The self-propagating high temperature synthesis approach was applied to synthesize amorphous boron nanopowders in argon atmospheres. For this purpose, we investigated the characteristics of a thermally induced combustion wave in the B2O3 + α Mg system(α = 1.0-8.0) in an argon atmospheres. In this study, the exothermic nature of the B2O3-Mg reaction was investigated using thermodynamic calculations. Experimental study was conducted based on the calculation data and the SHS products consisting of crystalline boron and other compounds were obtained starting with a different initial molar ratio of Mg. It was found that the B2O3 and Mg reaction system produced a high combustion temperature with a rapid combustion reaction. In order to regulate the combustion reaction, NaCl, Na2B4O7 and H3BO3 additives were investigated as diluents. In an experimental study, it was found that all diluents effectively stabilized the reaction regime. The final product of the B2O3 + α Mg system with 0.5 mole Na2B4O7 was identified to be amorphous boron nano-powders(< 100 nm).
The production of nuclear fuel cladding tube is expected to increase with the nuclear power plant expansion. Zirconium(Zr) scrap that is generated during manufacturing is also expected to increase. Zr electrorefining experiment was carried out in the fluoride salt of LiF-KF-ZrF4 using multiple electrode for scale up and improving throughput Zr electrorefiner development. The Zr reduction peak observed at -0.8 V(vs.Ni). Polarization behavior showed that the amount of applied current increases because of decreasing cell resistance as the number of cathode increases. Experimental results showed the highest recovery rate about 98% at lowest current density of 25.64 mA/cm2 using 6 electrodes. XRD and TG analysis result show that pure Zr was recovered 99.92% and ICP analysis shows that lower impurity content than conventional impurity content of the Anode(97.8%). Electrorefining consumes energy about 7.15 kWh/kg less than 39.7% compared to the Kroll process using 6 electrode width of 20 mm and height of 65 mm. Because of increasing cell efficiency and recovery rate, using multiple cathode is determined as an efficient technique for scale up electrorefining Zr scrap.
Spherical Ag powder was prepared in the system of by wet chemical reduction method. The size of Ag powder was increased as the reaction temperature and the concentration of reducing agent was decreased in the constant concentration of dispersion agent. Optimum conditions of producing Ag powder having of D50 was 1M of , 0.5M of , 1.5g of Gelatine in the room temperature.
The high speed elimination process of suspended solid was investigated to treat the pulp waste water by using surface modified magnetite particle and magnetic power. The effects of the various aluminum salts such as Al(NO3)3·9H2O, AlCl3·6H2O, Al2(SO4)3·13~14 on the COD, BOD and suspended solid were systematically studied. It has been found that the 2.0 wt% of Al was most effective for the modification of Fe3O4 powder and then best for the treatment of pulp waste water. Optimum quantity of modified magnetite in this study was 12 wt%, and aging time was found to be 12 hours. Comparing with the conventional process, the required time for SS removal was drastically decreased. BOB and COD were also effectively removed when applied to the pulp wastewater.
