A precipitation behavior of nano-oxide particle in Fe-5Y2O3 alloy powders is studied. The mechanically alloyed Fe-5Y2O3 powders are pressed at 750oC for 1h, 850oC for 1h and 1150oC for 1h, respectively. The results of Xray diffraction pattern analysis indicate that the Y2O3 diffraction peak disappear after mechanically alloying process, but Y2O3 and YFe2O4 complex oxide precipitates peak are observed in the powders pressed at 1150oC. The differential scanning calorimetry study results reveal that the formation of precipitates occur at around 1054oC. Based on the transmission electron microscopy analysis result, the oxide particles with a composition of Y-Fe-O are found in the Fe-5Y2O3 alloy powders pressed at 1150oC. It is thus conclude that the mechanically alloyed Fe-5Y2O3 powders have no precipitates and the oxide particles in the powders are formed by a high temperature heat-treatment

Fe-based oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) powders were produced by high energy ball milling, fol- lowed by spark plasma sintering (SPS) for consolidation. The mixed powders of 84Fe-14Cr-2Y2O3 (wt%) were mechanically milled for 10 and 90 mins, and then consolidated at different temperatures (900~1100o C). Mechani- cally-Alloyed (MAed) particles were examined by means of cross-sectional images using scanning electron micros- copy (SEM). Both mechanical alloying and sintering behavior was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). To confirm the thermal behavior of Y2O3, a replica method was applied after the SPS process. From the SEM observation, MAed powders milled for 10 min showed a lamella structure consisting of rich regions of Fe and Cr, while both regions were fully alloyed after 90 min. The results of sintering behavior clearly indicate that as the SPS temperature increased, micro-sized defects decreased and the den- sity of consolidated ODS alloys increased. TEM images revealed that precipitates smaller than 50 nm consisted of YCrO3.

The present work investigated the dispersion behavior of Y2O3 particles into AISI 316L SS manufactured using laser cladding technology. The starting particles were produced by high energy ball milling in 10 min for pre- alloying, which has a trapping effect and homogeneous dispersion of Y2O3 particles, followed by laser cladding using CO2 laser source. The phase and crystal structures of the cladded alloys were examined by XRD, and the cross section was characterized using SEM. The detailed microstructure was also studied through FE-TEM. The results clearly indi- cated that as the amount of Y2O3 increased, micro-sized defects consisted of coarse Y2O3 were increased. It was also revealed that homogeneously distributed spherical precipitates were amorphous silicon oxides containing yttrium. This study represents much to a new technology for the manufacture and maintenance of ODS alloys.

Eu red phosphor was prepared by microwave synthesis. The crystal phase, particle morphology, and luminescent properties were characterized by XRD, SEM, and spectrofluorometer, respectively. The prepared :Eu particles had good crystallinity and strong red emission under ultravioletet excitation. The crystallite size increased with calcination temperature and satuarated at . The primary particle size initially formed was varied from 30 to 450 nm with microwave-irradiation (MI) time. It was found that the emission intensity of :Eu phosphor strongly depends on the MI time. In terms of the emission intensity, it was recommended that the MI time should be less than 15 min. The emission intensity of :Eu phosphor prepared by microwave syntehsis strongly depended on the crystallite size of which an optimal size range was 50-60 nm

In this work, the dispersion behavior of particles in binary aluminum (Al)-copper (Cu) cast alloy was investigated with respect to Cu contents of 20 (hypoeutertic), 33 (eutectic) and 40 (hypereutectic) wt.%. In cases of hypo and hypereutectic compositions, SEM images revealed that the primary Al and phases were grown up at the beginning, respectively, and thereafter the eutectic phase was solidified. In addition, it was found that some of particles can be dispersed into the primary Al phase, but none of them are is observed inside the primary 6 phase. This different dispersion behavior of particles is probably due to the difference in the val- ues of specific gravity between particles and primary phases. At eutectic composition, particles were well dispersed in the matrix since there is few primary phases acting as an impediment site for particle dispersion during solidification. Based on the experimental results, it is concluded that particles are mostly dispersed into the eutectic phase in binary Al-Cu alloy system.
