        The aim of this study was to develop the tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum Gaertn.) sprouts and to clarify the biological and chemical characteristics of the sprouts. At 7 days after seeding, hypocotyls length and thickness, and root length of tartary buckwheat sprouts were 137 cm, 1.4 mm, and 12.6 cm, respectively. Fresh weight, dry weight, and moisture contents of an individual sprout at 7 days after seeding were 202 mg, 5.4 mg, and 95.3%, respectively. Protein content in tartary buckwheat sprouts was 23.0% which relatively higher than that of seeds, while lipid and ash contents were 3.5% and 5.3%. Among 7 minerals, the content of phosphorus showed the highest level (1,383.5 mg/100 g), while the contents of sodium and potassium were 1,197.5 mg/100 g and 1,106 mg/100 g, respectively. The contents of other minerals were Mg (795.5 mg/100 g), Ca (149 mg/100 g), Zn (16.4 mg/ 100 g), and Fe (14.7 mg/100 g). The rutin content of tatary buckwheat sprouts including root parts was the highest (5644.9 mg/100 g) at 7 days after seeding. The concentration of catechin derivatives in tartary buckwheat sprouts was high in order of catechin (59 mg/100 g), epicatechin gallate (47 mg/100 g), and epicatechin (14 mg/100 g).

        쑥갓(Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) 꽃으로부터 암 예방활성 성분을 가진 2종의 화합물을 분리하여 다양한 spectral data를 종합한 결과, sesquiterpene lactone계인 eudesmanolide의 일종으로 밝혀졌으며 , compound 1과 2는 각각 douglanine과 reynosin인 것으로 동정되었다. 이 화합물들은 쓱갓에서는 처음으로 분리 보고되는 화합물이며, 세포독성을 측정한 결과, 두 화합물 모두 3종의 인체암 세포주에 대하여 비교적 강한 활성을 나타내었다.

        The biosorption abilities of different parts of waste brown seaweeds and their derivatives to remove heavy metals(Cd, Zn, Pb, Cu, Fe, Ni, Mn) from waste water were evaluated. The two parts of waste brown seaweeds (Undaria pinnatifida) were stems and sporophyls, and the brown seaweed derivatives were alginic fibers, active carbon added alginate(AC-alginate) and dealginate. The abilities of the sporophyls to adsorb the heavy metal ions were higher than those of stems, and those of alginates were slightly higher than those of dealginate in single ion solution. With decreasing the size of biosorbents, the velocity and the amount of adsorption increased. The abilities of alginate to remove the heavy metal ions increased in multi-ion solutions by adding active carbon to alginate. The selectivity of these biosorbents(alginate, AC-alginate) to lead ion was highest and to manganese ion was lowest.

        Industrial waste water which was highly loaded by halogenide phenols was photooxidized by laboratory-scale photooxidation of these organic impurities in the presence of aerotropic and titaniumdioxide as photocatalyst. The disappearance of organic compounds was determined as a function of the irradiation time. Some contaminants such as 2-chlorophenol, 2-bromophenol, 3-bromophenol, 4-bromophenol, 2,4-dibromophenol and 2,6-dibromophenol were photodegraded separately to obtain information on the reaction rates, reactivities, and reaction mechanisms of the photooxidation, and on the stoichiometric correlation between organic reactant and inorganic products concentration in the course of the photocatalytic photoreaction.

        Toxic Mastoparan B(MP-B) which is purified from the venom of the hornet Vespa basalis is a cationic amphiphilic tetradecapeptide. MP-B and its Ala-substituted analogues were synthesized by solid phase method and the toxic peptide-membrane interactions were examined by circular dichroism(CD) spectra, fluorescence spectra, and leakage abilities in phospholipid membranes. In the presence of phospholipid vesicles, synthetic MP-B and its analogues formed amphiphilic α-helical structures, but in the buffer solution, those exhibited random coil conformation as measured by CD. Fluorescence spectra of MP-13 and its analogues which indicated the binding affinity of peptide on phospholipid vesicles showed that the replacement of Lys at position 2 and 11 with Ala caused a remarkable effect in the blue shift and that at position 2, in the leakage ability of the peptide.

        The rates of photodegradation, reactivities, and mechanisms of photooxidation for the aqueous solution containing with halogen derivatives of aliphatic hydrocarbons have been discussed with respect to the kinds of photocatalysts, concentration of photocatalytic suspensions, strength of radiant power , time of illumination, changes of pH of substrate solution, wavelength of radiation, and pressure of oxygen gas saturated in the solution. These aqueous solutions suspended with 0.5 gL^-1 TiO_2 powder have been photodecomposed in the range of 100 and 93.8% per 1 hour if it is illuminated with wavelength (λ≥ 300nm) produced from Xe-lamp(450W). The photocatalytic abilities have been increased in the order of Fe_2O_3 < CdS < CeO_2 < Y_O2_3 < TiO_2, and rates of photodegradation for the solution have maximum values in the condition of pH 6∼8 and 3 psi-O_2 gL^-1. These rates for the photooxidation per 1 hour were dependent on the size of molecular weight and chemical bonding for organic halogen compounds and the rates of photodegradation were increased in the order of C_2H_5Br < CH_2Br_2 < C_5H_11Cl C_2H_4Cl_2 < trans-C_2H_2Cl_2 < cis-C_2H_2Cl_2 The t_1/2 and t_99% for these solutions were 5∼21 and 40∼90 minutes, respectively, and these values were coincided with initial reaction kinetics(r_0). It was found that reaction of photodegradation has the pseudo first-order kinetics controlled by the amount of h^+_VB diffused from a surface of photocatalysts.

        In marine transportation of bulk cargoes such as crude oil. ore, coal etc., a lot of full form ship which have poor manoeuvrability were presented in many countries. Since ship manoeuvrability depends upon many parameters namely hydrodynamic derivatives, interference factors etc., as external forces, it is of great importance that we investigate these values of parameters on analysis of manoeuvrability. In this paper, we investigated and analyzed interaction coefficients among hull-propeller-rudder for a full form ship by captive model test in circulating water channel, and then compared with experimental results by PMM test. A tanker model ship which has 0.83 as block coefficient and MMG mathematical models were used in this experiment. Almost same tendencies were found in qualitative analysis, even though more serial experiments were demanded in quantitative analysis.

        In the present trends at which vessels would be supersizedly designed for adapting special cargoes in order for effective controls of logistics in marine transportation, it brings poor manoeuvrability of ships and makes environmental or economical loss seriously due to accidents of a large scale at sea. International Maritime Organization adopted manoeuvring standards and also recommended manoeuvring booklets for ship operators recently. We attempted to find variation of hydrodynamic derivatives when a bare hull was fitted with propeller and rudder, or propeller only by captive model test in the circulating water channel. On comparing experimental results with theoretical values derived from equations, almost same tenden-cies were found at hull-propeller-rudder and hull-propeller situations. Interactions with rudder displayed well at large drift angles.
