이 연구는 앤서니 브라운 첫 작품 『거울 속으로』에 등장하는 포스트모더니즘적 철학의 의미를 분석하고 있다. 『거울 속으로』는 아이들과 학부모에게 다소 낯선 회화적 요소뿐만 아니라 스토리의 구성이 기존의 그림책과는 다르게 표현되어 있다. 앤서니 브라운 『거울 속으로』에서는 기존의 그림책이 시도하지 않았던 회화적 표현 기법을 사용하였으며 그림책의 내용으로 아이들과 공감할 수 있는 세계로 이끈다. 이 그림책은 상상력의 오브제(obget)와 시뮬라크르 제시를 통하여 아이들에게 창조의 기쁨을 일으킨다. 그림책 속에는 푸코가 제시하는 팝옵티콘(panopticon)의 시선이 미치지 않는 자유와 즐거움 그리고 행복의 ‘헤테로토피아’적 공간에 대한 철학도 담겨있다. 이 그림 책의 색채는 전반적으로 초록과 빨강, 노랑이 반복적으로 표현되고 이러한 반복적 색깔의 변화는 작가의 의도성이 담겨져 있다. 『거울 속으로』에서 초록, 빨강, 노랑은 작가의 메시지를 담고 있다.
앤서니 브라운 『거울 속으로』는 공동체 생활에서 다소 소외 받을 수 있는 아이들에게 자유와 꿈과 희망을 주며, 보편화되고 획일화된 미래 세상을 뛰어 넘어 개별자의 특수성이 인정되고 모두가 배려되고 존중받는 진정한 아동중심 사상을 제시해 주는 포스터모더니즘의 어린이 철학 교재이다.

This study examines the various meanings of postmodernism philosophy in Anthony Brown’s fairy tale Through the Magic Mirror. Through the Magic Mirror is not only an attractive picture book that attracts children and their parents, but the story's plot is also very different from an original fairy tale. This particular fairy tale provides objects and symbols that stimulate imagination, and encourages children's empathy, unlike traditional fairy tales. Foucault’s heterotopia of freedom, pleasure and happiness, in which surveillance and punishment do not exist, offers one lens for examination, as does the work of Deleuze who observed that art impresses us through repetition and difference. Fairy tales also engage children by adding emotions to their colorful imaginations.
Anthony Brown’s children’s philosophy book can provide unlimited imaginative moments for children to build a future world, and offers numerous pleasures through the fairy tale.
