‘Pearl Stars’는 2013년 전라북도농업기술원에서 육성한절화용 백색 겹꽃 안개초 신품종으로 분지각이 작고 줄기가 단단한 특성을 가진다. 2009년 화색이 밝고 소화수가 많은 ‘Gyp04-11’계통을 모본으로 화경장이 길고 줄기가 단단한 ‘Gyp07-39’ 계통을 부본으로 교배하여 78개 종자를 채종하였다. 2010년 파종하여 획득한 71개 실생계통을 특성 평가한 결과 백색 겹꽃으로 일시개화성이며 분지각이 작은 ‘Gyp11-52’을 선발하였고, 3년 동안 특성평가를 실시하여 ‘Pearl Stars’를 육성하였다. ‘PearlStars’의 초형은 직립형이고 잎은 좁은 타원 모양, 소화는 백색 겹꽃에 소화수가 많고 일시개화성이 우수하다. 화서의 외부 위 모양은 둥글고 꽃잎 둥근 정도는 중간, 꽃잎 굴곡은 밖으로 굽은 식물체 고유 형태적 특성을 가진다. 또한 주 화경의 직립정도가 강하고 1차 측지의 분지각이 작으며, 안토시아닌 색소 발현이 많고 흰가루병에대체로 약한 편이다. 익산에서 7월 2일 ‘Pearl Stars’와 대조품종인 ‘Mirabella’ 삽아묘를 정식하여 가을 개화작형에서 특성검정한 결과, ‘Pearl Stars’가 ‘Mirabella’보다 8일 정도 개화가 빨랐고, 마디수가 적고 화경장이 짧았으며, 주당 발생 분지수는 2.2개 정도 더 많았다. 엽장, 꽃자루 길이, 열편크기는 ‘Mirabella’보다 짧았고, 엽폭과 소화크기는 더 컸다. 소화수가 많고 일시 개화성이 우수하고 줄기가 단단하여 시장성이 우수하며, 2015년 3월 국립종자원에 신품종으로 등록(제5356호)되었다.

The upper exterior appearance of its inflorescence isrounded, roundness of petal tips is medium, and petalshave outward curvature. In addition, ‘Pearl Stars’ hasnarrow branching angle of primary branches, highexpression level of anthocyanin pigment on stem andlobe, and is slightly susceptible to powdery mildew. ‘PearlStars’ bloomed earlier by 8 days and had less nodenumber and shorter flower stalk length compared to cultivar‘Mirabella’ during autumn flowering cultivation. Additionally,‘Pearl Stars’ produced approximately 2.2 more stems perplant, wider leaf and floret width, and shorter leaf,penducle, and lobe length than ‘Mirabella’. Marketability of‘Pearl Stars’ was considered to be high as the cultivarproduces great number of florets, has good simultaneousblooming habit, and strong flowering stem. This cultivar was registered on Korea Seed and Variety Services(KSVS) for plant protection rights in 2015.
