The emergence of a new marketing channel affects the economy by expanding the consumer's choice of products, altering the competitiveness of retail markets and having an influence on manufacturers' profitability. The electronic commerce channel through the Internet constitutes a typical marketing channel with these features. In this paper, we construct a vertical product differentiation model comprising an upstream manufacturer and two downstream retailers. Our model is closely related to that in Chiang, Chhajed and Hess (2003). We incorporate cost asymmetry across the retailers into the model, a new feature which is not in their model. In this model, the manufacturer not only produces a physical product it sells to the downstream retailers, but also has an option of "versioning" to open a new direct channel for an alternate digital product. We find that, when the marginal cost of the physical product is in some range given other cost parameters, the direct digital channel reduces the quantity of the physical product sold by the inefficient retailer even if it increases total quantity of the physical product. We also find that, when it is higher than the above-mentioned range, the direct digital channel increases the quantity of the physical product sold by the efficient retailer even if it reduces its total quantity. Cost asymmetry across the retailers plays a role in these results. Taking the above results into account, we discuss managerial implications for a manufacturer supplying the physical and digital products.
Every year, China’s air quality is reaching hazardous level. Accordingly, China is adapting stringent environmental regulations under the new 13th Five Year Plan. The noticeable developments in the new air pollution regulations include: (1) mandatory air pollutant disclosure requirement; (2) shift towards non-compliance liability rule; and (3) increased penalty for transgression against wider range of industries. This paper first explains that these developments will induce American investments in China to carefully draft investment contracts, particularly confidentiality and limited liability clauses to minimize the risk of harsher penalties. The paper then argues that China’s stringent pollution regulations will not negatively affect American investment trend in China, mainly because most American investments already adhere to the OECD standard, and disclosing environmental information will enhance entity’s good reputation and attract investors.
Business model of direct selling is the dynamic and complex multi-level structure. Interpersonal face-to-face communication is the key value creation aspect of direct selling business model. Nowadays more and more sellers employ virtual communication channels instead of face-to-face, thus hindering a traditional relational element. The study explores whether usage of Internet technologies for communication with customers brings benefits or extinguish the direct selling industry. The research is based on the quantitative analysis of all-country paper based survey from 5694 respondents. The statistical analysis of total sample revealed that usage of Internet in general does not give advantages for distributors. However, usage of person-to-person internet communication tool, such as e-mail, allows achieving better performance as measured by earnings per hour worked. Surprising is the fact that the most successful young distributors (at the age under 35 years) do not use internet for communication with customers at all. For distributors over 35 years old neither internet nor e-mail usages have got impact on performance. In rural areas users of internet communication tools show lower performance results. In big cities usage of e-mail provides significantly higher performance, but general usage of internet does not. Consequently, the effects from usage of internet technologies for communication with customers are achieved in case of person-to-person communication. Moreover the most productive sellers give priority to the live communication.
미국 AASHTO LRFD(AASHTO, 2012)나 국내의 도로교설계기준(2012)의 차랑충돌에 대한 교각설계기준을 참조하면 교각 설계 시 차량충돌에 대해 정적인 하중을 고려하도록 제시하고 있다. 한편 2003년 미국 네브래스카 주에 트럭이 교각에 충돌하여 교각 및 교량 상부구조가 붕괴되는 사고가 발생하는 등 차량충돌에 의한 교량붕괴사고는 홍수에 의한 교량붕괴사고에 이은 두 번째 요인으로 분류되기도 한다. 화물차량의 대형화와 도로시스템의 개선으로 인하여 이러한 사고가 발생할 가능성이 중가하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 교각 설계시 차량충돌에 대한 동적 해석을 수행하게 되면 많은 비용과 시간이 소요되어 실용적인 측면에서 연구결과가 쉽게 반영되지 못하고 있으므로 충돌해석 비용과 시간을 저감할 수 있는 모델축소법(model reduction)을 이용한 해석방법을 개발하였으며 그 효용성을 최종변위에 대해 직접충돌해석결과와 비교함으로써 평가하였다.
