Three unrecorded species of free-living marine nematodes, belonging to genus Enoplus Dujardin, 1845 collected from rocky intertidal seagrass on the eastern coast of Korea, are described and illustrated. Enoplus taipingensis Zhang and Zhou, 2012 is characterized by longer body size, a series of lateral setae throughout the tail in male, the presence of trumpet-shaped precloacal supplement with well-dilated proximal end, and the presence of spicules with five to eight semicircular plates. Enoplus meridionalis Steiner, 1921 is characterized by the presence of trumpetshaped precloacal supplement with slightly dilated proximal end, paired massive spicules, and tail with two pairs of stout terminal setae. Enoplus mammillatus Timm, 1959 is easily distinguished from the congeners by narrow tubular-shaped precloacal supplement. In this study, we provide detailed morphological features of three Enoplus species by differential interference contrast microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. This is the first report on the species of the genus Enoplus from the Korean waters.

A new Hibiscus cultivar ‘Tohagol Red’ with unique flower shape and color, uniform growth habit and hardiness was developed through interspecific hybridization between Hibiscus sinosyriacus and H. syriacus. A new cultivar 'Tohagol Red' (Hibiscus × ‘Tohagol Red’) developed after crossing between Hibiscus sinosyriacus ‘Seobong’ ( ♀) with pink flower and Hibiscus syriacus ‘Samchully’ with pink flower to improve flower quality and growth habit in 2002. Hibiscus ‘Tohagol Red’ was preliminarily selected as ‘R 202’ in 2004 for its stable flower quality with rich pink flower and ruffled petals. This cultivar had violet purple, ruffled flowers accented by an intense red eye. Large and showy, the overlapping flower petals formed a complete circle and then named ‘Tohagol Red’ in 2010. The tree showed medium growth habit with slightly upright branch. The selected line was further evaluated for different growth characteristics, leaf shape, leaf size, flowering characteristics, and tested for distinctness, homogeneity, and stability during 2004-2009. In The flowers are medium in size (11 ~ 13 cm) with fan (II-type) petal having width 9.2 cm. Leaves are 7.2 cm long and 5.4 cm wide. After the plant characteristics evaluation for 6 years (2004 ~ 2009), it was registered as a cultivar ‘Tohagol Red’ (3803, No. of plant variety protection rights) in 2011. ‘Tohagol Red’ having violet-purple flower and red eye with ruffled petals is an excellent garden plant.

A new gregarine parasite (Apicomplexa: Protozoa) was observed in the population of the striped cabbage flea-beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in Hoengseong-gun. Gregarines are well known species-specific parasites of various Arthropoda. Based on 954bp of 18S rDNA sequence, this gregarine species was grouped in eugregarine and also this new gregarine showed 85% homology that of the reported Gregarina sp. from daikon leaf beetle, Phaedon brassicae (FJ481523). These two coleopteran hosts were generally found coexist in highland cabbage fields. However, after gut dissection (n>50), each species confirmed has their own gregarine parasite species. These results were identical in surveyed three local populations (Pyeongchang-gun, Hoengseong-gun and Inje-gun). Therefore, we suggested that the gregarines and their coleopteran hosts has species specific interaction via co-evolution.

The Ceratovacuna aphids are one of the major gall-forming aphids. Four Ceratovacuna aphids have been reported from East Asia including Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. In Korea, only one species, Ceratovacuna nekoashi (Sasaki), has been confirmed amongst the four species, and yet their colonies have been found only from the banana bundle or cats-paw shaped galls on the primary hosts, Styrax trees (Styraceae). Colonies on the secondary hosts (Gramineae) have not been seen from Korea nor confirmed from Taiwan, although they are usually seen from Japan limitedly on stiltgrass Microstegium vimineum. Recently in Korea, a colony consisting of an emigrant and first instar soldiers were found from a grass species, Seteria sp. that have not been reported as a secondary host of C. nekoashi. Identity of C. nekoashi is definite based on morphology of the first instar soldier. Genetic identity is being explored for confirmation.

Orussidae is a unique family belonging to the ‘Symphyta’, Hymenoptera. It is a small group of parasitoid sawflies, consisting of about 90 known extant species in 15 genera in the world. Most species of Orussidae are thermophilous and imagines are active during the hottest hours of the day. Therefore, orussids are rarely collected. They are known to be idiobiont ectoparasitoids of larvae of wood-boring beetles such as Buprestidae and Cerambycidae or Hymenoptera such as Siricidae and Xiphydriidae, although records of orussids parasitizing introduced siricids in New Zealand do not constitute a natural host relationship. Within the family, Orussus is the largest and most widely distributed genus. Currently, 28 valid species are recognized. Recently, Vilhelmsen et al. (2014) reported three new species of the genus Orussus from the Oriental region. Here we describe a new species, Orussus sp. nov., from South Korea and provide a revised key to the eastern Palaearctic species of Orussidae. Also, phylogenetic analyses place the new species basally in Orussus, together with other species from the Far East.

The subfamily of Phycitinae is one of the largest groups in family Pyralidae, as Solis and Mitter (1992) estimated, about 4000 species in the world. The Phycitinae are characterized by the following characteristics: forewings long and narrow, with 11 veins or less, R3 and R4 stalked at base or fused completely, both male and female with only one frenulum; gnathos usually rod-shaped or coniform; valva usually hairy, with well-developed costa, sacculus well-sclerotized, shorter than valva, transtilla free or connected at top, juxta and vinculum U-shaped; most of male with culcita; ductus bursae usually from corpus bursae. The larvae of phycitinae are leaf rollers, leaf bores and leaf miners, also they are predators and products pests. Their distribution is throughout the world (Munroe and Solis, 1999). Leech and South (1901) first reported 3 species of Phycitini from the Korean Peninsula; after that, several researchers respectively made contributions to the fauna of Korean Phycitinae. Until 2008, Bae et al. recorded 79 species from South Korea. Currently, Qi and Bae (2014) added two more phycitinae species for Korea. In the present study, we identified two more Phycitinae species which are newly recorded from Korea. The morphology of adults and genitalia are redescribed and illustrated, the specimens examined are deposited in Incheon National University, Korea.
