This study investigates the applicability and feasibility of introducing lightweight safety helmets in industrial workplaces, with the aim of identifying subsequent research needs. Conventional industrial helmets often present limitations such as excessive weight, discomfort during prolonged use, and reduced compliance among workers—factors that may diminish protective performance and hinder the establishment of a strong safety culture. Recent advances in materials engineering and ergonomic design have renewed interest in lightweight safety helmets as a potential alternative capable of enhancing user comfort and improving wear-ability. To evaluate their practical adoption, this study examines the essential safety performance requirements of lightweight helmets, including impact absorption, durability, and structural stability, as well as their suitability across diverse work environments. Additionally, factors such as user acceptance, cost-effectiveness, and industry-specific operational demands are analyzed to determine the overall feasibility of implementation. Based on these multidimensional assessments, the study identifies key gaps and proposes future research directions necessary for the development, standardization, and field validation of lightweight helmets. The findings aim to provide foundational evidence to support the broader adoption of lightweight protective equipment and contribute to the advancement of worker safety in evolving industrial environments.
In Hanoks which are Korean traditional houses, gudeuls (ondols) are more important than other elements. Recently, demand for Hanoks has been rapidly increasing thanks to the effects of Korean waves and rediscovery of traditions. This paper traced the process of development of gudeul construction technology to examine the definitions of terns and changes in the types of gudeuls and discussed the prospect of future gudeul construction technology.
Desalination is getting more attention as an alternative to solve a global water shortage problem in the future. Especially, a desalination technology is being expected as a new growth engine of Korea’s overseas plant business besides one of the solutions of domestic water shortage problem. In the past, a thermal evaporation technology was a predominant method in desalination market, but more than 75% of the current market is hold by a membrane-based reverse osmosis technology because of its lower energy consumption rate for desalination. In the future, it is expected to have more energy efficient desalination process. Accordingly, various processes are being developed to further enhance the desalination energy efficiency. One of the promising technologies is a desalination process combined with Pressure Retarded Osmosis (PRO) process. The PRO technology is able to generate energy by using osmotic pressure of seawater or desalination brine. And the other benefits are that it has no emission of CO2 and the limited impact of external environmental factors. However, it is not commercialized yet because a high-performance PRO membrane and module, and a PRO system optimization technology is not sufficiently developed. In this paper, the recent research direction and progress of the SWRO-PRO hybrid desalination was discussed regarding a PRO membrane and module, an energy recovery system, pre-treatment and system optimization technologies, and so on.
