본 연구는 청각장애인의 내러티브인 당사자의 목소리를 통해 청각장애인 선교에 대해 조망하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 우선 한국교회 는 장애에 대한 인식의 변화와 함께 청각장애에 대한 새로운 이해가 필요하다. 장애를 차별의 조건이 아니라 이해의 도구로 접근해야 한다. 다음으로 청각장애인 선교와 관련된 접근은 청각장애인을 수어를 통한 새로운 문화공동체의 하나인 농문화 공동체로 이해하는 것이다. 왜냐하 면, 이들은 또 다른 언어공동체이기 때문이다. 그리고 청각장애인 선교적 접근은 청각장애인을 사회환경적 구조로 인해 ‘할 수 없다’는 대상(객체)의 입장에서 삶의 주체(당사자)로서 접근하여 프로그램과 서비스를 그들의 욕구로부터 출발하여야 한다. 마지막으로, 교회는 지역사회를 기반으로 기독교적 사랑을 실천하고 우리를 필요로 하는 이웃에 대한 사회적 책임을 감당해야 한다. 특히 청각장애인에 대한 선교적 실천은 선택이 아닌 연대적 책임과 의무라는 사실을 인식하고 교회의 사명으로서 접근해야 한다.

This study looks at mission with the deaf based on case study through the narrative of the deaf. To this purpose, first, the Korean church needs a new understanding about deafness, along with a change in the perception of disability. Disability should be approached as a means of understanding, not as a condition of discrimination. Next, the missionary approach should understand the deaf as a new cultural community that uses sign language as another language. In addition, the missionary approach to the deaf should be done for the deaf people as the subjects of their lives, not as objects that ‘disable’ due to the social structure. Thus, social programs and services for the deaf must meet their needs. Finally, the church should base its practices on the love of God and take on social responsibility for the neighbors that need our help. In particular, the missionary practice for the deaf should be approached as the mission of the church, recognizing the fact that it is not an option but a duty.