본 연구에서는 차량과 교각의 직접충돌해석을 통하여 기존 설계기준(도로교설계기준, AASHOTO LRFD)에서 아직 고려하고 있지 않은 동적영향을 고려한 실제 교각의 충돌 파괴 거동을 다양한 경계조건별로 검토하였다. 선정된 차량은 10톤, 16톤, 38톤의 Cargo 트럭이며 교각은 경부고속도로 상 일반적인 제원으로 선정하였다. 해석결과 가장 많은 파괴는 상부구조의 고려없이 교각의 상부면을 구속하였을 시에 발생하였으며 상부구조는 2차적인 영향을 교각에 전달하기 보다는 충돌에너지를 일부 흡수하는 역할을 하며 파괴를 감소시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 해석의 효율성을 위해 차량과 강체간 충돌시 발생하는 충돌하중이력곡선을 교각에 외력으로 부여한 간접충돌해석을 수행하고, 이를 직접충돌해석 결과와 비교하였다. 해석결과 직접충돌해석 결과와 매우 유사하게 교각의 거동을 예측하는 것으로 확인되었으며 해석효율성 또한 높아져 해석시간은 약 92%정도 감소하였다. 이러한 간접충돌해석법은 다양한 기존 모델이나 다른 해석프로그램에도 쉽게 부여될 수 있어 그 활용범위가 증가할 것으로 판단된다.
Foreign factors play an important role in the socio-economic development of each country, in which foreign direct investment (FDI), foreign aid and exports of goods and services are always given top priority in undeveloped countries as well as developing countries. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the various factors such as FDI, foreign aid, exports and economic growth in Vietnam. The empirical method employed secondary time-series data set during the period 1997-2018 to determine the impact of FDI, foreign aid and exports on economic growth in Vietnam by using a linear approach. For this study, data is collected from the World Bank and relevant agencies in Vietnam. An empirical model is built with a correlation and regression analysis between economic growth (GDP, current) and three independent variables (FDI, aid, exports of goods and services). The results show that the relationship between FDI (net inflows), aid, exports and GDP (current) has a positive effect at a 1% significance level. Based on these findings, the article recommends that Vietnam continues to seek effective solutions to maintain high economic growth rates by attracting FDI inflows, official development assistance (ODA), and increasing exports of goods and services.
The study aims to assess the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) and international trade (export and import) on Vietnam's economic growth for the 2000-2018 period. Secondary data is taken from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam. Ordinary least-square method is used in analyzing the impact of FDI, export and import on economic growth of Vietnam. Empirical test results show that FDI and international trade are related to Vietnam's economic growth. However, each economic variable has a different impact. FDI has a positive and statistically significant influence on economic growth of Vietnam. Export also has positive and statistically significant impact to the economic growth, while import has a negative but not statistically significant effect. The result is useful for the policy makers of Vietnam on foreign economic relations. In order to improve the effect of FDI and international trade on growth of the economy, the government of Vietnam should: (1) continue applying preferential policies to attract FDI; (2) select foreign investors aiming to quality, efficiency, high technology and environmental protection; (3) continue pursuing export-oriented policy; (4) enhance the added value of exported goods and control the type of imported goods; (5) further liberalize trade through signing and implementation of international trade commitments.
Tax can be categorised into direct tax and indirect tax. This paper uses the ordinary least-squares regression method to study the impact of direct and indirect tax on economic growth in Vietnam in the period 2003-2017. Statistical data is collected from the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam. Theoretically, tax generates the state budget revenue and is a tool to regulate the economy. The results of statistical tests show that tax has a positive impact on Vietnam's economic growth. However, the effects of direct tax and indirect tax are different. The indirect tax has a positive influence and promote Vietnam's economic growth, while the impact of the direct tax is invisible. There has not been sufficient evidence to confirm that the indirect tax has a more positive impact than the direct tax. To promote economic growth, Vietnam needs to restructure its tax system towards: (1) Increasing the proportion of indirect tax, reducing the proportion of direct tax in the state budget revenue; (2) Expanding tax bases; (3) Reducing tax rates of corporate income tax and personal income tax; (4) Increasing tax rates of environmental protection tax, natural resources tax, value added tax and excise tax on some types of goods which harm health and environment.
