Engraving is the art of engraving characters on seals of various seals. 刻(engraving) is the first means of expression of opinion in human history, and it is a trace of human expression of original thought before drawing or writing. In the case of China, from the early days of the Warring States period, when commerce and industry developed rapidly, engraving of phosphorus played an important role in the distribution economy. The emergence of 印章(seal) is closely related to the economy and politics of the ancient society. Seals were originally made for the practical purpose of sealing things or carrying them on the body as a symbol of trust rather than as a work of art. became The history of engraving in Korea is long. The carvings already seen in comb earthenware, Ulju petroglyphs and Cheonjeon-ri petroglyphs of the Neolithic and Bronze Ages are one of the primitive plastic arts. In terms of artistry, engraving is a visual art with a unique aesthetic that expresses the spirit and emotions of the engraver. In East Asia, engravings with pure formativeness, such as calligraphy and painting, are said to be the flower and essence of oriental art. The important point of the literary exhibition performed by the literary scholars is the art of expressing the artist´s sexuality, just like calligraphy and painting. Therefore, engraving is the result of a combination of literary knowledge and literary character, that is, the academic (history, literature, painting) discipline of a engraving artist, while many calligraphers and writers draw their own paintings and crafts. will be. In addition, it is a comprehensive art that is equipped with an art system that combines the sense of writing in technique (literal law, writing law, 刀法, 章法) and the formative sense of 刀味. In terms of socio-cultural value, the engravings, which had seals for practical purposes of social life, are acting as cultural and artistic contents belonging to the visual arts that have been changed from the function of the new sign to the function of art as the writers directly engraved and appreciated them. First, from the cultural point of view of ancient engraving, it is considered to be an engraving of 寫intention that exhibited sensitivity and creativity as a pure artistic status. Second, engraving art is regarded as a comprehensive art that extends not only to calligraphy, literature, and prints, but also to design and architectural styles. Third, it is the content of formative visual art that is shared by the art world and the public for value creation. Engraving can illuminate the lifestyles, social structures, rituals and thoughts of people at the time in the space of Bangchon. It is believed that it has established itself as a comprehensive art with very strong craftsmanship by incorporating an independent and aesthetic art genre through the diversity of expression forms and artistry.
