This survey was accomplished to compare the characteristics of water quality and algae at the Daechung Dam with those at its regulating reservoir from the year 2003 to 2005. In the case of Daechung Dam, three sites, such as the area near dam body, the Mooneui intake station, and Chudong intake station, were selected averaged data were used for the comparison. The water quality of the Daechung Dam are an follows; temperature is from 4 to 25℃(average 15), pH is from 7.3 to 8.6(average 7.9), DO is from 5.7 to 13.0mg/L(average 9.9), BOD is from 0.7 to 1.7mg/L(average 1.1), COD is from 2.5 to 4.4mg/L (average 3.1), SS is from 1.1 to 9.8mg/L(average 3.2), total coliform is from 0 to 37MPN/100mL(average 11), total phosphorus is from 0.008 to 0.074mg/L(average 0.022) and total nitrogen is from 1.087 to 2.175mg/L(average 1.492). The water quality of regulating reservoir are an follows; temperature is from 1.0 to 24.0℃(average 13), pH is from 6.7 to 8.2(average 7.6), DO is from 5.9 to 13.2mg/L(average 9.2), BOD is from 0.3 to 1.8mg/L(average 0.8), COD is from 2.4 to 5.3mg/L(average 3.8), SS is from 1.2 to 50mg/L(average 9.0), total coliform is from 0 to 260MPN/100mL(average 56), total phosphorus is from 0.005 to 0.224mg/L(average 0.04) and total nitrogen is from 1.123 to 5.227mg/L (average 2.3). The water quality of regulating reservoir had been the Class Ⅱ raw water criteria ein years ago, but it has been improved to Class I recently. Whereas the water quality of the Daechung Dam has been maintained as Ⅱ except COD.

Algae-related taste and odor problems are recognized by the water community worldwide to be major causes of consumer complaints and a loss in confidence of drinking water safety by the general public. Such problems can be arisen by natural and anthropogenic means, even by drinking water treatment processes. Microorganism is a common cause of naturally produced taste and odor. In this connection, the role of microorganisms and their metabolites are reviewed in the viewpoint of taste and odor in drinking water supplies.

The objective of this study is to investigate water quality of lake and to provide data for management practices of water quality measurement network in Chungcheongnam-do. 100 Samples of lakes was collected and analyzed. Variation degree of water contamination and changing trend of lake water for the samples were considered focussed on COD. The obtained results were as follows; 1. As a analytical results to water contamination, COD concentration for 28 lakes in 8 cities exceeded 8.0㎎/L so that it was evaluated these water can't help using farming water. 2. All lakes in Gongju and Cheonyang region was suitable for agricultural water as 3th class of water quality standard, 9 out of 12 lakes in Taean was short of the quality of agricultural water standard, and 3 lakes in Dangjin was serious contaminated under the regular grades. 3. There was no lake water fitted to 1 grade class of environmental standard of lake water quality in korea, only one lake suitable to 2 class, 48% for 3 class, 21% for 4 class, 16% for 5 class and 12% under the grade. So it was become that water quality of most lakes in Chungcheongnam-do was contaminated.

This study presented the plan for treatment plant as investigating the technical examination of existing landfill leachate treatment plant at Geumgo-Dong and the plan of landfill leachate treatment with sewage treatment. The R/O process in 1st stage landfill leachate treatment plant(plant capacity:150m3/d) was closed in consideration of economical aspect and efficiency. It is to be desired that the 1st stage and 2nd stage landfill leachate treatment (plant capacity: 250m3/d) are combined, and are converted the Pretreatment process with nitrogen treatment process, and after total landfill treatment leachate happened from landfill site is pretreated it is transferred the sewage treatment plant. Ammonia nitrogen load of landfill leachate that was transferredthe sewage treatment plant(plant capacity: 300,000m3/d). This load is no problem at now, but it is need change the inflow line for sewage treatment plant and the enlargement of pretreatment process in case that the raw landfill leachate is increased.

Oxidation characteristics of benzene as a VOC was investigated using a fixed bed reactor system over copper base catalysts. The copper base catalysts were made by using copper nitrate reagent and various support materials such as γ-Al2O3, TiO2, and zeolite. The parametric tests were conducted at the reaction temperature range of 200~500℃, benzene concentration of 1,000~2,000 ppm, and space velocity range of 5,000~20,000 hr-1. The property analyses such as BET, SEM, XRD and the conversions of catalytic oxidation of VOC were examined. XRD analysis on copper catalysts showed CuO crystal forms and the peak intensity of CuO increased as the impregnation weight of copper grew. The experimental results showed that the conversion was increased with decreasing space velocity. It was also found that Cu/γ-Al2O3+TiO2 catalyst showed the highest activity for the oxidation of benzene and 15% metal loading was the optimum impregnation level.

To improve water quality of Buji Stream and Shenzhen River, the Bujihe Wastewater Treatment Plant has been reconstructed from the original coagulkation-flocculation sedimentation system into the enhanced hybrid submerged biofilm-activated sludge (EHYBFAS)system developed by the authors. The main design parameters of the EHYBFAS system, process characteristics, operational performance, techno-economic index, and experience in design, construction and operation are described, which set up an example of the municipal wastewater treatment plants using the novel process of EHYBFAS, which has lots of advantages, such as stable and high operational performance with the final effluent quality well meeting 1A-1B standard of GB 18918-2002( Chinese national standard for pollutants of effluent from the MWWTPs), much less footprint of 1ha/(100×103m3/d)) vs 4-5ha/(100×103m3/d), much lower capital and operation costs of 700-800 Yuan(RMB)/(m3/d) and 0.5 Yuan(RMB)/m3 vs 1200-1500 Yuan/(m3/d)and 1.0-1.2 Yuan/m3 and much less sludge production of 0.3g dry solid/g removed BOD5 vs 0.7 g dry solid/removed BOD5 respectively for the MWWTP with AS process.
