In thermal cutting process, gas flow injected from the nozzle has a significant effect on the cutting materials. The gas flow is difficult to observe gases are transparent, therefore, in this study, Schlieren method was adopted to visualize the gas flow inside the kerf. The kerf shape was inserted between two slices of transparent glass in order to imitate the real cutting environment. In order to get the flow characteristics, a high speed camera was equipped and the image processing was applied to compare the before and after injection images. As a result, the method for visualizing gas flow was successfully developed and also expected to be applied to the analysis of purging gas in various welding environments.
The modification of Silicotungstic acid (STA) was done by Melamine and Mixed matrix membranes from the Melamine modified Silico tungstic acid (M-STA) particles were prepared for the pervaporation dehydration of Water -Isopropanol (IPA) mixture. The characterization of the membranes were done by FTIR, SEM, EDS AFM XRD, and contact angle measurements. The M-STA loaded composite membranes showed improved pervaporation performance in comparison to the virgin membrane. The 8 wt% M-STA loaded (M8-MSTA) membrane gave an optimum pervaporation performance having flux = 0.36 kg/m2h, separation factor 485.6 for 20 wt% water -isopropanol feed composition at 60 0C was observed.
Blended membranes of hydrophilic polymers poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(vinyl amine) (PVAm) were prepared and crosslinked with glutaraldehyde. The characterization of membranes were done by using FTIR, XRD, DSC, SEM and swelling study. MB1.5 membrane was the best one in all since it exhibited higher separation index. By using blend membrane (MB1.5), the flux through a 65-mm film increased from 0.01 to 0.47 kg/m2h at an acetonitrile/water feed ratio between 20/80 and 5/95 w/w at 30°C while separation factor increased from the 5055 to 100.84 attributed to the higher hydrophilicity of blend membranes. On comparison of pervaporation data with water-acetonitrile vapor-liquid equilibrium data it was observed that the membrane acted as third phase to effectively break the azeotropes.
Bicuculline is one of the most commonly used GABAд eceptor antagonists in electrophysiological research. Because of its poor water solubility, bicuculline quaternary ammonium salts such as bicuculline methiodide (BMI) and bicuculline methbromide are preferred. However, a number of studies have shown that BMI has non-GABAд eceptor-mediated effects. The substantia gelatinosa (SG) of the trigeminal subnucleus caudalis (Vc) is implicated in the processing of nociceptive signaling. In this study, we investigated whether BMI has non-GABA receptor-mediated activity in Vc SG neurons using a whole cell patch clamp technique. SG neurons were depolarized by application of BMI (20M) using a high Cℓ⁻ipette solution. GABA ( 30-100μM) also induced membrane depolarization of SG neuron. Although BMI is known to be a GABAд receptor antagonist, GABA-induced membrane depolarization was enhanced by co-application with BMI. However, free base bicuculline (fBIC) and picrotoxin (PTX), a GABAд and GABAс receptor antagonist, blocked the GABA-induced response. Furthermore, BMI-induced membrane depolarization persisted in the presence of PTX or an antagonist cocktail consisting of tetrodotoxin (Nα+ nnel blocker),AP-5 (NMDA receptor antagonist), CNQX (non-NMDA receptor antagonist), and strychnine (glycine receptor antagonist). Thus BMI induces membrane depolarization by directly acting on postsynaptic Vc SG neurons in a manner which is independent of GABAд receptors. These results suggest that other unknown mechanisms may be involved in BMI-induced membrane depolarization.
This study is focused on the evaluation of growth parameters, total polyphenol content (TPC), chlorophyll content as well as the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhydrazyl) free radical scavenging activity of young barley seedling (YBS) affected by elicitation. Salicylic acid (SA), methyl jasmonate (MJ), amino acid liquid fertilizer (ALF) and microbial metabolism activator (MMA) were used. Elicitation was conducted for two times and various concentrations were used in this study. The result revealed that, MJ 1 ml/L treated-YBS gave the longest seedling length of 1.33 cm, followed by the ones treated with SA 1.38 mg/L and ALF 2 ml/L, respectively. ALF 3 ml/L treatment gave the highest fresh weight of 10 seedlings, followed by MJ 5 ml/L and SA 13.8 mg/L treatment with 1.56 g, 1.55 g and 1.53 g respectively. SA 138.12 mg/L elicitor treated-YBS gave the highest Chl a, Chl b content of 8.57 μg/mg and 3.83 μg/mg, respectively while the highest carotenoid content was found in MJ ml/L treatment with 1.62 μg/mg. Among elicitor treated-YBS, SA showed better TPC. The highest TPC was found in SA 1.38 mg/L treatment with 18.82 mg/g TAE. Likewise, SA 1.38 mg/L showed the highest DPPH free radical scavenging activity among all the treatments. However, the lowest TPC was found in ALF 1ml/L treated-YBS with 9.46 mg/g TAE, which was even lower than the control (14.31 mg/g TAE).
