이 논문은 영화 <4월 이야기>의 스토리텔링을 연구하는 것을 목적으 로 한다. 이 작품은 러닝 타임이 일반적인 극장 영화에 비해 매우 짧고, 작품의 중심 소재에 대한 명확한 논의가 필요하다. 그리고 일반적인 영 화의 스토리텔링 단계와는 매우 다른 지점에서 이야기가 진행되고, 결말 에 대한 해석에 다른 견해가 있으며, 프로덕션디자인 스토리텔링이 다른 감독과 작품에 많은 영향을 주는 것은 물론 영화의 특정 시퀀스가 전체 의 스토리텔링과는 별개로 존재한다는 점 때문에 연구의 필요성이 있다. 연구 결과 이 작품은 스토리텔링의 비중과 로그 라인 분석 등을 통해 영 화 전체의 소재가 주인공의 첫사랑에 관한 이야기임을 확인할 수 있었 다. 그리고 영화의 도발적 사건과 드라마틱한 상황을 분석한 결과, 작품 의 도발적 사건과 이에 따른 드라마틱한 상황이 일반적인 영화와는 다르 게 작품의 거의 후반부에 발생하고 있었다. 이러한 특수한 이야기 구성 방식은 관객이 이야기를 이해하는 것에도 영향을 미쳐 ‘처음’에 관한 이 야기가 부각되는 결과로 나타났다. 이 작품은 명백한 닫힌 결말의 구조 를 갖추고 있으나, 관객의 욕망이라는 관점에서는 열린 결말로 해석할 여지도 있으며, 이런 해석에는 영화의 짧은 러닝 타임이 영향을 미친다. 또한, 이 작품은 의상, 색상 등의 프로덕션디자인 스토리텔링이 주인공이 원하는 것을 강조하거나, 좋아하는 대상을 갈망하는 표현으로 쓰이거나, 열정을 드러내기 위해 사용된다. 한편, 이 작품의 영화 속 영화 시퀀스는 일본의 역사에 대한 이해가 없는 타국 관객에게 문화적 할인 현상을 발 생시킬 수 있다.

This paper is to research the storytelling of a film titled <April Story>. As a research subject, this film was selected for several different reasons. It has a shorter running time than ordinary theater films, an accurate discussion is required on the film materials, and its story proceeds at very different points from the ordinary film storytelling stages. Besides, there are different views or interpretations on the ending, its production design storytelling has a lot of influence on other film directors and their works, and there exists a specific sequence in the film aside from the entire storytelling. When analyzing the log-line and weight of storytelling, this study found out that the overall subject matter of this work is a story about first love. When analyzing inciting incidents and dramatic circumstances of this work, this study discovered that both the inciting incidents and the related dramatic circumstances mostly occur in the second half of this work, unlike ordinary films. Such a unique way of composing a story also affects the audience's understanding of the story, further resulting in the story about 'the beginning' being outstanding. This work has a structure of a clearly closed ending, but it can be interpreted as an open ending in terms of the audience's desire. In addition, it was found that production design storytelling such as costumes and colors is used to emphasize what the protagonist wants and longs for, or shows passion. On the other hand, the film sequence in this work may cause a cultural discount phenomenon to the audience.
