정은궐의 􋺷영원의 사자들􋺸은 판타지 로망스이다. 판타지 로망스는 로망스의 플롯에 판타지 요소를 사용하는 소설의 하위 장르이다. 저자는 자신을 문학 작 가가 아닌 로망스 작가로 선언할 만큼 전통적인 문학적 규범으로부터 자유로운 글쓰기를 지향한다. 􋺷영원의 사자들􋺸은 이승의 인간인 나영원과 저승의 사자인 갑1 사이의 사랑과 운명, 그리고 연화로부터 나영원에 이르기까지 33년을 주기 로 환생하는 여인들에게 반복되는 죽음과 공포의 이야기를 다룬다. 살아있는 인 간인 연화는 7세 때 저승에서 사자들을 만나고, 특별히 갑1을 운명적으로 사랑 하게 된다. 그러나 인간과 저승사자 간의 인연은 금기사항으로 연화는 갑1을 잊 지 않으면 사후에 저승으로 들어갈 수가 없게 설정된다. 연화는 마음속에서 갑1 을 잊지 않기로 다짐한 결과로, 이승에서의 폭력에 의한 죽음에도 불구하고 매 번 저승으로 가지 못하고 즉시 환생하게 된다. 전생이 경험한 죽음의 공포와 갑 1에 대한 운명적 사랑에 대한 기억은 나영원의 꿈을 통해 소환되고, 사자들의 도움으로 33년의 저주는 풀리게 된다. 판타지 로망스로서 􋺷영원의 사자들􋺸은 예술적 상상력을 통해 한 인간의 간절한 마음이 이승과 저승이라는 시공간을 넘어 이루어내는 사랑의 이야기를 초현실적으로 구현한다.

Young-won’s Angels of Death is a fantasy romance which portrays a romantic story with fantasy elements as a subgenre of fiction. It deals with the issues of ‘death and horror’ as well as ‘love and fate’ focusing on Na Young-won’s relationship with Gab 1, one of the higher-ranking angels of death. The relationship originates from Yeon-hwa’s unexpected visit to the next world and falling in love with Gab 1. Yeon-hwa is the original past life of Na Young-won more than 1,000 years ago, and experiences death in horror at the age of 33 waiting for the coming of Gab 1. However, Yeon-hwa’s soul reincarnates into a new baby girl’s body repeatedly every 33 years right after each and every horrible death with the memory of previous life. The curse is due to her resistance to forgetting Gab 1. Her soul was set up to be accepted to the next world only if she abandons the prohibited relationship between her and Gab 1. The fantasy romance artistically illustrates an ardent longing for love beyond time and space.
