This study investigates the social construction and continual (re)production of the cultural Other through educational materials, focusing on Korean middle school English textbooks. Twelve middle school English textbooks from four publishers were collected and analyzed, with a focus on how they (mis)represent cultures and practices of minority groups. Utilizing critical content analysis to examine both visual and written texts in the textbooks, this research uncovers recurring patterns of exoticizing and commodifying Hawai’ian culture, homogenizing African culture, and romanticizing Indigenous peoples. The findings contribute significantly to our understanding of how cultural representations in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) textbooks shape perceptions and influence societal dynamics. They also illuminate how these representations reflect and perpetuate Eurocentric colonialist discourse. Moreover, the results underscore the importance of equipping educators, especially English teachers, with critical literacy. This empowers them to identify hidden power relations that reinforce stereotypes, and actively engage in the construction of a more inclusive and equitable society.

The resolution process of PPI scandal was led and driven by the UK’s FCA- financial regulator based on powers stipulated in Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. FCA made rules requiring financial institutions concerned to assess mis-selling claims of PPI holders and pay redress to them if mis-selling was found. The opt-out class action, in contrast, is not likely to handle finance mis-selling collectively because commonality requirement is not easily satisfied. The PPI resolution process overcame this problem by assigning the investigation and assessment of individual aspects of the disputes to the financial institutions concerned. This approach is equitable in that financial institutions which are liable to the scandal bears the time and pecuniary cost instead of relying on public resources of courts as in the litigation. The regulator-led resolution can be helpful in designing collective resolution system of finance mis-selling which is characterized as mass victims with small damages.

We performed temperature dependent current-voltage (I-V) measurements to characterize the electrical properties of Au/Al2O3/n-Ge metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) diodes prepared with and without H2O prepulse treatment by atomic layer deposition (ALD). By considering the thickness of the Al2O3 interlayer, the barrier height for the treated sample was found to be 0.61 eV, similar to those of Au/n-Ge Schottky diodes. The thermionic emission (TE) model with barrier inhomogeneity explained the final state of the treated sample well. Compared to the untreated sample, the treated sample was found to have improved diode characteristics for both forward and reverse bias conditions. These results were associated with the reduction of charge trapping and interface states near the Ge/Al2O3 interface.

In this study, we used I-V spectroscopy, photoconductivity (PC) yield and internal photoemission (IPE) yield using IPE spectroscopy to characterize the Schottky barrier heights (SBH) at insulator-semiconductor interfaces of Pt/HfO2/p-type Si metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) capacitors. The leakage current characteristics of the MIS capacitor were analyzed according to the J-V and C-V curves. The leakage current behavior of the capacitors, which depends on the applied electric field, can be described using the Poole-Frenkel (P-F) emission, trap assisted tunneling (TAT), and direct tunneling (DT) models. The leakage current transport mechanism is controlled by the trap level energy depth of HfO2. In order to further study the SBH and the electronic tunneling mechanism, the internal photoemission (IPE) yield was measured and analyzed. We obtained the SBH values of the Pt/HfO2/p-type Si for use in Fowler plots in the square and cubic root IPE yield spectra curves. At the Pt/HfO2/p-type Si interface, the SBH difference, which depends on the electrical potential, is related to (1) the work function (WF) difference and between the Pt and p-type Si and (2) the sub-gap defect state features (density and energy) in the given dielectric.

운송물을 선하증권과 상환하지 않고 선하증권의 정당한 소지인이 아닌 타인 에게 인도한 경우 선박소유자 등이 책임제한을 할 수 있는지 여부에 대해서는, 국내외의 견해가 일치하지 않는다. 영국의 경우, 선박소유자 등의 책임제한 내 지 면책의 허용 여부는 계약해석의 문제로서, 계약자유의 원칙상 계약당사자는 책임제한 내지 면책을 원칙적으로 자유로이 규정할 수 있다고 본다. 다만 당사 자 사이의 책임제한 등에 관한 규정은 명확하고 상세하게 규정되어야 한다. 따 라서 선박소유자 등에 대한 채권이 상법 제769조 제1호의 책임제한채권에 해당하는지 여부를 논하기에 앞서, 용선계약 내지 운송계약상 선박소유자 등의 책 임제한을 인정하는 당사자의 합의가 있었는지 여부를 검토할 필요가 있다. 한 편 선박소유자 등의 책임제한 내지 면책에 관한 논의는 이들의 책임기간과 대 응하여 고찰할 필요가 있고, 1976년 책임제한조약은 운송인의 책임제한에 관한 국제적 입법례와 상호 영향을 주고받으면서 발전해 왔다는 점을 감안할 필요가 있다. 특히 헤이그 비스비규칙은 운송인의 책임기간을 선적시부터 양하시까지 로 한정하고 있다는 점에서, 1976년 책임제한조약이 선박소유자 등의 책임제한 채권을 원칙적으로 「선박에서 또는 선박의 운항에 직접 관련하여 발생한 손해 에 관한 채권 또는 그러한 손해로 인한 연속적 손해에 관한 채권」으로 제한한 것은 선박소유자 등의 책임제한채권의 인정범위를 책임기간에 일치시키고자 한 것으로 보인다. 1976년 책임제한조약의 입법취지는 책임제한채권을 제한하 려는 것이 아니라, 책임제한채권을 확대하여 사실상 깨어지지 않는 책임제한제 도를 확립하고자 한 것에 있다는 점은, 우리 상법상 책임제한제도의 운영에 있 어서도 경청할 필요가 있다. 1976년 책임제한조약의 입법취지를 감안한다면, 선 하증권과 상환하지 않고 운송물을 증권의 정당한 소지인이 아닌 타인에게 인도 함으로써 손해가 발생한 경우에도 그러한 손해도 원칙적으로 1976년 책임제한 조약 제2조에서 규정한 책임제한채권에 포함하되, 선박소유자 등에게 동 조약 제4조 또는 상법 제769조에서 규정하고 있는 고의 등 책임제한의 주관적 배제 사유가 존재하는 경우에는 책임제한권을 부정하는 것이 타당할 것이다.

