The objective of this study was to compare peri-implant bone formation among uncoated (UC), hydroxyapatite (HA), collagen plus hydroxyapatite (CH), and silk plus hydroxyapatite (SH) implant groups. Surface coating was applied using the aerosol deposition method. The morphology of MG63 cells on the implant surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after 8 h cultures on the each of implant groups. After 48 h cultures, MTT assay was performed to compare cell viabilities of each group. Subsequently, a total of 20 implants from each group were installed in the tibia of the rabbits. The animals were sacrificed at 6 weeks after the implant installation. The peri-implant bone formation was evaluated from the histological sections. In the SEM images, SH coating implant showed better attachment of MG63 cells to the implant surface than the other groups. It also showed adequate cell viabilities and peri-implant bone formations compared with other implant groups. From these in vitro and vivo experiments, SH coating can be a possible candidate for the surface treatment of dental implant. This study was supported by a grant from the Next-Generation BioGreen21 Program (Center for Nutraceutical & Pharmaceutical Materials no. PJ009013)

The population of patients with antiplatelet treatment is expanding globally with the rising prevalence of cardiovascular disease and increasing use of percutaneous coronoary interventions. While antiplatelet agents have revolutionized the management of atherosclerotic disease and its thromotic complications, the potential of bleeding remains an inherent risk. Dentists are more likely to stop antiplatelet therapy before dental extraction because they think that the patient is at high risk for bleeding. However stopping or altering antiplatelet therapy may expose such patients to the risk of a thromboembolic event such as thromboembolism, myocardial infarction, or cerebrovascular accidents particulary in patients wirh drug-eluting stent. In this study, we report 3cases that were perfomed dental extraction in patients receiving single or dual antiplatelet therapy without immediate and late postextraction bleeding and reviewed the literature on dental extraction in patients receiving antiplatelet therapy. We concluded that dental extractions may be safely performed in patients receiving single or dual antiplatelet therapy when appropriate local hemostatic measures are taken, thus averting thrombotic risk of temporary antiplatelet discontinuation

This study tried to focus on nontraditional job that has not been studied in terms of the subjects associated with MSDs(Musculoskeletal Disorders). Specifically, dental procedure was the job to be analyzed in this study. An alternative method as well as a traditional method for viewing teeth while performing simulated dental procedures. Four graduated students did both methods(direct view and indirect view) as the subjects in this study. The method based on indirect view used a video camera and monitor to view the teeth. The experiment was conducted five times for each subject. The major findings in this study were as follows; 1) Job speed was increased with the repetitions for both methods, 2) Difference of Neck flexion between direct and indirect methods was statistically siginificant(Neck flexion for indirect method was dramatically decreased), 3) Difference of job speed between direct and indirect methods was statistically significant(Job speed for direct method was faster than that of indirect method), 4) Difference of error rate between direct and indirect methods was statistically significant(error rate for direct method was lower than that of indirect method), 5) Even though indirect method did not provide better performance in terms of job speed and error rate yet, it seemed to need a trade-off between two methods in the future since indirect method provided better working postures than that of direct method.
