This study is based on a case study, in which an interactive teaching method has been applied to teach beginning level of Chinese to Korean college students. One of the lessons from the textbook, Speaking Basic Chinese (2013) has been used for teaching 21 students. The method suggests three stages of interactions by including: (1) word learning, 2) sentence production, and (3) sentence application. The stage of word learning is further divided into 3 steps: (1) pronunciation and understanding meaning, (2) inducing student participation, (3) confirmation and self-inspection. The second stage of sentence production is also divided into 3 different steps: (1) sentence production using learned words, (2) practicing sentences, (3) practicing sentences by role-plays. Likewise, the final stage of sentence application includes 2 practical steps: (1) interpreting basic sentences, (2) interpreting more complex sentences. This case study has found that the students feel more interested and motivated in learning activities through diverse interactions between the instructor and the students, and also interactions between the students. It is suggested that this kind of interactive approaches be applied to teaching the beginning Chinese conversation and higher levels as well. Finally, the finding of the present case study should be examined with more and in-depth studies and experiments in the future.
This study was investigating the anti-obesity effects of diets with a mixture of cheese, red ginseng and fermented mature fruit of Rubus coreanus Miquel. We fed the experimental diets (SC5, SC10) supplemented with 5% or 10% cheese containing of fermented mixture, then orally administered the extract of fermented mixture (RB100, RB300) at a concentration of 100 or 300 mg/kg body weight to SD rats with high fat diet (HFD). The results were as follows: Sample cheese groups decreased visceral fat mass and adipocyte size of stomach compared to that of HFD group. Additionally, lipid droplets of liver in sample cheese groups were smaller than that in HFD group. The serum triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (tChol), glucose, leptin, and insulin levels in sample cheese group were lower than that in HFD group. But, the serum adiponectin and HDL-cholesterol (cHDL) levels were higher than that in HFD group. These results suggest that fermentation of red ginseng and Rubus coreanus mixed with cheese might be helpful in preventing obesity in high fat diet-fed rats.
The purpose of this study is to seek some characteristics of Korean translation of Chinese idiomatic expressions. The paper uses an intermediate-level Chinese conversational textbook titled New Speaking Chinese. The data consist of 90 Chinese idiomatic expressions. Whether a Chinese expression is replaced with a Korean idiom, Chinese idioms can be classified into the two major types: 1) mutable idioms, and 2) immutable idioms. Then mutable idioms are further divided into two subtypes: 1A) identical/similar images, and 1B) substitutional images. Likewise, immutable idioms can be divided into two subtypes: 2A) idioms with general explanations requiring no ethnic information about China, and 2B) idioms with special explanations requiring special background knowledge about Chinese cultures and history. The results show that type 1 is only responsible for 39% of all the Korean translations. Type 2 is responsible for 61% of the translations. For further analysis, type 2A has been most frequently used, with 55% of all data, and type 2B has been least used, with 6% only, but draws particular attentions of translators. For the other two types, there were type 1A with 26% and type 1B with 13%, respectively. Pedagogical skills for appropriate translation of Chinese idioms along with classroom activities are suggested.
The purpose of this paper is to discover some features of Chinese translation of Korean onomatopoeia, which include onomatopoeic and mimetic expressions. The study analyzed 115 expressions from the 16 works of hangari (pot) which is written by Chung Ho-sung, one of the most well-known Korean writers. The Chinese translations were found to be classified into five different types: 1) maintaining onomatopoeia; 2) switching into patterns; 3) providing explanations; 4) deleting and 5) differentiating interpretations. The result showed that Type 3 (providing explanations) was most frequently used, being responsible for 39% of all the Chinese translations. Type 1, maintaining onomatopoeia, was responsible only for 26% of the translations, confirming that Korean has much more abundant onomatopoeia than Chinese. The other three types ranged from 10% to 14%, which requires some particular attentions of the translators. Finally, the study suggests a specific classroom activity which can facilitate effective learning of onomatopoeic translations of Korean into Chinese.
This paper attempts to stress the importance of teaching Chinese proverbs by comparing proverbs of Korea and China. The study divides the proverbs into two broad categories: equivalent switch and non-equivalent switch. The equivalent switch refers to the proverbs with various forms but the same meaning. Accordingly, they are divided into four types: 1) the same form and the same meaning, 2) similar form and the same meaning, 3) different form but the same meaning, and 4) those with local names but the same meaning. Likewise, non-equivalent switch, the proverbs with different meanings, are divided into three types: 5) the same form but different meaning, 6) those with strong influence of local names, and finally 7) those with strong influence of food cultures. The paper suggests that Korean leaners should improve their understandings about Chinese proverbs and their abilities to use those proverbs appropriately in real situations of communication.
This paper suggests a new pedagogical method, namely ‘applied Korean and Chinese language education’. It argues that the previous teaching method, which focuses exclusively on Korean students, should be changed to help Korean and Chinese students study together. By setting the goal of teaching practical abilities demanded by society, the paper explicitly considers six different levels of teaching processes: 1) pronouncing and listening, 2) expressing ideas, 3) understanding cultures, 4) reading and writing, 5) presiding and giving speeches, and finally 6) experiencing internship and preparing for interviews. This paper emphasizes that the skills of translation and interpretation should be applied to all of the six levels. In addition, a special evaluation method is suggested in order to encourage student motivation, thus ultimately improve their adaptive abilities in the society.
Flow cytometry를 이용하여 개 정자의 생존율 평가를 수행하고자 2-4세의 수캐 5두가 이용되었고, 분석을 위해 PI염색을 실시하였다. Flow cytometry를 이용한 개 신선 정액의 생존율 평가는 생존 정자와 죽은 정자의 비율을 1:0, 1:1, 1:3으로 조성하여 이를 flow cytometry로 평가하고 광학현미경검사, CFDA/PI 염색검사, HOS test에 의한 생존율과 비교하여 flow cytometry와의 상관관계를 알아보았다. 또한 개 정액을 동결하여 응해 후의 개 정자의 생존율 평가에도 동일한 방법으로 상관관계를 조사하였다. 신선 정액에서 생존 정자와 죽은 정자의 비율이 1:0, 1:1, 1:3 모든 경우에서 flow cytometry를 이용한 생존율은 HOS test에 의한 생존율과 높은 상관관계를 나타내었다 (p<0.01). 신선 정액에서 생존 정자와 죽은 정자의 비율이 1:0과 1:3일 때 광학현미경적 검사에 의한 생존율은 flow cytometry 분석에 의한 생존율과 유의 적인 상관관계를 나타내었으나 (p<0.05), 1:1 비율의 경우 상관관계를 보이지 않았다. 신선 정액에 생존 정자와 죽은 정자의 비율이 1:0과 1:1일 때 CFDA/PI 염색 검사에 의한 생존율은 flow cytometry분석에 의한 생존율과 높은 상관관계를 보였으며(p<0.01), 1:3 비율에서는 유의적인 상관관계를 보였다 (p<0.05). 동결 및 응해 후의 개 정자의 생존율 평가에서 HOS test 결과는 flow cytometry분석에 의한 생존율과 높은 상관관계를 보였으며 (p<0.01), 광학현미경적 검사를 통한 생존율은 유의적인 상관관계를 보였으나 (p<0.05), CFDA/PI 염색 검사결과는 상관관계를 보이지 않았다. 이상의 결과 flow cytometry는 신선정액 및 동결ㆍ융해 후 개 정자에 대한 생존율 검사에 정확한 평가 방법 인 것으로 판단되었다.
