The Stone Pagoda at Mireuksa Temple Site, Iksan, built during the reign of King Moo(武王) of Baekje(百濟), is one of the earliest stone pagodas in Korea. The main feature of the Stone Pagoda at Mireuksa Temple Site, Iksan is the technique of constructing the pagoda body using a technique of constructing stone structures that is difficult to find in China or Silla during the same period. In this study, we inferred that the origin of the Post & lintel construction technique of the stone pagoda of Mireuksaji Temple in Iksan came from the Post & lintel construction Stylobate of Baekje. As a result of comparing the part composition and joining method of the pagoda body and the Post & lintel construction stylobate, it was confirmed that the Post & lintel construction stylobate influenced the construction technique of the pagoda body. In addition, differences in the way the Post & linte construction technique is applied depending on the location of the pagoda body of Stone Pagoda at Mireuksa Temple Site, Iksan were inferred. This study is significant in that it clearly reveals the origin of the unique construction technique of the Stone Pagoda at Mireuksa Temple Site, Iksan.

Although disinfection in drinking water treatment plants provides a safer water supply by inactivating pathogenic microorganisms, harmful disinfection by-products may be formed. In this study, the disinfectant, chlorine, was produced on-site from the electrolysis of salt (NaCl), and the by-products of the disinfection process, bromate and chlorate, were analyzed. The provisional guideline levels for bromate and chlorate in drinking water are 10 μg/L and 700 μg/L, in Korea, respectively. Bromide salt was detected at concentrations ranging from 6.0 ~ 622 mg/kg. Bromate and chlorate were detected at concentrations ranging from non-detect (ND) ~ 45.3mg/L and 40.5 ~ 1,202 mg/L, respectively. When comparing the bromide concentration in the salt to the bromate concentration in the chlorine produced by salt electrolysis, the correlation of bromide to bromate concentration was 0.870 (active chlorine concentration from on-site production: 0.6–0.8%, n=40). The correlation of bromate concentration in the chlorine produced to that in the treated water was 0.866.

Colloid Formation and Migration (CFM) project is being carried out within the Grimsel Test Site (GTS) Phase Ⅵ. Since 2008, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) has joined CFM to investigate the behavior of colloid-facilitated radionuclide transport in a generic Underground Research Laboratory (URL). The CFM project includes a long-term in-situ test (LIT) and an in-rock bentonite erosion test (i-BET) to assess the in-situ colloid-facilitated radionuclide transport through the bentonite erosion in the natural flow field. In the LIT experiment, radionuclide-containing compacted bentonite was equipped with a triple-packer system and then positioned at the borehole in the shear zone. It was observed that colloid transport was limited owing to the low swelling pressure and low hydraulic conductivity. Therefore, a postmortem analysis is being conducted to estimate the partial migration and diffusion of radionuclides. The i-BET experiment, that focuses more on bentonite erosion, was newly designed to assess colloid formation in another flow field. The i-BET experiment started with the placement of compacted bentonite rings in the double-packer system, and the hydraulic parameters and bentonite erosion have been monitored since December 2018.
