지금까지 한국 성명학에 관한 연구는 한국인의 가치관과 인식⋅관습 등을 이해하려는 한 방법으로 꾸준히 진행되어 오고 있다. 역학적(易學的) 관점에서 본 연구는 현대 한국사회에서 단지 언어현상으로만 그치는 것이 아니라 현세기복(現世祈福)을 위한 수단으로도 인식되고 있는 성명학에 대해 그동안 관련 학계에서 이루었던 연구성과를 정리한 후, 한국 성명학에 관한 연구가 향후 나아가야 할 방향과 과제를 제시하고자 하였다.
지금까지 한국 성명학 연구의 경향성을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. ① 고전소설 속의 등장인물의 성명 분석 ② 실증 사례의 통계분석 ③ 기업 상호명 분석 ④ 성명학 이론의 개괄적 고찰 ⑤ 현행 한국 성명학의 문제점 도출과 해결방안을 제안하는 경우 등이다.
그러나 성명학 연구의 역사가 일천하고 성명학 연구에 대한 관심이 미흡한 때문인지 대체로 그 연구수준이 높지 않다. 그리고 연구주제도 서로 중복되는 경우가 많다. 따라서 앞으로 한국 성명학에 대한 연구주제를 다양화하고 연구 수준을 심화시킬 수 있도록 관련 학계와 연구자들의 노력이 절실히 요구된다.
그 외 향후 과제로는 일본 수리성명학의 적용에 대한 재검토, 현행 발음오행 성명학의 문제점 해결, 대법원 선정 인명용 한자의 재검토 등이다. 또한 실증 사례를 통해 그 실증성을 통계분석하는 경우가 있는데, 이 경우에도 단순 통계가 아니라 조사집단과 참조집단 간의 비교분석과 조사치의 차이 검증을 통해 심층적인 통계 연구가 이뤄져야 한다.

So far, study on Korean naming studies has been steadily progressed as a method to understand Korean value views, awareness⋅custom, etc. The researcher intended to conduct a research from the epidemiological(易學的) viewpoint does not merely stop at linguistic phenomenon in modern Korean society, but aimed at suggesting the direction and task henceforth of Korean naming studies, after arranging research outputs or naming studies, which is also perceived as a means for blessing for this life(Hyeonseguibok, 現世祈福) meanwhile in the relevant academic circles.
Research trends of Korean naming studies so far are as follows. ① Analysis of names of characters in the classical novel ② Statistical analysis of positive case ③ Analysis of company name ④ General consideration of naming studies theory ⑤ suggestion of deduction of problem and solution for current Korean naming studies.
Nevertheless, the research level is not high on the whole, for some reason such as short history of naming studies research and insufficient interest in naming studies research. Also, research subjects are overlapped. Therefore, efforts of related academic circles and researchers is urgently required in order to diversify research subjects of Korean naming studies and deepen research level, henceforth.
Besides, tasks in future should include reexamination of application of Japanese mathematical naming studies, solution for current pronunciation five elements naming studies, and reexamination of Chinese characters for names selected by the Supreme Court. Also, there’s a case of statistical analysis of verification through the positivistic case, in this case, an in-depth statistical research is also required through comparative analysis between the investigation group and reference group and difference verification of investigation value, besides a mere statistical research.
