Sweet persimmons are valuable commodity in the export market. However, present of insect pest such as Asiacornococcus kaki can cause limit to many export markets. In this study, ethyl formate(EF), as alternative to methyl bromide(MB), was used in scale-up commercial trial(20ft reefer). Application of 50 g/m3 of EF for 6 hours at 5 ℃ showed proven efficacy against all developmental stages of A. kaki without LLDPE-packaging fruits and no phytotoxic damage on sweet persimmons. This study demonstrated that EF fumigation can be effectively control to target A. kaki before packaging with LLDPE-film of fruits.
The idea of phytosanitation has continuously received attentions since 1950s, as the volume of international trade began to rise. All aspects of phytosanitation, including regulatory framework as well as the supporting technologies and sciences, have developed intercorrelatedly to the exponential growth of the trade, for the protection of an importing country’s agriculture, landscape, and industries from potential damages by invasive non-native pests. Phytosanitary regulatory framework has chiefly been developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), which is the foundation of the standardized phytosanitary measures across the borders, as delineating roles/responsibilities of every stakeholder on a trade continuum. Changes and modifications on the framework will be continuously required to cope with the on-going challenges by invasive non-native pests. Its role is no longer limited to plant protection but has blended into other frameworks, such as biosecurity and food safety.
방사선조사기술은 기존의 물리·화학적인 식물검역 방법의 대안 중의 하나로 여겨진다. 본 연구는 식물검역의 목적으로 1000 Gy 이하의 감마선 조사가 국내 주요 수출 농산물인 딸기의 이화학적, 관능적 품질 특성 및 유기성분 함량에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것이었다. 감마선 조사는 딸기의 부패율과 중량손실률을 감소시켰으며, pH, 산도, 수분활성도, 가용성 고형분 함량 변화에는 영향을 미치지 않았다. 경도의 경우에도 조사 직후 유의적인 감소는 있었으나, 저장기간에 경과함에 따라 상쇄되었으며, 주요 페놀산 및 플라보노이드 함량 변화에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 반면, 감마선 조사는 딸기의 안토시아닌 생합성을 억제시켜 과일의 색도 변화를 지연시켰으며, 저장 9일째 비조사구보다 높은 관능적 선호도를 부여하였다. 결론적으로 딸기에 대한 1000 Gy 이하의 감마선 조사는 비조사구 대비 유익한 품질상승효과를 나타내는 것으로 관찰되었다.
Irradiation at doses less than 1 kGy is an effective phytosanitary measure with minimal adverse effects on the quality of most fresh produce. There are internationally recognized guidelines for the use of irradiation as a phytosanitary measure and for the conduct of trade in irradiated fresh produce. A generic dose of 150 Gy is internationally recognized as sufficient to ensure the sterility or inability to reproduce of all fruit flies of the family Tephritidae on all hosts. Irradiation offers a cost-competitive, non-chemical alternative to several other phytosanitary measures and can be used to decrease dependence on fumigation with methyl bromide. In the last decade trade in irradiated fresh produce has increased steadily with over 20,000 tonnes traded in 2015. The US and New Zealand are the main importing countries and main exporting countries are Mexico, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand and India. Many different irradiated fruits are traded with guava, mango, sweet potato and dragon fruit pre-dominant. Several issues present barriers to the wider adoption of phytosanitary irradiation including the 1 kGy limit, labeling requirement, the limited number of country approvals, and restrictions on the use of modified atmosphere. The development of small-scale cabinet style x-ray machines could provide farmers and packinghouses with in-house treatment capability, and accelerate adoption of the technology.
The effects of cold storage temperature and exposure duration on immature stages of spotted-wing drosophila (SWD) Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) on ‘Campbell Early’ grapes were examined to establish a phytosanitary control method. The immature stages (eggs, larvae and pupae) of SWD were all dead after a 6-day cold treatment at 1°C and 8-day cold treatment at 1.5 and 2°C. Small-scale tests using pupae, which were the most-cold tolerant stage, confirmed the validity of the selected temperature and exposure durations. Conversely, the 8- and 10-day at 1°C treatments showed 100% mortality, suggesting that these treatments can guarantee quarantine security against infestations of SWD on exported ‘Campbell Early’ grapes.
This study was done to evaluate the efficacy of Vapormate (ethyl formate 16.7 % + CO2) as an methyl bromide-alternative fumigant. Some insect pests and mites were found under calyx of sweet persimmon fruits, including grape-myrtle scale, two-spotted spider mite, Amblyseius eharai. Vapormate fumigation was equally toxic to miticide- susceptible and -resistant T. urticae showing 100 % mortality at higher concentration than 146.7 and 211.0 mg/L, respectively. In persimmon-filled desiccator, summer and overwintering types of T. urticae showed 100 % mortality at higher concentration than 163.7 and 265.8 mg/L, respectively. Sweet persimmon damage from vapormate fumigation was not shown by the days after treatment. Tolerance of each live stage of grape-myrtle scale was in descending order: egg < nymph < adult. EF 141.5 mg h L-1 for 6 h at 5 ℃ killed 100 % of the larvae of D. punctiferalis.
The final scaled-up fumigation confirmed the efficacy of EF to target pests and non-phytotoxicity on persimmons. In conclusion, EF may become a MB alternative fumigant for sweet persimmon, and the LC99 values of EF may be used to practical applications to all kinds of insects and mites on harvested sweet persimmon.
수출용 목재 포장재의 주요 재료로 사용하는 소나무의 경우 소나무의 에이즈라고 불리는 재선충이 과거 수출포장용 목재 포장재를 통하여 전세계적으로 확산되었다. 이로 인하여 전세계적으로 재선충이 확산되었고, 현재 한국에서도 소나무 재선충에 대한 크나큰 홍역을 앓고 있다. 이에 따라 수출용 목재 포장재에 의해 전파되는 재선충의 확산을 방지하기 위한 세계 각국의 노력의 결과로 2002년 로마에서 국제연합식량농업기구(Food and Agriculture Organization: FAO)는 수출용 목재포장재에 대한 국제식물검역조치표준인 ISPM No.15를 제정하여 재선충 방지를 위한 노력을 기울이고 있다. 그와 더불어 세계 각국은 수출용 화물의 목재포장을 통한 재선충의 전 세계적인 확산을 방지하기 위하여 목재포장재에 대한 국제식물검역조치표준인 ISPM No.15의 표준안을 근거로 자국내 수입용 목재포장재의 수입에 대한 위생검역규정의 제정 및 검역을 보다 강화하려는 움직임을 보이고 있다. 중국 역시 2001년 ISPM No. 15의 규정을 자국에도 적용하는 법규를 제정하여 현재 중국으로 수입하는 모든 목재포장재에 대해서 위생검역에 준하여 훈증 위생처리 등의 위생검역을 요구하고 있다. 그러나 세계 각국의 위생검역의 규정과 관련 절차에 대한 내용들이 상이하고, 훈증 및 위생검역처리절차 등을 표준화하는 과정에 있어서 각국의 위생검역에 대한 절차와 규정에 대한 복잡성으로 인하여 한국제품의 해외수출에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 또한 이들 위생검역 규정은 재선충의 전세계적 방지를 위한 본래의 목적을 벗어난 전략적 통상목적하에서 비관세장벽의 기능을 할 수도 있다.
