이 논문은 보컬 표현기법인 멜리스마에 선율 모티브가 어떻게 활용되었는지에 대해 연구하였 다. 연구 곡을 선정하여 모티브로 활용된 멜리스마의 형태, 곡 구성 별 멜리스마의 사용, 모티브가 활용된 멜리스마 분류, 모티브가 활용되지 않은 멜리스마의 형태로 나눠서 분석했다. 연구 곡은 알앤비 발라드 장르의 곡 중 멜리스마의 활용도가 높고 빈번한 사용이 나타나는 곡으로 선택하였으며 싱어송라이터 브라이언 맥나잇(Brian Mcknight)의 정규앨범 9집 《Evolution of a Man》 중 13번째 수록곡인 ‘Another you’를 선정하여 곡 구성별 전체 멜리스마의 음정 형태를 분석했다. 모티브를 활용한 멜리스마의 선율 모티브를 원형의 동형진행, 자유 동형진행으로 나눠서 분석이 이루어졌으며 그 결과 선율 모티브가 활용된 멜리스마의 원형과 동형진행, 자유 동형진행의 반복된 사용이 나타났고 곡의 구성 별로 모티브가 활용된 멜리스마의 빈도수 차이를 보였으며 모티브의 반복 사이에서 모티브를 활용하지 않은 선율의 멜리스마를 사용함으로 상대적으로 대비되어 강조되는 효과를 볼 수 있었다.

The use of melody motifs in the vocal expression technique, Melisma, analyzed the forms of melisma using melodic motifs, the use of melisma by song composition, the classification of melisma using motifs, and the form of melisma not using motifs. Among the songs of the R & B Ballard genre, which shows high utilization and frequent use of melisma, the 13th song from Brian Mcknight's 9th album ‘Evolution of a Man’ was released. The pitch shape of the whole melisma by song composition was analyzed. Melisma's melody motif using the motif was divided into circular sequence and free sequence. As a result, the analysis of the research song showed the repeated use of melisma and melodism and free sequence with melody motifs, and the frequency difference between melismas with motifs for each composition of the songs. By using melisma of melody that did not utilize, it was able to see the contrast effect.
