Genus Trissolcus are considered as most effective natural enemy for control Pentatomid pests. Trissolcus japonicus (Ashmead) is native egg parasitoid of the brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Stål) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in Palearctic region. Nevertheless, identification of Palearctic Trissolcus species are still controversial because of morphological homogeneity such as Trissolcus semistriatus (Nees, 1834) and Trissolcus Kozlovi Ryakhovskii, 1975. This study reassessed Korean Trissolcus species diversity and provided DNA barcoding data using mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene for 11 Korean Trissolcus species.

The genus Trissolcus Ashmead is an egg parasitoid of the family Pentatomidae, of which species are used for biocontrol agents for sting bug pests. Until now, 8 species of Trissolcus were recorded from South Korea. In this study, two species, Trissolcus plautiae (Watanabe) and T. elasmuchae (Watanabe, 1954), are newly recognized from Korean peninsula. Diagnosis, photographs and key to species are provided.

Halyomorpha halys(Stål, 1855) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), also known as Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB), is a recent invasive pest in America and Europe. It originated from East Asia such as Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. Genus Trissolcus (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) which is regarded as important species for biological control of H. halys, was described 6 species previously in Korea. But biology and taxonomic character of this genus is poorly known in Korea. Herein, we report two species from Korea, T. japonicus Ashmead, 1904 and T. plautiae Watanabe, 1954. We have investigated the morphological characters and COI sequence, and conducted an experiment about parasitic preference on BMSB's egg. Morphological key and picture of two species, and result of sequence investigation and experiment will be presented.

Trissolcus nigripedius Nakagawa and Telenomus gifuensis Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) are solitary egg parasitoids of Dolycoris baccarum L. (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), a polyphagous seed-sucking bug of agricultural crops. Field examinations revealed that the two parasitoids are the most common species, but only a single species emerge from a host egg mass. To explain this observation we tested two hypotheses of interspecific host discrimination and asymmetry in competitive interaction between the two parasitoids. When provided with host eggs pre-parasitized by each other, both Tr. nigripedius and Te. gifuensis parasitized 94 and 100% of the host eggs without interspecific host discrimination, respectively. Interestingly, from the multiparasitized eggs irrespective of oviposition sequence, progeny of Te. gifuensis always survive better than Tr. nigripedius. Te. gifuensis is superior in immature competition probably due to shorter egg incubation period, hence progeny of Te. gifuensis become first instar faster than that of Tr. nigripedius. However, adult Tr. nigripedius is always superior competitor in possessing and guarding the host eggs even after oviposition against Te. gifuensis. Therefore, the asymmetry in competitive interaction between Tr. nigripedius and Te. gifuensis may explain the emergence of a single species from a host egg mass in the field in spite of no interspecific host discrimination.

From the surveys of 2005 and 2006 in Korea, Trissolcus nigripedius was found in four locations, i.e., Andong, Miryang, Namhae, and Suwon, and one of the major egg parasitoids of Dolycoris baccarum. T nigripedius was also found to parasitize two other soybean bugs, Riptortus clavatus and Piezodorus hybneri, from the field collection in 2005. Host acceptance behaviors of T. nigripedius consisting of drumming, oviposition, and marking were observed and compared on five species of soybean bugs. T. nigripedius showed the complete host acceptance behaviors on the eggs of D. baccarum, P. hybneri, and Halyomorpha halys. But T. nigripedius emerged only from the eggs of D. baccarum (96%) and P. hybneri (75%) after 24 hours of exposure. T. nigripedius did not mark on the eggs of R. clavatus and Nezara antennata during the observation of behavior, hence no egg deposition was made. However, T. nigripedius parasitized 20% and killed 30% of the eggs of R. clavatus when 24 hours were given for parasitization. T. nigripedius would be a potential biological control agent of D. baccarum and P. hybneri with ability of giving additional mortality on R. clavatus in soybean field.
