본고는 德山洞府를 문화지리학적 측면에서 접근한 것인 바, 남명이 산천재에 게시했던 ｢신명사도｣와 덕산동부가 일정한 함수관계에 놓인 다는 가설에 기반한 것이다. 구조적 측면에서 입덕문은 口關 역할을 하며, 확 트인 덕산동부는 태일진군이 다스리는 나라일 수 있다. 사상적 측면에서는 堯舜日月의 유가적 이상과 武陵桃源의 도가적 이상이 상호 맞물린다. 덕산 공간 역시 ｢신명사도｣에 근거하여 그 경계지점에 입덕 문이 놓이고, 덕천벼리라는 좁은 공간을 통과하면 안쪽에는 넓은 공간 이 나타난다. 廣-狹-廣의 구조 속에서 독특한 문화가 생성되었던 것 이다. 덕산에는 남명 관련 이야기가 언중에 의해 다양하게 전해지고 있다. 남명이 덕산에서 사치를 즐겼다, 자신을 사모하다가 구렁이가 된 처녀 와 함께 살았다, 幽宅을 친구에게 주었다가 사후에 돌려받았다, 퇴계와 도술 시합을 벌여 이겼다는 등의 이야기가 대체로 그러한 것이다. 이러 한 이야기는 주로 덕산 일대에 민중 사이에서 광범하게 전해지는 것으 로, ｢신명사도｣와 덕산동부의 상관성과는 또 다른 측면의 구술문화를 형성하였다. 민중들은 남명 이야기를 흥미 본위의 대항 담론으로 이끌 어 간 것이라 하겠다.

This study presented an approach to Deoksandongbu in the aspect of cultural geography, being based on a hypothesis that Sinmyeongsado, which Nammyong published in Sancheongjae, was in a certain functional relation with Deoksandongbu. In the structural aspect, Ipdeokmun serves as a gate to a relationship. Open Deoksandongbu can be a state ruled by Taeiljingun. In the ideological aspect, the Confucian ideals of Yosunilwol meet the Taoist ideals of Mureungdowon. It is the same with the space of Deoksan, where there is Ipdeokmun at the boundary point based on Sinmyeongsado. Once passing through the narrow space called Deokcheonbyeori, the visitor is inside in the huge space. A unique culture was created in the structure of Gwang(廣)-Hyeop (狹)-Gwang(廣). In Deoksan, various stories related to Nammyong have been passed down. In those stories, he would enjoy a luxurious life in Deoksan, live with an unmarried woman that became a snake out of her love for him, give his friend a grave and have it returned after his death, or competed against Toigye in a Taoist magic contest. Those stories have been transmitted broadly among the people in Deoksan and formed an oral culture with a different aspect from the correlations between Sinmyeongsado and Deoksandongbu. The people focused on interest in those Nammyong stories.
