Korea's defense industry has been fostered as a protection industry in which the government directly controls prices, quantities, and costs for the past 40 years, and it is deepening into a low-efficiency industrial structure. By implementing the Defense Industry Building Act in 2021, the government is creating a healthy ecosystem for the defense industry and strengthening its global competitiveness. In this study, based on KPC's Productivity Management System (PMS), a diagnostic model of defense companies that has been implemented since 2013, on-site diagnosis was performed from 4 to 28 days depending on the size of the company, and data was collected based on the results. For the effect of innovation capability on productivity performance, the causal relationship was analyzed through structural equation model path analysis. As a result, it suggests that defense materials suppliers should focus on which core processes to innovate and strengthen and improve their innovation capabilities.
As competition among companies has intensified and the life cycle of products has been shortened, strong innovation is needed to meet consumers' needs. In addition, it is necessary to shorten the life cycle of the product and reduce the time required for technology development for the competitive advantage of the product. In particular, venture companies where new technologies and ideas are important require more innovative capabilities than others companies. Therefore, this study analyzed the impact of technology innovation capabilities (product development process capability, human resource capability and financial capability) on sales by technology development for small and medium venture companies and analyzed moderating effect of technology development period on the relationship between technology innovation capabilities and sales by technology development. The data of 'Small and Medium Business Technology Statistics' collected by the government every year were used for analysis. Technology-intensive ventures were extracted from this data. In addition, the moderating effect was analyzed through hierarchical regression analysis. This study shows that product planning capability, test capability, and R&D expenditure have a positive impact on sales by technology development. In this study, the product development period showed a positive moderating effect on product development capability and sales performance. On the other hand, the product development period showed a negative moderating effect on R&D expenditure and sales by technology development.
The benefits of being customer-oriented for building firm innovativeness remain ambiguous among academics, with some scholars claiming a customer-orientation fosters organizational innovation competencies, whereas some others argue that it merely inhibits innovation processes. A review of research on the effect of customer orientation on innovation activities are inconclusive, with some studies supporting a positive relationship, while others reporting mixed results. With many firms investing in activities to get to know their customers and in innovation activities, managers need an understanding of the role of customer-oriented behaviors on firm innovation practices.
This paper examines the determinates of subsidiary product innovation in the Chinese market based on a sample 680 EU subsidiaries over the period of 1998-2009. To date, the literature on EU subsidiaries has failed to consider product innovation in the marketing strategy interplay in approaching new markets overseas. Building on Resource Based view linked with Chinese institutional factors, it empirically examines the inferential product innovation strategy in an EU-China context. By applying the econometric analyses techniques to investigate innovation determinants and to test the presence of agglomeration effect of past innovation activities. The results show EU MNC subsidiaries’ innovation is influenced by both host country institutions and firm capabilities, rendering support to the theory. The analysis indicates EU subsidiaries’ innovation is positively related to firm advertisement, labour training and host market size. R&D expenditure has a negative bearing on innovation. However, openness has a negative and significant effect on product innovation in China. The findings have important implications for theory, practitioners and policy-making. This study contributes to the literature on the evolution of MNCs by exploring determinants of developed foreign subsidiaries’ innovation activities in emerging markets.
In this paper, due to the instability of the domestic market, global competition is intensifying in the current situation of global capacity building of SMEs for the purpose of developing a diagnostic indicator placed on the purpose. In this model, the results of applying several companies overall global innovation pilot enterprises and non-rated global innovative companies awarded significant difference between the score and the ability to believe the show. Non-global innovation companies, the relative firm size factor and R&D investment and patent number of factors are lacking appeared shone This is a common small business nature of the majority of companies small and R&D investment, the absolute amount is insufficient to reflect that, but the global innovator in the case of firm size and the relatively large amount of investment that never shows.
This paper analyses the importance of innovation for 680 EU multinationals subsidiaries involved in international marketing in China, the period of 1998-2009, using unbalanced panel data analysis. To date, the literature on EU subsidiaries has failed to consider product innovation in the strategy interplay in approaching new markets overseas. Building on the resource-based view of the firm, linked with host economic and political institutions, the authors empirically examine the inferential marketing strategy in an EU-China context, by applying econometric techniques to investigate innovation capabilities and to test the presence of agglomeration effect of past innovation activities. We find that EU innovation in China is influenced by both host country institutions and firm capabilities, rendering support to the theory. Our analysis indicates EU subsidiaries’ innovation is positively related to firm advertisement, labour training and host market size. R&D expenditure has a negative bearing on innovation. However, openness has a negative and significant effect on product innovation in China. The study findings have important implications for research on international marketing, new venture decision making, and overseas innovation expansion strategies.
Research underlined that Small and Medium Enterprises’ performance is enhanced by different types of innovation capabilities. This research tends to present a comprehensive model to explain the relationship between innovation capabilities and SMEs’ financial and operational performance. Specifically, this study tends to achieve three objectives: explores the set of product, process, organizational and marketing innovation capabilities possessed by owners/managers of SMEs and their impact on Chinese manufacturing SMEs’ operational and financial performance dimensions, identify the determinants of innovation capabilities, and determine the contextual factors that moderate innovation capabilities and SMEs’ performance. This research employed a qualitative research method using in-depth interviews with eight owners/managers of Chinese manufacturing SMEs. Research findings revealed that product and marketing innovation capabilities have a significant impact on SMEs’ financial performance while process and organizational innovation capabilities positively influence SMEs’ operational performance. The major determinants of innovation capabilities involved availability of sufficient organizational resources, entrepreneurial orientation, knowledge development and external networks. The contextual moderating factors on the relationship between innovation capabilities and SMEs’ performance involved internal factors which are: SME size, SMEs’ owner/manager work experience, entrepreneurial mindset; and external factors: market dynamism and cooperation strategies. This paper ends by drawing some concluding remarks and proposing future research avenues.
The paper proposes a conceptual model which provides direction for researchers to empirically establish the connections between dynamic capabilities, innovation capabilities, entrepreneurial capabilities and financial and strategic performance. The author uses systematic literature review process to select the articles used in this study. First, the present paper review and discuss some major contributions to the theories of dynamic capabilities, innovation capabilities, entrepreneurial capabilities and their consequences. The author seeks to highlight different understandings of the concepts to clarify the distinctions between them. Second, the conceptual model and propositions for future studies were developed. The proposed model highlights the different measures of dynamic capabilities, innovation capabilities, entrepreneurial capabilities and their consequences. The model with its associated propositions was developed base on limitations and gaps observed from past studies. It is focused on empirically testing the direct impact of dynamic capabilities, innovation capabilities, and entrepreneurial capabilities on the performance of SMEs in Vietnam. Nevertheless, the proposed model can be applied to similar situations in different contexts and countries. Further empirical testing of proposed model would contribute to enriching existing knowledge of dynamic capabilities, innovation capabilities and entrepreneurial capabilities within SMEs and how these capabilities foster superior performance.