중국 2014년 전체 해외직접투자액이 1231.1 억 달러로 미국과 홍콩에 이어서 세계 3위를 기록하였 다. 앞으로 중국의 해외직접투자는 장기적인 성장세를 이어갈 것으로 예상되며 해외자본스톡 규모가 확대됨에 따라 중국의 국제무역에 미치는 효과도 함께 커질 것으로 전망된다. 따라서 본 연구는 중국 해외직접투자가 중국 무역에 미치는 효과를 살펴보기 위해 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과는 해외 직접투자는 수출과 수입을 모두 증대시키는 것으로 드러났다. 즉 중국의 해외직접투자 금액이 1% 증 가할 때 수출은 0.085%, 수입은 0.028% 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 중국 기업들은 현지시장 진 출을 목적으로 현지국에 투자할 때 국내에서 중간재나 부품을 조달하여 현지에서 완제품을 생산하므 로 국내 수출이 해외투자와 보완관계에 있지만 생산 이후 현지시장에 판매하므로 국내로의 역수입에 대한 영향이도 존재하는데 이 수입효과가 수출효과보다 크지 않는 것을 판단할 수 있다. 즉 전체적으 로 보면 중국 해외직접투자가 무역수지를 개선할 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 한편, 지역별 분석결과 를 살펴보면 동부와 중서부지역에서도 무역개선효과가 존재하는데 동부지역의 수출/수입에 보완효과 가 중서부보다 비교적 현조하다는 것을 알 수 있다.
Current design codes (AASHTO, Korean Highway Bridge Design Code) do not account for dynamic effects. Since, the dynamic impact analysis is complicate to recommend and analysis. In this study, concrete bridge column were developed with two boundary conditions in order to take account dynamic behavior of the column and in-direct impact analysis was conducted. Furthermore, a comparison study of in-direct impact analysis with direct impact analysis was conducted.
Current design standards (Korea Highway Bridge Design, AASHTO), the dynamic behavior under the impact loading has not been considered, only considered static force for designing bridge column against vehicle collisions. In this study, vehicle collisions to concrete bridge column were developed with various boundary conditions, and a comparison study of direct impact analysis of vehicle to bridge-column with in-direct impact analysis was performed.
한·중 수교 전에 양국 간 교역은 홍콩을 경유한 간접교역 형태로 이루어져서 양국 간 교역액은 미미하였다. 1992년 8월 24일에는 한·중 수교가 이루어지면서 한국이 대중국 해외직접투자를 시작했다. 그리고 중국정부의 적극적인 외국인직접 투자 유치정책, 중국시장의 잠재력과 지리적 근접성, 조선족 노동력 활용의 용이성, 양국경제의 상호 보완성 등이 복합적으로 작용하여 중국은 한국기업이 가장선호하는 투자대상국이 되었다. 한국은 대중국직접투자의 산업별의 효과에 대해서는 지금까지 많은 논의가 있어서 본 연구는 중국의 1998-2011년 데이터를 이용하여 한국의 대중국직접투자와 지역별로 수출입에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 시사점을 찾아보고자 한다. 분석의 결과는 한국 대중국 외국인직접투자가 동부지역은 FDI의 유입이 중국 대한국의 수출입의 영향을 중·서부보다 효과가 크게 나타나다. 이러한 이유는 한국대중국 외국인직접투자가 동부 연해지역에 집중되기 때문이고 반면에 중·서부지역은 동부지역에 비해 중·서부지역의 경우 투자 환경 및 기반시설이 미비하여 외국인직접투자가 미미하다.
