        The use of mechanical treatment (MT) for preparing solid refuse fuel (SRF) using municipal solid waste has been growing in Korea. One of the problems with using this treatment measure is the generation of residual waste from the MT, which will not be contained in the SRF. Most of this waste will be dumped into landfill instead of being used for the production of SRF. Much of the waste will be organic portions originating from food and biodegradable wastes. Consequently, the organic portion dumped into the landfill generates methane gas, which is a strong greenhouse gas. In this paper, the waste from MT was investigated directly at the MT facility located at Su-Do-Kwon landfill site to develop proper treatment measures to avoid disposing of the MT waste in landfill, which is prohibited in Germany and England.

        In this study, the experiment was carried out to produce methane by applying Semi-Continuous Leachate Recirculation Anaerobic Digestion System fed with source separated food waste from school cafeteria. There were two systems and each system consisted of a bioreactor and a leachate tank. Each bioreactor had a screen near the bottom of the reactor. 2L of Separated leachate was collected to the leachate tank each day by using a tubing pump and the leachate from the leachate tank was pumped to the bioreactor at the upper of the bioreactor. Through this circulation, the leachate having high concentration of VFAs was supplied to the bioreactor. At the beginning of the experiment, food waste/inoculum anaerobic sludge volume ratio was 2:8 that is 9g VS/L of OLR(Organic Loading Rate). Feeding was conducted every two weeks. Initial conditions of bioreactor was 30g VS/2・week and 33g VS/2・week were fed to bioreactor A and bioreactor B, respectively. Average biogas yields of the bioreactor were 0.723m³ Biogas/kg VS added in reactor A and 0.648m³ Biogas/kg VS added in reactor B.

        The aerosol number concentration have measured with an aerodynamic particle sizer spectrometer(APS) at Gosan site, which is known as background area in Korea, from January to September 2011. The temporal variation and the size distribution of aerosol number concentration have been investigated. The entire averaged aerosol number concentration in the size range 0.25∼32.0 ㎛ is about 252 particles/㎝3. The number concentration in small size ranges(≤ 0.5 ㎛) are very higher than those in large size ranges, such as, the number concentration in range of larger than 6.5 ㎛ are almost zero particles/㎝3. The contributions of the number concentration to PM10 and/or PM2.5 are about 34%, 20.1% and 20.4% in the size range 0.25∼0.28 ㎛, 0.28∼0.30 ㎛ and 0.30∼0.35 ㎛, respectively, however, the contributions are below 1% in range of larger than 0.58 ㎛. The monthly variations in the number concentration in smaller size range(<1.0 ㎛) are evidently different from the variations in range of larger than 1.0 ㎛, but the variations are appeared similar patterns in smaller size range(<1.0 ㎛), also the variations in range of larger than 1.0 ㎛ are similar too. The diurnal variations in the number concentration for smaller particle(<1.0 ㎛) are not much, but the variations for larger particle are very evident. Size-fractioned aerosol number concentrations are dramatically decreased with increased particle size. The monthly differences in the size-fractioned number concentrations for smaller size range(<0.7 ㎛) are not observed, however, the remarkable monthly differences are observed for larger size than 0.7 ㎛.

        최근의 항만 환경에서는 분리된 선석의 통합이 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 통합의 필요성도 높아지고 있다. 그러므로, 기존의 게이트들의 활용이 컨테이너터미널에서의 차량의 체재시간 감소와 차량 통행량 분산 측면에서 검토되어야 한다. 본 연구는 통합게이트와 분리게이트의 운영효과를 분석하였다. 본 연구는 두개의 개별 선석 통합시 게이트 운영의 효율성이 높은 분리게이트시스템을 제안한다.

        Recycling is receiving increasing social attention today as our nation begins to grapple with the significant problems caused by huge amount of municipal solid waste. The topic of recycling is not simple but extremely complicated. This study attempts to provide basic data and policy options for expanding and improving separated collection and recycling in public residential areas, through three case study of apartment housing areas in Taegu Metropolitan City. The main results of this study are summarized as follows. For the significant period of time, all three case areas had in common the extreme difficulty in establishing and operating the system of connecting public participation, collection and storage, transportation, and actual recycling of materials because of a variety of problems involved in this process. Both amounts of and prices for collected materials fluctuated considerably over time mainly due to monthly changes in recyclable home materials and the dynamic nature of recycling markets. Public questionnaire survey revealed the very high level of participation in separated collection, not only because almost all respondents well understood the necessity and importance of recycling, but because they also knew how to do separated collection. But overall activities were rated low and most respondents suggested the enlargement of public participation, the improvement of collection and storage facilities, and collection transportation networks. In particular, most respondents had little experience of using recycled products and used mainly reproduced soap and bathroom tissue. Furthermore, they were considerably unsatisfied with low variety and quality of recycled products, their high prices and low availability in the market. Finally potential policy options and activities for improving separated collection and recycling are suggested.
