A Study on Zhou Bida’s Travel Note in the Southern Song Dynasty
This study aims to review the travel essays of a literary man Zhou Bida in the Southern Song, who has not been studied at all in Korea although he made a significant contribution in the literature history in the Song Dynasty. During the Song dynasty, the literary men especially in the Southern Song era merged various previous travel‐related records and attempted a new form of writing to pour out timeless masterpieces, and these literary achievements have had a great influence not only on the later generations of China, but also on the creation of travel essays by Korean literary men. As such, it has already been recognized by the academic world how much the works of the Southern Song era played a significant role in the development of travel essays in China, but examining the research achievements in this field so far, it can be seen that the research focus is only on the works of Lu You and Fan Chengda, not the works of Zhou Bida, who left the largest number of travel essay works in the Southern Song era. Therefore, this study attempts to examine the content and characteristics of an individual named Zhou Bida, and at the same time explore what role they played in the formation and development of Song dynasty travel essays. The research subjects to be covered in this study are 『Guilulingriji』, 『Fanzhouyoushanlu』, 『Zoushilu』, and 『Nanguilu』, and currently, there is no simple introduction to these four works in the academic world of Korea. First, this study intends to outline the description background and content of each work, and then examine the characteristics and significance of the works.
