근래 들어 급속한 산업화와 그에 따른 무분별한 개발 등으로 생태계의 파괴가 빠른 속도로 진행되고 이와 같은 생태계의 파괴는 많은 생물종의 서식지 박탈로 이어져 수많은 종이 멸종되거나 멸종위기에 처해 있다. 민주지산지역 역시 예외가 아니어서 1992년 영동군은 상기 자연생태지역에 종합관광휴양지 건설(동신레저 주식회사)을 추진하고 있다. 이를 위해 6,000,000m2에 이르는 산림보존지역을 스키장과 골프장을 위한 개발촉진지역 및 관광휴양지역으로 용도변경한 바 있다. 상기의 종합관광휴양지 개발로 인한 자연생태계 파괴가 조류 분포에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 개발 이전의 민주지산의 조류상을 선행 조사하였다. 민주지산 일대에서 관찰된 조류는 총 9목 23과 41종 229개체로 민주지산에서 9목 21과 39종 158개체, 석기봉에서 5목 16과 27종 71개체가 각각 조사되었다. 동고비가 우점종이었으며 다음으로 진박새, 쇠솔새, 박새, 쇠박새, 횐배지빠귀의 순으로 우세하였다. 천연기념물 조류로는 새매, 붉은배새매 및 소쩍새가 관찰되었고 희귀종 청호반새도 출현하였다. 종다양성 지수가 3.381로 이 값은 지리산(3.400) 이외의 타 지역보다 높았다. 민주지산, 석기봉, 삼도봉 일대는 인적이 드물고 환경오염이 적어 타 지역에 비하여 조류의 서식이 많은 지역이다. 또한 태백산맥과 소백산맥이 연결되는 생물지지 학적으로 매우 중요한 곳으로 조류를 비롯한 많은 동물의 이동로이다. 상기 지역과 연결되어 있는 국립공원 덕유산에 이미 건설되었거나 건설 예정인 각종 스포츠 레저시설로 생태계 훼손이 심각하게 우려되는 이 때 민주지산 일대의 대규모 개발은 자제되어야 할 것이다.

Hitherto 44 species belonging to 19 families of spiders have been reported at Ulreung-do on the East Sea. Korea. The authors have investigated spider fauna, through out the Ulreung-do, during July 25, August 3. 1975 and July 30, August 7, 1980. The foundings were as followings. 1) In this report, 132 species of 74 genera, including 3 undetermined species, belonging to 25 families of spiders are tabulated by the aid of published data and collections of the authors. Eighty six species are added to the fauna, of which 2 species are new to Korea. as follows, Porrhomma montanum Jackson. 1918, Clubiona neglecta O.P. Cambridge, 1862. The spider fauna of Ulreung-do includes 18 nothern species , 8 southern species . 7 cosmopolitan species and 84 Palaearctic temperate species . The predominant species are Araneids. Thridiids, especially Cyclosa japonica Boes. et Str. are found in large numbers all over this island. This paper is given for the first time as a list of spiders from Chuncheon area, in land of kang-weon-do, mid-eastern part of Korea. Materials were collected during the early August 1972 by the Biological members of the chuncheon girl's high school, in chuncheon area. In addition to this materials collected by paik and Nam kung during July 1973 at Mt. Sam-ak which is located on south-west of chuncheon were examined. 1) In this paper, tile authors record 105 species of spiders belonging to 22 families, including 4 undetermined species from chuncheon area. 2) The followings are newly added to the spider fauna in Korea. a) Curstulina sp. b) Zelotes asiaticus(BOES. et STR.) 3) These materials are not sufficient for general discussion of the spider fauna of chuncheon area, however, an outline can be summarized as follow: 21 northern species 5 southern species 3 cosmopolitan species 72 plaearctic species
