Leiomyoma is a Benign tumor that develops in smooth muscles and is known to occur more in women in age between 40s and 50s. The most common site of leiomyoma is uterine (95 %). It occurred in oral region is very rare about 0.065 % and usually developed in upper and lower lips, palatal site, buccal site and tongues. The prognosis of leiomyoma is very positive. The recurrence rate is extremely low to 2 % below. In present study, we report a 78 year old female with a lesion located in temporomandibular joint cavity which was suspected as a malignant tumor. Additionally, this paper reports contains a literature review of oral leiomyoma. Rare location with painless leiomyoma of present case will be considered to be caution.

The case of an intraosseous leiomyoma in a 22-year-old man is presented. The tumor was incidentally discovered during dental radiographic examination for endodontic treatment of mandibular first molar. Radiographic examination revealed a well-defined unilocular radiolucency between the roots of mandibular left canine-first premolar, measuring approximately 1.9 x 1.8 cm and perforation of the buccal cortical plate. Histological and immunohistochemical examination was diagnostic of intraosseous solid leiomyoma. Here, we report a rare case of leiomyoma of the mandible, together with conventional histopathologic and immunohistochemical findings.

We would like to report a case of leiomyoma of the ovaries in a dog. Leiomyoma is commonly seen in the vagina in dogs. However, it is a very rare neoplasm in the ovaries. As there have only been a few reported cases, this report provides valuable information on veterinary medicine and pathology. Masses found in the ovaries need to be differentiated from other ovarian tumors. Therefore, we describe the gross, histopathological, and immunohistochemical features of a case of ovarian leiomyoma in a 10-year-old female Yorkshire Terrier dog. The mass on the right of the uterus was found accidentally by pelvic ultrasonography. Laparatomy revealed a large multi-nodulated ovarian mass. Grossly, cut surfaces of the mass showed multiple firm whitish nodules in the cortex and bloody loose connective tissue in the medulla. Histopathologically, the cortex of the mass was composed of spindle cells forming interlacing fascicles. The cells had elongated, blunt-ended nuclei and eosinophilic cytoplasm as detected by hematoxylin and eosin staining. Immunohistochemical stained sections were immunoreactive for α-smooth muscle actin and desmin but negative for vimentin and S-100. Therefore, differential diagnosis confirmed leiomyoma based on morphology and positive staining for α-smooth muscle actin and desmin.

A three-year-old Russian Blue female cat was presented for long-standing infertility and recent development of male behavior. From one to three years of age, the cat had been bred, however, pregnancy never resulted. Abnormal enlargement of the uterus and ovaries was observed by abdominal sonography and radiography. An ovariohystectomy was performed. In the uterus, adenocaricnoma lesions were found and characterized microscopically by replacement of the endometrium with a population of large polyhedral cells with a tubulopapillary or nested arrangement and a supporting fibrous stroma with minimal vascularization. In addition, the pedunculated mass was diagnosed as leiomyoma, which was continuous with the myometrium, composed of closely packed sheets of spindle cells embedded in vascularized stroma, and covered with a discontinuous endometrial epithelium. The ovarian neoplasm was diagnosed as an ovarian interstitial cell tumor. Based on the histopathological characteristics, this case was diagnosed as a simultaneous occurrence of an ovarian interstitial-cell tumor and uterine adenocarcinoma and leiomyoma in a female cat. To the best of our knowledge, this report represents a rare case of multiple tumors in the genital organs of a cat.

Leiomyomas are rare, benign tumors that may arise from smooth muscle cells anywhere along the genitourinary tract. Leiomyomas are known to be the commonest neoplasm arising from the uterus, but leiomyoma originating from the scrotum is a rare entity. These tumors originate from subcutaneous tissue or tunica dartos and can be solitary or multiple. The authors report the case of a 53-year old man who presented with a slowly growing, painless, firm, mobile, 3-cm lump in the left side scrotum. The lesion was completely excised, and subsequent pathological examination revealed distinguishing features of leiomyoma. No recurrence occurred over the 12 months following excision.
