본고는 황해도 굿에서만 볼 수 있는 도산말명거리의 명칭이 가지고 있는 의미와 신격을 고찰하여 도산말명거리의 중요성을 부각시키기 위함이다. 먼저 도산(塗山)의 역할을 규명하고 동시에 말명의 어원을 찾아 말명의 신격을 밝힘과 동시에 이 굿에서 연출되는 ‘방아찧기’가 가지는 의미에 대해서도 논하고자 한다. 도산은 그 당시 주변국들이 모여서 현안을 논의하는 곳으로 주변국들 간의 갈등과 반목을 해소하고 상호 유익한 결과를 도출하여 제족 간의 화합과 번영을 위하여 함께 모인 장소가 바로 도산이다. 이 도산회의가 후대 신라의 화백제도와 몽골의 쿠릴타이 제도로 발전하였으며, 현재의 국제연합과 같은 기능으로 발전하였다고 볼 수 있다. 도산회의에서 제천의식을 담당한 신녀, 즉 무녀를 만명이라고 불렀으며 변음 되면서 말명이 되었다. 방아찧기의 과정은 도산회의에서 제족간의 오해와 갈등을 극복하고 뜻을 모아 인간에게 유익한 결과를 도출해 내었다는 것을 해학적으로 풍자한 것이다. 방아찧기 재담에서 주고받는 익살스러운 성적 재담은 단순히 음담패설을 늘어놓는 것이 아니라 그 재담 속에는 음양의 조화와 생산의 장려 그리고 풍요를 기원하는 의미가 있다.

Thhis paper aims to highlight the importance of Dosan Malmyeong Street by examining the meaning and divine character of the name of Dosan Malmyeong Street, which can only be seen in Gut in Hwanghae Province. First, I would like to clarify the role of Dosan (塗山) and at the same time find out the etymology of the horse name to clarify the deity of the horse name, and at the same time discuss the meaning of the ‘banga janggi’ produced in this gut. At that time, Dosan was a place where neighboring countries gathered to discuss current issues, and it is the place where the neighboring countries gathered for harmony and prosperity by resolving conflicts and antagonisms and drawing mutually beneficial results. This Dosan (塗山) conference developed into the Hwabaek system of Silla and the Kuriltai system of Mongolia in the future, and it can be seen that it has developed into the same function as the present United Nations. At the Dosan Council, the priestess who was in charge of the rite of heaven, that is, the shaman, was called Mannyeon, and it became a nickname as it changed. The process of pounding the mill is a humorous satire of how the bankruptcy meeting overcame misunderstandings and conflicts between the clans and brought out beneficial results for humans. The humorous sexual jokes exchanged and exchanged in this rite do not simply spread obscene rumors, but have the meaning of wishing for harmony of yin and yang, encouragement of production, and prosperity.
