Bi Shu-Min’s “Corolla Virus” depicts various human needs through several people living in a space called ‘YAN CITY(YAN SHI)’, where the highly contagious coronavirus is prevalent. In the same disaster situation as the outbreak of Corolla Virus in the work, several characters carry out various forms of thinking and actions to satisfy different needs. And in the process of desire developing into thinking and action, egoism acts as a major factor in value judgment. Accordingly, this study analyzes Bi Shu-Min‘s “Corolla Virus” from the perspective of egoism to identify various needs projected into human life in the work and examines changes in thinking and behavior. And it also analyzes the egoism that exists at the base of the change. The egoism that appears in “Corolla Virus” is largely divided into extreme egoism, family egoism, and ethical egoism. extreme egoism stems from the public’s anxiety due to the government‘s opaque disclosure of information, and begins with the instinctive desire of self-protection and survival and is expressed in the form of hoarding. And family egoism begins with the biological desire to preserve and maintain its genes and develops into an act in which the safety and health of Chen Yu-Xiong families such as Chen Tian-Guo and Su Ya are prioritized. Finally, ethical egoism is revealed through Luo Wei-Zhi. Luo Wei-Zhi shows a transcendent form of egoism by making decisions that consider the needs of others, Li Yuan and Su Ya, while also pursuing their own identification and human needs.
