영어가 모국어가 아닌 사람이 단어나 문자의 강조를 잘못된 음절에 주게 되면 이해하기 어려워지는 경우를 볼 수 있다. 노래에서도 이런 강세의 중요성이 나타나게 되는데 영어가 모국어가 아닌 보컬들이 정확한 발음으로 노래를 한다 하더라도 원곡 가수와 비교를 했을 때 어색하게 들리는 경우가 많다. 노래에 있어서 명확한 모음과 발음도 중요하지만 명확한 의사 전달을 위해선 강세의 대한 중요성을 간과할 수 없는 부분이다. 이 연구의 목적은 영어 강세법을 연구하여 영어에 대한 적절한 강세를 인지하고, 실제 노래 부르는 상황의 강세 연구를 통해 음악적으로 효과적인 표현에 도움을 줄 수 있는 강세의 보편적인 법칙을 제시하는 것이다. 영어가 모국어인 가수와 영어가 모국어가 아닌 가수가 동일하게 부른 곡들을 비교하여 각 가수가 노래에 어떻게 강세를 주는지 분석하였다. 음악적인 강세와 구어체의 강세를 최대한 일치시키기 위해 작곡가들은 리듬에 맞게 단어 배치를 하는 경우가 많은데, 영어가 모국어가 아닌 사람들이 노래를 부를 때 이런 강세를 무시하고 부르는 경우가 많았다. 따라서 원곡에서 표현하고자 하는 리듬에서 벗어나게 되고 원곡과 비교를 했을 때 상대적으로 노래 표현이 어색하게 들리는 경우가 많다는 결론을 도출하였다.

When a non-native speaker of English speaks with correct vowel pronunciation and gives emphasis to the wrong syllable, it can become difficult to understand the meaning of the word or sentence. Even in singing, the importance of stress is prominent when a non-native singer sings an English song and it often sounds awkward when compared to the original singer. Clear vowels and pronunciations are important in singing, but the importance of stress cannot be ignored as an important element of clear communication. The research will analyze how each singer strengthens the song by comparing the singers whose native language is English and singers whose English is not their native language. In order to make the most of the musical intensity and the colloquial accent, composers often place words according to their rhythm. When non-native speakers sing songs, they often ignore such accents. Therefore, when the rhythm expressed is different from the original song, the song expressions seem to be relatively awkward in many cases.
