 수업효과를 극대화하기 위한 교수방법과 교수매체는 무엇인지 끊임없이 연구해야 한다고 본다.

Recent 'Chinese Character Education' has made great efforts to reinvent and improve the various teaching-learning methods for higher effectiveness in lectures. In this context, this study focuses on media- aided teaching as a good technique for the purpose of effective learning. I have analyzed the current status of media-aided teaching including textbooks authorized by the government, of private institutes and on the Internet I have examined the public textbooks, electric media such as computers and learning-activity media such as pictures, characters, games and activities manipulation etc. The materials on the Internet, showing little difference from the public ones, have strong points in auxiliary textbooks but weak ones in a diversity of media use. They are composed of three parts; the origin and writing order of Chinese characters with the help of moving pictures and animations, practicing some of the Chinese characters and words in games, and evaluation part. We considered the effect of using media in elementary schools. Authorized Chinese character textbooks for primary schools are thought to have contributed to the greater efficiency and higher quality in Chinese character education by stimulating students' interests and their voluntary participation with appropriate media while escaping from the older approach relying on monotonous memory and writing exercise. On the other hand, it should improve the mechanical and repetitive application of media that have had little insight into the teaching-learning atmosphere. Also what is required is greater effort for effective development and application of the medium that is suitable for the emotional and cognitive development of each learners and for the active communication between teachers and students. For effective learning, with a desirable media application of 'Chinese Character Education' in elementary schools, the media application should be considered carefully from the planning phase of education curriculum. The media should be refined to suit each grade. In regards to the current trends, the characteristics of the media, the effectiveness of an instruction, it demands more diverse teaching methods in the use of computers. Also, it is important to expand the base of 'Chinese Character Education' by distributing widely the approaches of current media and the 'know-hows' to teachers in training courses. Every endeavor should be made to upgrade the textbooks and then distribute them to teachers' positive use. Before expecting these above-mentioned methods to happen, teachers should do their best to research optimal teaching methods and teaching medium for better teaching.
