As pine mushroom market size is about 800 billion won in the world, global trade is being increased. And in Korea, the import volume of Chinese pine mushroom is coming to maximum 10 billion won. Caused by this situation, quarantine on insect pests of pine mushroom was being important. For this problem, we tried to analyze DNA barcodes on Diptera inhabiting in pine mushroom. In this study, 253 fly individuals from Korean mushroom and 13 from Chinese one were used. Diversity on species level was analyzed based on 2.0% threshold approach. In a results, total of 23 species of six families were detected. Among them, 19 species of six families were found from Korean mushroom and four species were from Chinese one. Korean and Chinese faunistic compositions by DNA barcoding were quitely different from each other. Therefore, we consider that quarantine inspection on Diptera of pine mushroom is more reinforced, and monitoring on the diptera species from imported Chinese pine mushroom is needed.

The blueberry gall midge, Dasineura oxycoccana (Johnson), was recently invaded into Korea, which causes serious damage to blueberries. In the blueberry production regions, the gall midge affects most blueberry varieties, Vaccinium spp., such as rabbiteye and highbush blueberries, causing substantial yield loss by damaging flower and leaf buds. Last year we investigated and collected the midges in the blueberry farms from Korea and USA (New Jersey and Georgia). To confirm inter- and intra-specifc variations of D. oxycoccana, we tested COI DNA barcode using 180 collective individuals plus 37 GenBank references including other Dasineura species. As results, we found the same haplotype from 126 individuals in Korea, USA, and Canada. Most of the remaining haplotypes were closely related to the former, whereas there were 7 unique haplotypes genetically very distant from the major haplotype. Especially, the two haplotypes in Cheonan, Korea, were genetically farthest from the major, and the existence of two different species in New Jersey and Sunchang were confirmed. We would present haplotype diversity and geographic relationships of D. oxycoccana.

In a faunistic survey for the family Coleophoridae (Lepidoptera: Gelechioidea) on Is. Yeonpyeong and Is. Baengnyeong in 2010 and 2006, respectively, eleven species of Coleophora were recognized. Among them, three species; Coleophora adjunctella Hodgkinson, C. chenopodii Oku, and C. kurokoi Oku are reported for the first time from Korea. For the newly recorded species, taxonomical remarks and illustration of adults and genitalia are given.

Six unknown hitchhiking moths intercepted at the Korean port of entry were detected from an international vessel by the personnels of the International Plant-Quarantine Accreditation Board (IPAB) in 2012. Among them, there was a noctuid moth, Noctua pronuba (Linnaeus), which is a quarantine pest in Korea. Other five species are three erebids (Lophocampa maculata Harris, Lemyrarhodo philodes (Hampson), and Trigonodes cephise (Cramer)), one sphingid (Hippotion rosetta Swinhoe), and one zygaenid (Histia flabellicornis nigrinus Jordan). They are mostly distributed in the subtropical regions. In addition to these hitchhiking moths from the vessel, other interception records from inanimate pathways are provided here on the bases of Pest Information System, Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA). Thus, it is necessary to monitor inanimate pathways and to adopt comprehensive border surveillance system, in order to protect further invasions of alien insect species.

This study was conducted to estimate temperature effect on the hatching success of Asian Gypsy Moth (AGM), Lymantria dispar (Linne) in different temperature conditions (15, 20, 25, 30, and 35℃). The egg masses were collected during winter season and stored in cold room (4℃). The hatching rate was evaluated from the number of hatched caterpillar for period of 50 days. As a result, hatching rates were 89.80, 92.94, 95.51, 62.02, and 18.35% at 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35℃, respectively. The optimal temperature on the hatching success of AGM egg might be 20~25℃.

        I) Surveillance for subtropical-moths through the inanimate pathway in the Korean Peninsula was investigated during the period from 2006 to the present using the light trap in Is. Baekryeong-do and Is. Daecheong-do. A total of 438 species belonging to 27 families of Lepidoptera were identified. Among them, two species of subtropical -moths, including Ischyja manlia Cramer and Spirama sp. belong to the family Noctuidae were occurred at Is. Daecheong-do in the west coast. II) We are conducting an investigation into subtropical-moths detected from a vessel arrived in Yeosu sea port from this year. Among them, one species was identified into Histia flabellicornis Fabricius belong to the family Zygaenidae. These moths are mainly distributed in the subtropical area from the southern part of China to Indonesia. It is very likely that subtropical-moths have invaded in the Korean Peninsula through the inanimate pathway such as typhoons and/or vessels. To resolve this question, further researches should be done to determine the pathway by which these subtropical-moths occurred in Korea.

Blossom midge, Contarinia maculipennis Felt (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) is originated in Southeast Asia and has been present in Japan, USA and Hawaii. Recently, C. maculipennis was intercepted in Japan, USA and Netherlands with orchid flowers imported from Southeast Asian countries. This pest is designated as quarantine pest in Korea because of its potential damages to vegetables and ornamental plants in case when this pest introduced in Korea. C. maculipennis has known to feed inside unopened flower buds, causing deformed, discolored buds and blossoms. And, in severe infestations, cause premature bud or blossom drop. In Korea, similar damage symptoms have been reported in western orchids which mighty be caused by C. maculipennis from Mid-2000s, especially on D. phalaenopsis. An official recognition to C. maculipennis was given in 2007. And, the occurrences of C. maculipennis and its damages were investigated mainly on D. phalaenopsis in 2008~2009. We emphasize caution about recognizing the possibilities that C. maculipennis could infest flower buds of an orchids and carry out management strategies for this pest in the future.

In Korea, the backgrounds of predatory mite introduction are increase of the higher income level and the consumer interested in environmental-friendly agricultural products. So, the studies on pest control with natural enemy instead of pesticide have been increased. In early days of natural enemy research in Korea, domestic natural enemies as like Amblyseius womersleyi Evans were attempted for control of spider mites in orchard and greenhouse. As the number of crops and the cultivation area in greenhouse were rapidly increased till now, it is preferred not to find and mass-rear dominant species but introduce the natural enemy species from other countries which are suitable under greenhouse environment (high temperature, low humidity). Chilean predatory mite (Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot) was a first natural enemy mite imported from other country and utilized for control of two-spotted spider mite in strawberry greenhouse. The attempt was successful and use of Chilean predatory mite was expanded national widely. After then, pest control by natural enemy has been increased and several companies which produce and sell natural enemies commercially were established. The government recommends the policy, the environmental-friendly agriculture without pesticide for safe and high-quality agricultural product, and gives financial support to farmers. The predatory mites to allow import into Korea in present are 4 species : Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot, Amblyseius cucumeris (Oudemans), Hypoaspis aculeifer (Canestrini), and Amblyseius swirskii Athias-Henriot. These predatory mite natural enemies are mainly included in Phytoseiidae (Acari) and introduced and sold to control small animal pest as like spider mites and thrips.
