This study tried to understand how the the shushu and fangji spread to Baekje from ancient China. The system of Shushu and Fangji, which cannot be ignored in ancient East Asian studies, had great effects on many fields of early Chinese society, and also deeply influenced Japan and Korea. Ancient Korea has a deep tradition of Shushu and Fangji. Baekje and China had close political and economic relations, which entailed the importation of a large amount of Shushu, Fangji knowledge by Baekje from China. In A.D 450, Baekje asked the Liu Song Dynasty for Yilin and Shizhan, which indicates that Baekje had reached a reasonable level of competence in the field of Shushu. Though the motivation is not clear yet, It appears to have been associated with military activities as well as state sacrifice. Baekje absorbed Shushu, Fangji and developed it within its local context, giving Shushu, Fangji a new outlook. The unique characteristics of Baekje's Shushu, Fangji will be more fully outlined by drawing on a study of historical documents and archaeological materials inthe future. In this regard, an evolving understanding of Baekje Shushu, Fangji will be more able to seamlessly and continuously incorporate new theories and information.
