        A new standard rose cultivar ‘Green Star’ was bred from the cross between pink color standard cultivar ‘Pastel move’ and red color standard cultivar ‘Vital’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2008 and ‘Green Star’ was finally selected in 2013 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2011 to 2013. ‘Green Star’, a light yellow standard cultivar grows vigorously and has good and big shape. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 122.0 stems/㎡/year in yield, 77.0±8.0 cm in length of cut flower, 12.1±0.4 cm in flower diameter, 37.7±4.2 in petal number, and 11.0±1.4 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Moonlight’.

        A new light purple rose cultivar ‘Violetta’ was bred from the cross between light purple standard cultivar ‘Ocean Song’ and yellow standard cultivar ‘golden gate’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2010 and ‘Violetta’ was finally selected in 2013 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2011 to 2013. ‘Violetta’, a light purple color standard cultivar grows vigorously and has good shape and good vase life. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 167.1 stems/㎡/year in yield, 77.9±6.0 cm in length of cut flower, 12.8±0.3 cm in flower diameter, 55.5±4.9 in petal number, and 13.1±1.6 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Aqua’.

        LOX 결여 콩(개척#1, 개척#2 및 진양)과 일반콩(태광)으로 만든 두부의 이화학적 특성 및 항산화 활성을 비교하였다. 두부의 무기물 함량은 대조구에 비해 진양 두부에서 훨씬 높은 함량이었다. 경도 및 검성은 대조구에 비해 LOX 결여 콩 두부에서 유의적으로 높았다. 두부의 맛, 풍미를 포함한 전체적인 기호도는 개척#2 두부가 다소 높게 평가 되었다. 두부의 이소플라본 함량은 대조구에 비해 LOX 결여 콩 두부에서 높았다. 두부의 총 페놀 함량은 대조구와 개척#1 및 개척#2 두부에서 비슷한 수준이었으며, 플라보노이드 함량은 대조구에 비해 개척#1 두부는 2.6배, 개척#2 두부는 1.4배 높았다. 두부의 항산화 활성은 개척#1 두부에서 가장 높았으며, 다음으로 개척#2 두부였다. 4℃에서 15일 저장하는 동안 두부 침지액의 탁도는 점차 증가하였는데, 저장 15일 경과 후 개척#1 및 #2 두부는 태광 두부에 비해 유의적으로 낮았다. LOX가 결여된 개척#1 및 #2 두부는 이소플라본 및 총 페놀 함량이 태광 두부에 비해 높아 항산화 활성 및 저장 안정성에 효과적이었으며, 특히 개척#2 두부는 전체적인 기호도가 높아 LOX 결여 콩 품종이 두부 가공에 적합할 것으로 판단된다.

        Drought and salinity are the major abiotic stresses which are being continued to hamper the ecosystem and agriculture of the affected region. Plant species have adaptations to enhance their ability to tolerate stresses through physiological adjustment. Therefore, substantial amount of research are ongoing to provide insights about those mechanisms which enlighten the stress tolerance in plant. In this study, several rice cultivars were collected from the different parts of the world and ion accumulation experiments were conducted to select the best stress tolerant cultivar in drought and salt stress environment. For stress treatment, five rice cultivars were subjected to salt (200 mM NaCl) and drought (200 mM Mannitol) for 72h. Later Na+, Ca++, K+ concentrations in shoot and root samples were examined at different time interval. In both drought and salt stress, rice cultivar C201 (collected for uzbekistan) showed the lowest levels of Na+ ion and Na+: K+ ratio compared to other cultivars. It was significant parallel observation with pokkali (known salt tolerant cultivar). In this preliminary study, it was observed the C201 had more stress tolerant in terms of ion accumulation; however detail physiological studies are required to strengthen the idea regarding the best stress tolerant physiotype.

        The anti-obesity activity of the Cucubita moschata Duch. extracts was investigated. The inhibitory effect on triglyceride accumulation was shown in 3T3-L1 preadipocyte. The lipid accumulation of the ethanol extract in 5 mg/mL concentration was shown to be 75.4%, where as that of water extract was shown to be 85.2%. The survival rate of the cell in the viability test was shown to be 86.5% in the 0.5-5 mg/mL concentration. Total polyphenol content was highest in the water extract(46.54 ± 0.02 mg). These results suggest that Cucubita moschata Duch. extracts have a potential as anti-obesity material by reducing the lipid accumulation.