This study investigated whether people experience a correspondence between color hue-tone and the main characters’ emotions in the 2012 British musical drama film, Les Misérables through three practical experiments. Six screen images, which represent the characters’ different emotions (Parrot’s six primary types including love, joy, surprise, anger, sadness, and fear) were selected. For each screen image, participants were asked to judge the degree of the character’s dominant emotions evoked from 17 varied screen images, which consisted of original chromatic and achromatized images as well as 15 color-filtered images (5 hues X 3 tones of the IRI color system). These tasks revealed that a chromatic color scheme is more effective to deliver the characters’ positive emotions (i.e. love and joy) than an achromatic one. In addition, they proved that the hue and tone dimensions partially influence the relationships between the character emotions and colors.

W. B. 예이츠의 시의 번역의 역사는 1918년 김안서(1893-195?)가 처음 번역하여 서울의 한 서구문학번역 주간지에 실린 예이츠의 8행시 “그는 하늘의 천을 원하네”(1899년 작)로 거슬러 올라간다. 그 이후 이 시는 100년 동안 시인들과 작가들 에 의해 계속적으로 번역되었고, 가장 최근 2006년에는 17번째 번역이 나왔다. 본고는 이 시의 번역에서 어휘의 선택, 문장의 배열, 태도, 영향, 등에 대한 평을 한다. 본고 는 최초로 김안서의 번역이 영어원전의 번역이 아니라 구리야가와 하쿠손(1880-1923) 의 1905년 일본어 번역의 중역인 것을 보여주며, 또한 복수와 단수명사의 구분을 무 시하는 한국어 번역의 특성도 지적하며, 마지막으로 미래의 번역가들이 주의해야 할 문제들도 다룬다.

본 연구는 소프트웨어적인 기술인 경영정보시스템(MIS)의 발전과정을 기술추격 관점에서 분석한다. 분석사례로는 창업 당시 후발업체로 선진국 기업을 모방하였지만 현재는 MIS 분야에서 선도적인 위치에 서게 된 POSCO를 선정하였다. 기술추격과정 분석을 위해 김인수의 기술혁신단계모델, Henderson and Clark의 유동기 진입이론, Doering and Parayre의 불확실한 기술에 대한 의사결정이론, Nolan의 MIS 발전단계모델 등 네 가지 모델을 활용하였다. 연구결과, POSCO의 MIS기술 발전과정은 기술후진국이 밟는 전형적인 기술추격과정, 즉 경화기→ 과도기→ 유동기로 이행하면서 모방에서 혁신으로 그 위상이 바뀐 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 장치산업이라는 철강산업의 산업적 특성으로 제조기술 및 MIS기술이 커다란 기술패러다임의 변화 없이 유동기로 진입하였으며, MIS 분야에 대한 기업경영자의 역할이 기술추격의 주요 성공요인으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 POSCO는 MIS분야에서 착수→ 확장 → 공식화 → 통합의 단계를 거쳐 왔을 뿐만 아니라, 반복적인 피드백 혹은 반복학습을 통하여 MIS 기술능력을 축적한 결과 기술 추종적 위치에서 기술 선도적 위치로 전환된 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 기업의 기술혁신전략 수립 시에 기술혁신의 진행경로, 산업기술의 특성, 의사결정자의 역할, 반복학습 및 피드백의 중요성 등이 고려될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

In order to streamline the procedure of data transmission in port and logistics industries, MOMAF introduced EDI systems as the method of data transmission of 19 documents 5 years ago. While operating EDI system, MOMAF has found the inconvenience and the inefficiency of using EDI systems in the field of requesting fast response. This thesis focuses on finding the possible fields of on-line processing system. The result of the paper presents that if data transmission area such as 'application for pilot'is changed to on-line processing method, the processing cost and time will be reduced compared with EDI processing method.
