Recent economic and income growth in Korea has caused people to seek healthier and happier lives. Forests are seen as spaces that provide tourism and recreation. The Korea forest service and local governments are developing and designating recreational forests but previous studies on the subject have only covered customer satisfaction and how forests are used. As such, the current study aims to find issues with designation criteria for recreational forests used by Gwangju city in Gyeonggi province and suggest improvements to the system. Site E was deemed the most adequate in evaluations of five candidate site. The criteria used in the evaluations were problematic due to (1) a lack of differentiating power in evaluation items, (2) blanket coverage of score ranges, (3) a lack of additional points for special sites, and (4) unclear evaluation indices. Based on the identified issues, the current study suggests introducing additional points and clearly detailing evaluation indices and items to enhance the evaluation of recreational forest candidate sites.
This study sought to contribute to the revitalization of local economy by developing a natural recreation forest, which is the base of ecotourism recreation, through utilizing forest resources and the natural environment of Gwangju-si. The study conducted a feasibility assessment through on-site surveys such as the suitability of the candidate sites, location analysis, and possibility of damage to the forest, before developing recreation forest sites in Gwangju-si and, based on the result, selected appropriate subject sites. The candidates for this study were 5 forest sites such as one site in the Mokheon-dong area, two in the Docheok-myeon area, and one in the Toechon-myeon area. For this study, the current status of the natural recreation forest was surveyed, its feasibility index and assessment process were investigated, and the local status and related regulations of Gyeonggi-do and Gwangju-si were reviewed. The final subject sites were selected after feasibility assessment utilizing assessment index in order to evaluate the candidate sites. The feasibility assessment was conducted after three separate on-site surveys for each candidate site between October 2018 and January 2019 utilizing “The Feasibility Assessment Criteria for Natural Recreation Forest (Notification 2018-71)” of the Korean Forest Service. The items instrumental to the feasibility assessment were classified into landscape, location, water system, induction of recreation, and development condition; the assessment was made after redefining each item into detailed items. Through this process, the Usan-ri area was selected as the final site for developing natural recreation forest, having obtained more than 100 points according to “The Feasibility Assessment Criteria for Natural Recreation Forest” of the Korean Forest Service. In order to develop natural recreation forest in the Usan-ri area in the future, further discussion is necessary with the relevant departments in consideration of the degree of ecological zoning map.
This study was carried out to investigate the vascular plants of the protected area for forest genetic resource conservation in the National Yonghyeon natural recreation forest. The vascular plants collected 7 times (from February to September 2014) were consist of total 460 taxa; 95 families, 280 genera, 398 species, 3 subspecies, 50 varieties and 9 forms respectively. The 6 taxa of Korean endemic plants and 8 taxa of Korean rare plants were investigated. The floristic regional indicator plants found in this area were 43 taxa comprising 7 taxa of grade Ⅳ, 7 taxa of grade Ⅲ, 12 taxa of grade Ⅱ, 17 taxa of grade Ⅰ. The naturalized plants were 39 taxa, therefore naturalized ratio was 8.5%. 460 taxa listed consist of 189 taxa (41.1%) of edible plants, 155 taxa (33.7%)of medicinal plants, 177 taxa (38.5%) of pasture plants, 52 taxa (11.3%) of ornamental plants, 17 taxa (3.7%)of timber plants, 12 taxa (2.6%) of fiber plants and 3 taxa (0.7%) of industrial plants. The vegetation status of investigated area was comparatively well conserved, but human-induced damage is increasingly greater. Therefore, a long-term monitoring of vascular plants and vegetation movement must become accomplished.
As a part of research to improve the satisfaction of residents on natural recreation forests near/within a city, the recognition of the residents was investigated and evaluated by using five-point Likert scale or frequency analysis for the plan of Mt. Wora natural recreation forest in Jinju city, which included the awareness, importance, preference, and visit intention of the residents. Until now, the personal goals of most visitors at Mt. Wora have been exercising or walking, and showed different from those of visitors at recreation forests with lots of recreational facilities and natural resources. Also the satisfaction was 3.6 and tended to be lower than that at natural recreation forests. The awareness and necessity of natural recreation forest were 3.3 and 4.0 respectively. As a result, the awareness was lower than the necessity though most respondent (84.5%) had already visited and experienced natural recreation forest before this survey. In the importance of facilities and programs, recreation/relaxation places, family accommodation, education, and leisure and sports were 4.2, 3.7, 3.7, and 3.4 respectively. The result shows a feature that the education was equal/similar to the family accommodation and the leisure and sports was over 3.0. In the preference of the types of accommodation and outdoor stay, the frequency of bungalow was 57.4% and higher than others. And then the frequency of autocamping and glamping were 36.5% and 32.9% respectively, and higher than that of camping. It indicates that users prefer more convenient types to typical/common types. The awareness and necessity of forest culture education were 3.1 and 4.1 respectively. The awareness of leisure and sports facilities was 3.2. The preference of adventures (zip line, eco-adventure etc.) was 3.4 and higher than those of others.
This study was carried out to analyze conceptional structure between visitor's satisfaction and loyalty in the national natural recreation forests. The results of this study showed that facility, natural resources and view, staff service of recreation forest had positive effect on visitor's satisfaction. Reservation system, accessibility, and usage fee of recreation forest was not related to visitor's satisfaction. In addition, visitor's satisfaction was found to have positive effect on visitor's loyalty such as revisiting intention and word of mouth. As a result, managers of recreation forest need to enhance visitor's satisfaction, to improve rate of revisiting intention and to incite word of mouth through building management strategy.
