The occurrence of Laodelphax striatellus (SBPH) in Korea ranged 0.3-19.3 individuals in 2021, and 0.3-23.3 individuals in 2022 during the investigation period. Nilaparvata lugens (BPH) was not observed in 2021, but N. lugens (BPH) showed the highest number(82.0 inds.) in late September of 2022. The occurrence of Sogatella furcifera (WBPH) was not severe during the study period. Compared to Korea’s situation, N. lugens (BPH) and S. furcifera (WBPH) in Asian regions showed high occurrence in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The results of the field survey could be confirmed with the occurrence pattern of about once or twice in their regions. Continuous monitoring is required for the best control of planthopper species in rice production regions of Asia. We anticipate that exchange of occurrence information and establishment of a control cooperation system will improve rice productivity in Asian regions by preventing outbreak of planthopper species and reducing damages caused by the species.

The consumption of Flammulina velutipes mushroom imported from Korea has been associated with the cases of listeriosis in the United States, Canada, and Australia. We investigated the effect of sanitizing the plastic wrapper (used in packaging F. velutipes) with slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) and ultraviolet C waterproof light-emitting diode (UVC-WLED) on reducing the Listeria monocytogenes. Further, the effect of UVC-LED on L. monocytogenes growth in F. velutipes at different storage temperatures (2, 4, and 10oC) was determined. The combined (SAEW+UVC-W-LED) treatment for 5–10 min reduced 99.9% of bacterial population from the contaminated plastic wrapper. In addition, the UVC-LED treatment for 3 min reduced the L. monocytogenes concentration in F. velutipes by 0.47 log CFU/g. Moreover, the growth of L. monocytogenes in the treated mushrooms was slower than that of the untreated (control) ones. L. monocytogenes concentration in F. velutipes increased over 3 log CFU/g at 2oC and 10oC for 60 and 10 days, respectively. The growth of L. monocytogenes at the bottom of mushrooms was faster than that at the top at both the temperatures. These results indicate that the combined SAEW+UVC-WLED treatment of plastic wrappers and the UVC-LED treatment of mushrooms can be used as potential hurdle technologies to control the risk of L. monocytogenes in mushrooms prior to packaging at farms.

A slope stability analysis has been done on Daesungri area by a computer program using limit equilibrium (Sarma method,1979). For this study, the authors modified the iteration technique and menu system of the algorithm which has been suggested by Hoek(1986). Sarma method is known as a suitable tool for evaluation of slope failure taking into account the kinematics of sliding blocks, and can be used for analysis of slopes of complex profiles such as circular, non-circular, planar sliding surfaces or any combination of these. The insertion of iteration technique and hydrodynamics in this method is very efficient, and gives an accurate estimate of static factor of safety. The analysis allows to specify different shear strength for each slice side and base, and therefore the submergence of any part of slopes is automatically analysed by taking the coordinates of phreatic surface. This program in combination with those stereographic technique developed by Appfied Geology Division of KIER(Korea Institute of Energy and Resources) in 1988 can be expected to give a useful result into evaluation of slope stability
