본 연구에서는 인지평가이론의 예측을 토대로 체육수업 상황에서 교사의 지도행동에 따라 학생의 체육 내적동기가 어떻게 달라지는가를 알아보았다. 남녀 중학생 475명을 대상으로 CBAS의 12개 행동 범주를 반영한 질문지를 이용하여 체육교사의 지도행동에 대한 인식을 평가하였다. 학생의 체육 내적 동기는 두 종류의 IMI 한국관에 대한 평가를 거쳐 원본을 더 잘 반영하는 문항을 선택하여 측정하였다. 남학생이 여학생보다 체육을 더 좋아하고 더 열심히 하는 것으로 나타나 체육수업에 임하는 동기에서 성차가 발견되었다. 14명의 체육교사의 지도행동에 대한 학생의 인식을 분석한 결과 처벌통제나 지도격려 중에서 어느 한쪽을 더 강하게 평가하는 경향을 보여 `X`자 형태의 프로파일이 만들어졌다. 남학생과 여학생 사이에 약간의 차이는 있지만 대체로 기술지도와 격려 위주의 지도행동은 체육에 대한 재미와 유능감을 높이는데 도움이 되었다. 반면 통제와 처벌에 의존하고 칭찬에 인색한 교사의 지도를 받은 학생은 체육시간에 더 긴장하는 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 스포츠심리학과 스포츠 교육학의 협력연구, 내적동기와 외적동기의 통합적인 적용, 교사 지도행동 개선을 위한 연수 프로그램의 개발과 적용 연구의 필요성을 논의하였다.
Drawing on the predictions of cognitive evaluation theory, this study examined the student`s perceptions of physical education (PE) teacher`s teaching behavior and their levels of intrinsic motivation toward PE. A total of 475 middle school-aged male and female students completed the questionnaire version of CBAS and the modified Korean version of IMI. Results from MANOVA revealed gender differences in the three indices on intrinsic motivation toward PE with higher scores in males. The Chi(χ)-shaped teaching behavior profile in 14 PE teachers indicated that the teachers emphasized either `instruction-encouragement` or `punishment-control` teaching style. Multiple regression analyses on each of the intrinsic motivation factors revealed that perceived teaching behaviors were significant predictors of studdents` intrinsic motivation toward PE. Specifically, students who perceived their teachers to exibit a teaching style that emphasized instruction and encouragement were higher in their intrinsic motivation. Conversely, perceptions of high frequency of punishment-oriented and controlling behaviors were related to lower levels of intrinsic motivation. Results were discussed in terms of future directions of this line of research.
