The concept of Social Marketing has existed in literature for a long time and is a widely discussed topic. Many scholars have discussed the importance of health related social marketing to bring about positive lifestyle changes and improve health of populations. Marketing efforts and their effectiveness in creating positive changes is quite complex to assess.Social marketing for HIV/AIDS aims to generate awareness, teach people about the disease and influence people’s behavior towards a healthier and better lifestyle. To evaluate how aware people are, what they’ve learnt and how their behavior is influenced by social marketing communications, the authors use a modified version of Kirkpatrick model. This paper aims to ascertain the perceptions and knowledge about HIV/AIDS information disseminated by social marketers using traditional and new media such as Television, hoardings, pole kiosks, bus panels, information panels, radio, social media and celebrity endorsement. The study followed exploratory research design and Survey technique was used.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the meaning and nature of the experiences of adult patients infected with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) when they were teens. Methods: To this end, we analyzed how the experience was interpreted in their daily lives and what its meaning was through the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), a new method of extensive qualitative research in the UK. Among the confirmed HIV infections in teenagers, three people who agreed to participate in the study were men in their 20s and 30s. Participants were interviewed in-depth to collect data and the data was analyzed and interpreted using IPA. Results: As the results, eight themes and 18 sub-themes were derived from meaningful statements through in-depth analysis, and these were categorized into 4 categories. The four categories included ‘shock and despair’, ‘realistic difficulties’, ‘barriers in relationships’, and ‘life transitions’. Conclusion: Adolescent infected persons had support from their families or surroundings, and this positively influenced on the recovery of infected persons. We discussed the implications of the understanding of HIV infection, changes in social perception, the need for correct sex education, and the experiences of teenagers infected with HIV, and suggested follow-up studies.
Introduction: Age-related co-morbidities are common among persons living with chronic Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). However, data are largely absent on the relationship between frailty and incontinence as related to falls—common age-related co-morbidities—among people living with chronic HIV (PLWH).
Methods: To inform hospital-based Occupational Therapy (OT) services for PLWH, we performed a case-control study using extracted data from the electronic medical records of PLWH who had received OT at a large academic hospital. Two-hundred-and-four subjects were included in the final dataset; sixty-eight were cases that reported a fall within the last 12 months, while 136 were controls which were PLWH who had not sustained a fall.
Results: The association between falls and frailty indicated that persons categorized as ‘pre-frail’ with balance deficits were more likely to fall (OR=2.77 [1.18-6.52]). Women who lacked insurance were less likely to fall (OR=0.38 [0.18-0.82]) and (OR=0.29 [0.09-0.88]) respectively. The association between incontinence and falls among PLWH were not statistically significant in a multivariate adjusted regression model (OR=1.38 [.59-3.22]).
Conclusion: Our findings suggest further examination of the person factors of PLWH who are categorized clinically as ‘pre-frail’ or ‘frail’ may improve health outcomes and reduce falls when paired with occupation-based interventions.
Kaposi’s sarcoma is one of the first recognized in HIV infection even patient can develop KS in any disease stage. Moreover, the oral cavity may be the first site of Kaposi’s sarcoma and oral mucosa involvements of KS in HIV positive are very critical because it had a higher death rate than those who having exclusively cutaneous manifestations of the disease. Early detection of KS oral involvement is very important to prevent disease burden. This case is about a 48 years old male who was first discovered Oral Kaposi’s Sarcoma as HIV infection sign. He didn’t notice any other discomfort other than oral mucosa swelling.
HIV/AIDS is an important global issue in human rights and health. The United Nations Refugee Convention clearly addresses to guarantee healthcare rights to refugees at the same level as those provided to citizens. In Korea, the number of refugee applicants has surged since the enactment of the Refugee Act in 2012. Regarding human dignity and human rights, however, there are serious concerns that Korea’s healthcare laws and policies would not fully protect the right of foreigners who are suffering from financial hardship. This paper proposes the ways to improve healthcare equity by comparing the UNAIDS Guidelines to Korean policies on HIV-positive refugee applicants.
Korean medicinal plants were screened for their inhibitory activity against HIV-1 protease. The inhibitory activity of protease was determined by incubating the extracts in reaction mixtures containing protease and substrate His-Lys-Ala-Arg-Val-Leu-(p-NO2-Phe)-Glu-Ala-Nle-Ser-NH2 to perform proteolytic cleavage reactions. In this study the twenty six extracts from medicinal plants were investigated. Of the extracts tested, the extracts from the stem of Morus alba. exhibited the strongest activity with inhibition of 81% at a concentration of 100μg/ml. The extracts of the flower of Saxjfraga stolonifera, and stems of Euonymus japonica and Castanea crenata showed appreciable inhibitory activity (〉50%) against HIV-1 protease at same concentration.
Medicinal plants were screened for the inhibitory effects on human immunodeficiency virus type 1 pretense. Of the extracts tested, the strong inhibitory effects were observed in the acetone extracts of the pericarp of Camellia japonica. Camelliatannin H from the pericarp of C. japonica showed a potent inhibitory activity on HIV-1 pretense. Effects of the extract and compound from leaves of Zanthoxylum piperitum on the enzyme activities were investigated in the liver of bromobenzene-treated rats. The methanol extract and protocatechuic acid isolated from Z. pipetitum reduced the activity of aniline hydroxylase that increased by bromobenzene, while did not affect the activities of aminopyrin N-demethylase and glutathione S-transferase. The extract and protocatechuic acid recovered significantly the activity of epoxide hydrolase decreased by bromobenzene.
