The Gwangneung arboretum, affiliated to the Korea Forest Research Institute, was established in 1987 and it became the Korea National Arboretum (KNA) in May 24, 1999. The entomological collection of KNA currently holds a total of 510,365 specimens of 6,849 species including more than 330 type specimens of Lepidoptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, and Coleoptera are deposited. As the results of recent systematic studies by KNA entomologists, 67 new species were described, and 108 species were newly recorded from Korea and other countries. Not only we have conducted taxonomic studies but also have broaden our research boundary to natural enemy surveys for pine wilt disease vectors, plant and insect interaction, and exotic insect species monitoring. In this presentation, we would like to briefly introduce current entomological researches of KNA in the hope of future collaborations with other entomologists.

Pseudisobrachium is one of the biggest genera with 190 species from the world including one extinct species from France. In Korea, only one species, P. koreana Lim, has been recorded. The ecological information of Pseudisobrachium is poorly studied, however, it was recorded that Pseudisobrachium species are found associated with various ants in several previous studies. As results of taxonomy studies on the Korean bethylids, a new species of Pseudisobrachium is discovered based on one female specimen which was collected from Cheongsong county (Gyeongbuk province) by Malaise trap in 2008. This is the first record of female of the genus in Korea. A taxonomic discussion on the genus Pseudisobrachium, diagnosis and diagnostic characteristics of the new species are provided.

Host relationships between insects and plants are one of the major factor driving evolutionary diversification within terrestrial ecosystems. Beetles (Coleoptera) are the most diverse and species-rich group of insects, and a robust, time-calibrated phylogeny is fundamental to understanding macroevolutionary processes that underlie their diversity. Recently, many studies have been carried out about the relationships among those taxa according to the attention on co-evolution of phytophagous insects and their hosts, however, most of them focused on special taxa (family or genus level) of insects. In this presentation, we especially reviewed current trends of studies on interactions between coleopteran insects and host plant in the world and Korea for proposals of future studies.
